Chapter 152: Night of Destiny
"This time I am fully charged!" With that, he waved his hand defiantly.
"However, the old rule applies: you follow my orders." Looking at the excited Yuan Shou, Dutian couldn't help but dampen his spirits a bit. After all, if he didn't keep him in check, who knew what kind of nonsense this idiot would pull?
"Milktank!" After patting his chest, he suddenly asked with a puzzled expression, "By the way, Dutian, did you just smile?"
...
Ignoring the person behind him, he paid for the meal and dashed out after Lancer.
"Really, we just came out to visit a friend, so why did we run into a bunch of lunatics?" The Conqueror complained as he pulled on the reins with both hands.
"My Lord! Could you please stop complaining? And what about your barrier?" Waver swung his hand, summoning a sword made of light into his grasp, and then waved his hands continuously to deflect the viciously mana-infused bullets flying in from all directions.
"Hah! Do these guys even have the qualification to witness my unrivaled army? Even the Hassans of Assassin faced me head-on with the determination to die, but these cowards don't even dare to show their faces. They aren't even worthy of seeing my peerless army." The Conqueror explained in response to the complaints of Waver, who was both his Master and his subject. In other words, in his eyes, these fellows weren't even worthy of his respect.
"Ah, how troublesome! Why must you be so carefree, King of Conquerors?" After uttering a desperate scream of resignation, Waver began chanting something unfamiliar to the Conqueror.
Accompanied by a final high note resembling a song, the clouds in the sky were instantly torn apart, and a beam of light from above enveloped the two of them, completely isolating the magic bullets continuously shooting in from all directions.
"Oh ho! As expected of my subject! Is this the fruit of your labor over the past decade?" The Conqueror lowered the sword he had been holding in front of him, though to be safe, he still kept a grip on the reins. At his question, Waver wore a tired yet smiling expression and said, "It seems my efforts weren't in vain. Researching this barrier, which approaches the realm of Great Magecraft, was worth it."
"Of course! You are my subject, and naturally, I am proud of you." The Conqueror carelessly patted Waver's shoulder. Although Waver's face was pale from excessive mana consumption, a blush still crept across his cheeks at the King's praise. Being praised by the first person to acknowledge him was indeed a fine honor.
"Speaking of which, Saber and Caster are really slow. Weren't they supposed to go find that guy Lancer?" Looking at the rippling barrier, the Conqueror scratched his head helplessly.
"I don't know, but it looks like they've probably been intercepted too." As the creator of the barrier, Waver could sense its condition. Judging by the opponents' current firepower, it could probably hold out for about another five minutes, though he couldn't rule out the possibility of them increasing their firepower. In Waver's view, the two ambushers they encountered on their way were acting less like they wanted to fight and more like they were just trying to stall them.
"Hmph..." The Conqueror let out a disdainful snort, but once again grabbed the sword at his waist, intending to summon his army.
"Nine Lives Blades Works!"
With a loud roar, hundreds of stone arrows flew over the Conqueror's head, followed by a series of explosions, and the enemy's attack abruptly stopped.
"Yo, long time no see, Rider."
A voice unfamiliar to them entered their ears, and Waver looked in disbelief at the smiling man standing behind them.
"Indeed, it has been a long time, former Master of Saber."
"Sasa!" Looking at the man blocking her and Caster, Sakura called out to her Servant. Meanwhile, Kariya, standing behind the man, held a wooden box with a look of astonishment on his face.
"Rest assured, I'm not with those guys. I have no reason to follow that person's orders, at most I'll just hold back Caster so that guy doesn't accuse me of slacking off." The background-character-like man pulled out a notebook and waved his right hand. "You're Kariya, right? Go ahead. Saber's battlefield is straight ahead."
"Berserker? Oh well." Twirling his spear, Lancer looked at the man whose body was wreathed in black mist and said, "Since you are a hero, let us engage in a mortal combat!"
He had joined the Holy Grail War simply to clash in battle with heroes from various eras, and the enemy who now appeared before him possessed the Berserker class. Although his ideal opponent would have been Saber or Assassin, any battle would satisfy him.
"Roar!" His response was Berserker's feral howl. The soul-penetrating chill and darkness stirred even the heart of this hound of culann.
"King Arthur? Indeed, a worthy opponent."
While Saber and her Master were out buying ingredients, the surrounding crowd suddenly and bizarrely vanished one by one. At that moment, that fellow blocked their path home.
"Who goes there?!" One could tell from the other's words that he was by no means an ordinary passerby, but clearly the enemy Lancer had spoken of. She instantly donned her blue conceptual armor, her weapon veiled by the wind of the Invisible Air pointing straight ahead.
"Who? The one who will take your life!" The fake smile vanished instantly, replaced by a grin of ferocious cruelty as a violent aura surged upward. Though magnificent in scale, the aura was brimming with chilling malice, and his body was equipped with the Armored Gorgon once used by a madman who had long since perished.
"I should thank you all! As a reward, let me send you down below! Go reunite with your knights in the netherworld!" Uttering a death flag of epic proportions, this individual knew nothing about the previous events. Had he known that the Knights of the Round Table had once been summoned, he surely wouldn't have been so arrogant.
