“How boring!”

Lancer lay sprawled across the table in the family restaurant like an idiot, while Weber, seated calmly beside him, ate his meal with an expression that plainly said, “I don’t know this man.”

“I really do wonder how someone like you ever became a knight.”

By now, Weber had seen through Lancer’s true nature. If he had to compare him to an animal, it would be a cat—always looking for a sunny spot in which to sleep.

“Honestly…”

Lancer was just about to roll his head across the tabletop when a sudden surge of magical energy startled him.

“That direction…”

Weber noticed it as well, but when he turned back, the Lancer who had been acting cute a moment before had vanished without a trace.

“Wasn’t that guy supposed to be paying?”

Though grumbling, Weber rose with a smile.

“Miss! The bill, please!”

* * *

“Hey, hey! Are you sure there aren’t any bugs left?”

After dispelling his ability, the idiot leaned on his knees and questioned the unscrupulous mage beside him.

The mage calmly trimmed his nails, then casually glanced at him.

“How long did it take?”

For some reason, the question slipped out of his mouth before he could stop himself.

“About thirty seconds.”

“What? Then why did you make me—”

He was just about to take revenge when he suddenly sensed something wrong. Though his abilities were those of a commander, a commander’s instinct for danger was terrifying in its own right. Without hesitation, he shoved the other man aside.

Whoosh!

The sound of a sharp object tearing through the air was followed by an explosion as it struck the ground.

“Who’s there?”

According to the information they had gathered, everyone’s identity was now known except for the Matou family’s Caster. The attack just now should have come from Archer, but Archer was clearly supposed to be at the castle. That left only one possibility: Assassin.

“Come out, Assassin! As the subordinate of the King of Knights, do you really intend to launch a sneak attack?”

Dutian, who had been shoved aside by the idiot, stood up as well. Clearly, he was trying to provoke their opponent into revealing himself—but reality was not so simple.

The Noble Phantasm wrapped in lightning slowly dissolved into spirit particles and disappeared. Once more, an eerie silence descended around the Matou residence.

“Damn it!”

The attack had clearly been aimed at both of them. Although Dutian’s abilities were primarily those of a commander, his physical body was still countless times stronger than the man beside him. If Dutian had taken the hit, he might have been left half-crippled. If the other man had taken it, he would almost certainly have died.

The thought caused his anger to flare. He knew perfectly well that everyone treated him like an idiot, ordering him around and using him for their own purposes. But, having feared loneliness since childhood, he could only keep pretending not to notice, hoping that someone would take him in and never abandon him.

Until that day…

He had unleashed his full firepower just now, so his ability could not be used again for the moment. But every commander kept a means of retreat in reserve.

Dutian abruptly drew the enormous sword strapped to his back. The instant it came free, it expelled a burst of steam, followed by the sound of turning gears. The greatsword slowly shrank, while a half-suit of armor formed over his body, shielding his vital points. In his right hand appeared a slender blade bristling with a mechanical, futuristic design.

“Never underestimate the Führer, damn you! The Führer’s Roar!”

The greatsword suddenly opened, transforming into something resembling a tuning fork. A moment later, inaudible ultrasonic waves spread in every direction.

“Can’t you give the sonar on your command baton a less ridiculous name?”

Dutian kicked the idiot, who was still trying to act cute. This time, however, the other man said nothing. He merely kept his eyes closed, as though searching for something.

“The Führer’s Fury!”

At his cry, a strange red point suddenly appeared in the sky.

Then—

Boom!

An explosion even more violent than the first tore through the air.

“What are you trying to do, firing a satellite cannon at random?”

If his earlier remark had merely been sarcasm, this time he truly had a headache. The absolute weapon required three days to recharge after being fired at full power in any world. He had never imagined that the fool would use such a final trump card so casually.

“Relax. I limited the attack radius to a circle one meter across, so it only needs half a day to recharge. But the most important thing now is that fellow.”

“You mean he’s still alive?”

Dutian leaped in surprise and drew a short wand from his sleeve.

“I don’t know!”

The shout was deafening. He then sat down on the ground, and the mechanical armor covering his body shifted once more, gathering in his hands and transforming back into the greatsword.

“In theory, once locked on by the sonar, there’s no way to evade the satellite cannon. But my instincts tell me he isn’t going to die that easily.”

Sitting on the ground, he gasped for breath.

Crack…

The ground, vitrified by the previous attack, suddenly gave off the sound of something breaking.

“That guy actually endured it?”

Dutian knew exactly how powerful that satellite cannon was. If struck directly, even a Reality Marble would be on the verge of collapse. This was only a miniature version, but its destructive force at the point of impact should have remained unchanged. As far as they were concerned, no human being could possibly withstand it.

“Thanks.”

Lancer looked at the wreckage in his hand as he spoke.

The battle cloak that had followed him since the age of King Arthur had once again protected him from harm. Though it had been shattered after holding out for only ten seconds against that attack, it had still ensured that he suffered no serious injuries.

“Every Heroic Spirit possesses a Noble Phantasm. As people from another world, did you really not know that?”

Lancer had essentially confirmed their identities. The Führer’s Fury was certainly not something born of this world.

“People from another world? Looks like we’re fellow travelers.”

Dutian slowly moved the exhausted idiot behind him, then began speaking with the man before him.

“Fellow travelers? I suppose you could call us that. But I should be your senior. And I don’t think we belong to the same faction.”

Lancer silently drew Light Concealment and Shadow Bearing. This was no time for bravado. If that obviously weakened man had been capable of launching an attack that threatened Lancer’s life, then the other one was surely no less dangerous.

The fact that Lancer had chosen these two weapons instead of Bloodlust showed how seriously he was taking the situation.

“Your senior? According to the others’ information, you must have appeared during the previous Holy Grail War.”

Dutian was not speaking without basis. Lancer and Weber were clearly familiar with each other, which served as proof enough.

“Looks like quite a few people have come this time.”

Lancer remained calm. At least, his opponents did not appear to harbor much hostility toward Sakura. If they had unleashed another attack like the one before, even a Heroic Spirit might not have been able to withstand it. He had only managed to defend himself in time because of the ring Lotus had given him.

“Seven. There are seven of us in total. Besides the two of us, there are five others. But I think you’ve probably already met one of them.”

“Met him? Could it be…”

“That’s right. The scumbag who was rescued that night. Tch! Those two meddlesome fools. I’d much rather have watched that trash get killed.”

The man sitting on the ground cut in before Lancer could finish speaking.
