Chapter 077: Beauty Worthy of the Top Ten
Lunar Human Base.
It was around 3 a.m. on the 23rd day after the game had begun. More than two hours had passed since the Huang Feng incident. Although the number of lunar humans paying attention to Huang Feng had dropped significantly, there were still many who continued to follow him. Most were from Huaxia, but there were also people from other countries.
At this moment, Huang Feng was meeting Qin Qing for the first time.
Because they were constantly tracking Huang Feng, another chosen one from Huaxia, Qin Qing, had also entered their field of attention. In fact, within the lunar base, predominantly populated by Huaxia nationals, Qin Qing had already been on the radar of a select few for quite some time. The reason was simple: her beauty. Among all the female chosen, she was easily ranked among the top ten.
“I used to think she was just a pretty face, that she wouldn’t last long in this deadly game of hunting. Who could’ve imagined she’d team up with Huang Feng? Her luck is truly extraordinary,” sighed a middle-aged man, his eyes fixed on the screen displaying Qin Qing.
Because he admired her looks, he had followed Qin Qing’s journey from the beginning. He had even been thrilled the first time she took a shower on camera, only to have his hopes dashed by a sudden censor bar.
“She may be lucky, but it also takes brains and guts,” retorted another middle-aged man beside him. “In JL Province, she was one of several chosen who witnessed hundreds of missiles launched at night. I refuse to believe she was the only one to figure out what was happening—yet she alone dared to seek refuge directly. That’s brains and guts!”
He had also followed Qin Qing closely, much like he used to spend lavishly chasing celebrities back on Earth. Unfortunately, here there was no way to send gifts or interact with the contestants; otherwise, he would’ve tried to connect with her long ago.
“True, true. Such a beauty—what a pity she’s about to fall into Huang Feng’s hands,” the first man nodded repeatedly, clearly a friend of the second, but spoke with a tone of regret.
“What’s the big deal? For all we know, we might get to see a live broadcast of their passionate battle,” the second man grinned lewdly, an idea flashing across his mind.
“Yeah, but damn that god! Every time there’s a crucial scene, it gets censored. It ruins the experience,” the first man grumbled, wearing the same lecherous smile.
Their conversation, clearly hitting a sore spot, devolved into a string of colorful curses, directed with great familiarity at the god who granted lunar humans the ability to observe the chosen at will. The viewing interface allowed users to change angles, zoom in, and use many features, but one thing frustrated nearly everyone: all private moments of the contestants were censored.
This privacy policy wasn’t limited to female contestants; it applied equally to the males. As a result, complaints about these restrictions were common across all bases and among all nationalities.
Initially, the complaints were loudest. Many had hoped that their protests would reach the god and lead to the lifting of these restrictions, but as days passed with no response, the outcry faded. Still, whenever an exciting scene was spoiled by a sudden blur, angry viewers would erupt in curses all over again.
Originally, only a handful of lunar humans who appreciated beautiful women followed Qin Qing. But after her direct interaction with Huang Feng, she gradually attracted the attention of the majority.
Many national leaders took note of Qin Qing’s appearance and immediately pulled up her records for careful study.
Five hours later.
In one of the many lunar bases.
In the base’s main hall, people of all skin tones could be seen.
“Tch, I really doubt whether this Huang Feng is a real man. A beauty practically throws herself at him and he shows no interest,” sneered a burly blond man, his eyes filled with disdain as he watched Huang Feng and Qin Qing on the screen.
“Exactly! Look at our own chosen—many of them were already sleeping together just days after meeting. That’s what I call genuine! These Huaxia people are just putting on a show.”
“Honestly, that woman’s got it all—looks, figure, first-class. Maybe Huang Feng’s just not into women?”
“Could be. I should report that possibility up the chain.”
“That Qin Qing, though, doesn’t hesitate to kill. She’s no ordinary person.”
For a while, the group of blond men around him all chimed in, their words dripping with contempt for Huang Feng. This animosity stemmed from Huang Feng’s actions half a day prior, which had earned the resentment of many non-Huaxia viewers. Though they couldn’t harm him directly, venting together was the next best thing.
Meanwhile, in an inconspicuous lunar base inhabited solely by Huaxia nationals, a spacious, high-tech conference room was occupied by dozens of people seated around a large table. Some wore full military dress, medals gleaming on their chests; others were in plain but imposing suits, marking them as men of long-standing authority. Most were over fifty, many with hair already silvered by age.
At the front of the room, a large display showed two portraits: Huang Feng and Qin Qing.
Standing at the lectern on the right was a square-faced, solemn military officer—Major General Zhu Yinglong. This meeting’s main topic was the discussion of Qin Qing as one of the chosen.
“Please begin by giving us a profile of Qin Qing,” said the elder seated at the center, once everyone was assembled.
“Yes, sir,” Zhu Yinglong replied.
He switched the screen to the next slide, showing a candid photo of Qin Qing alongside a brief biography.
“Qin Qing, age twenty, from BS City, JL Province. She was a sophomore in the acting department at JL Provincial Academy of Arts, and also an actress contracted with Tianwang Media Ltd. in JL. Her father, Qin Huamian, and mother, Ding Xiangling, are both actors.”
“Both parents are moderately well-known actors in the three-province area. Coupled with her own pure and attractive appearance, she was a child star from a young age, often taking on small roles or variety show appearances. She has performed in…”
“In the days before the god erased humanity, she was apparently involved in a homicide case related to the Wang family of the Northeast. After the game began, she was assigned chosen number 685.”
“It seems, possibly due to her mental state, she first used her full recovery opportunity, then immediately applied her first enhancement to her mental attributes. We have little information on her actions after the game started, as her potential ranking was initially outside our top 500. After consulting those who followed her, we learned she maintained regular exercise but spent most of her time enjoying life in solitude.”
“Ten days after the game began, she acquired a hunting compound bow while out gathering supplies. From then until she joined Huang Feng, she focused on practicing archery.”
“Currently, having allied with Huang Feng and obtained three fragments of the Basic Guidance Technique, her potential has soared—she’s now among our top 200 and is one of our key individuals for future observation.”
Zhu Yinglong gave a thorough account of Qin Qing’s background, including her acting credits and roles, followed by a brief summary of her activities from the god’s erasure of humanity to her alliance with Huang Feng. He concluded by highlighting her recent leap in potential and her new status as an individual of interest.
“In summary, for now, Qin Qing’s appearance has had a positive influence on Huang Feng, and allowed him easy access to the Mental Chapter of the Basic Guidance Technique,” commented an elder once Zhu Yinglong finished.
“Elder Xu is correct. Although Huang Feng lost ten percent of his basic attributes due to the god’s penalty, he acquired the Mental Chapter effortlessly, which shows he’s quite lucky,” another elder agreed.
“However,” he added, “having such a beautiful and alluring woman constantly at his side—might this not affect his resolve? History warns us of the dangers of feminine wiles. There’s always the risk he could fall prey to her charms.”
The room erupted in discussion.
Truthfully, they all knew that, as observers unable to intervene with the chosen, their debates changed nothing and offered no real help to those on Earth. Yet the discussions were necessary, for only by understanding the personalities and temperaments of the chosen could they be fully prepared to interact with them in the future—should they ever survive the game and emerge victorious.
Besides, what else was there to do on the moon? Apart from gathering to discuss the chosen and monitoring their every move, there was little else to fill the time.
As the god had said: their role was to be good spectators.
