Chapter 021: The Effects of Comprehensive Restoration Treatment
“So this is what comprehensive restoration therapy feels like? Truly miraculous.”
Li Gang examined every inch of his body and found not a single trace of injury. Even the calluses on his palms from years of training and the scars left by minor wounds had vanished without a trace.
Moreover, he noticed his eyesight had suddenly improved. The deterioration caused by years of staring at his phone and playing games was completely gone—everything was crystal clear, near or far. He tested each eye separately and found no difference; both saw equally well.
Only now did Li Gang realize that comprehensive restoration therapy didn’t merely heal injuries—it also restored any damage that was previously impossible or difficult to recover from, such as his impaired vision.
Yet that wasn’t all; he sensed that the therapy’s effects weren’t limited to just these obvious improvements.
A thought struck him, and he quickly pulled up his personal stats panel for review.
All four basic attributes had changed, rising noticeably. His stamina had increased by eleven points to reach 235, strength by eight points to reach 110, mental focus by nine points to reach 90, and speed by eight points to reach 90.
His combat power had also risen by six points, now at 108.
Just as he was rejoicing over these changes, a voice from Little White sounded in his mind, alerting him that a stranger had entered his fifty-kilometer radius.
He quickly activated the tracking function. A blue light dot appeared on the lower right corner of the map.
Before he could examine it closely, Little White’s voice sounded again—twice in quick succession.
Scanning the rest of the map, he found two more blue light dots at opposite locations.
The three blue dots were converging, forming a surrounding pattern as they moved towards him. Clearly, this was a coordinated team. After more than twenty days since the game began, people were finally banding together to hunt solo prey.
“This is serious trouble—I’ve been targeted by a team,” Li Gang immediately grasped the gravity of the situation.
He calmed down swiftly; after all, he was no longer the same person as when the game had just started.
Ten minutes later.
Li Gang exited the fitness center, donned all the gear he had collected and could use—tactical gloves, helmet, bulletproof vest, and carried four loaded pistols and two knives.
His tactical backpack contained emergency food and water, along with seven or eight magazines and several boxes of bullets.
The pack wasn’t heavy, given the relatively few items, and with his current stamina, it didn’t hinder prolonged movement.
He was fully armed, but even so, he used up all his enhancement opportunities.
During this period, he spent his remaining five enhancement chances: one on strength, one on speed, and the last three on stamina.
Now, his stats panel displayed: stamina 313, strength 121, mental focus 90, speed 99, combat power 128.
Li Gang now surpassed the average adult male in all attributes—strength, speed, mental focus, and especially stamina, which should be enough for him to engage the enemy in a wilderness struggle for several days.
His main method of attack was with pistols, so he used one enhancement on speed to improve his aim. With three adversaries, and the likelihood of close combat, he spent another enhancement on strength.
Though nervous and afraid, he didn’t plan to run this time. Routine training was no longer much help for him.
If nobody sought him out, he might have kept hiding alone for a while longer. Stamina training had diminishing returns, but there was still some effect, especially for speed and strength, which could still improve.
But since someone had come looking for him, after careful consideration, he decided to face them head-on. Sooner or later, this day would come.
Most importantly, with three enemies closing in from separate directions, escaping would likely mean running into at least one of them.
Li Gang believed that, having just used his enhancements, his basic stats were absolutely not weak compared to ordinary contestants.
Though anxious, he calmed himself with several deep breaths, determination flickering in his eyes. He opened the smart bracelet’s tracking feature, confirmed the positions of the three enemies, and chose the mountain peak with dense woods. He mounted his motorcycle and headed toward that direction.
Since the three had chosen to encircle him for fear he’d escape, this was his opportunity—either to break through or deal with one first.
Li Gang decided to confront one first; breaking through would only have all three chasing him, and if he encountered another team while fleeing, things would turn dire.
These days, besides training hard, Li Gang occasionally checked the tracking map and noticed many light dots grouped in threes or fours. When he saw this, he knew people were forming teams.
Teaming up had its advantages and drawbacks. Li Gang always felt indifferent about it; he preferred to act alone.
Because you couldn’t entrust your back to others—trusting a team carried more risks than rewards.
In this hunting game, everyone was a hunter—who could truly trust anyone else?
The county of WF, with its complicated terrain and winding mountain roads,
Li Gang had no intention of leaving for now, so he set out lightly equipped. If the adversaries weren’t too troublesome, he even thought of dealing with the three and then returning.
In fact, he was quite eager for the mysterious gift mentioned in Rule Five.
He didn’t want to hunt others, but since they’d come for him, that was a different matter.
His plan was good, but Li Gang didn’t realize that sometimes there was a vast difference between plans and reality.
More than ten minutes later.
Li Gang was riding his motorcycle along the mountain road, monitoring the map in real time. He saw that his approach had been noticed—at least the light dot he was nearing had stopped moving.
He had thought the enemy might retreat and keep their distance, waiting for the other two to join, but they didn’t.
The other two in different directions had clearly sped up, though they were still some distance away.
“It seems they’re confident in their strength. Did I just happen to run into the strongest member of their team?” Li Gang muttered, his expression grave.
“In that case, let me see what you’re made of. If I can’t win, I’ll just rely on the complex terrain and my enhanced stamina to escape.”
Half an hour later.
Li Gang, now about four or five kilometers in a straight line from his target, found a concealed spot and hid his motorcycle.
He didn’t plan to approach directly by vehicle, but to sneak through the woods.
Though this method was futile with everyone having smart bracelets—
No matter which direction he approached from, he couldn’t hide it.
Everyone’s location refreshed every minute on the map.
The only thing he could leverage was that one-minute interval: even if you knew which direction someone was coming from, you couldn’t pinpoint their exact position.
Li Gang couldn’t; neither could his adversary.
As he crested a hill and drew closer, always watching the map, Li Gang noticed the stationary dot had finally begun to move.
