Peng Min cried in Huang Yu’s arms for more than ten minutes before gradually calming down.

“Are you feeling better?” Huang Yu asked gently as he noticed the sobs fading and even the sniffles weakening.

“Mm, Sister Li Jia said that crying it out helps a lot; it’s the things bottled up inside that are the hardest to bear.” Her eyes were red and swollen from crying, and a faint blush colored her cheeks as she recalled being held in Huang Yu’s arms. She didn’t dare to look at him and whispered softly.

But just as Peng Min’s thoughts drifted, a sudden wave of discomfort washed over her body, accompanied by a slowly awakening craving.

She knew this feeling all too well—it was the onset of her drug withdrawal.

“Why now, of all times?” The unease intensified within her.

The craving was like a breached dam: at first, just a small crack, but within seconds, the dam would burst, unleashing an unstoppable flood.

Her body began to tremble involuntarily.

“What’s wrong?” Huang Yu quickly noticed her distress and asked with concern.

“My withdrawal symptoms are hitting me. Please don’t follow me.”

With those words, Peng Min dashed into Li Jia’s bedroom, closing and locking the door behind her firmly.

Clearly, she did not want Huang Yu to see her in the throes of addiction.

Witnessing this, Huang Yu felt a knot tighten in his heart. More than ever, he resolved not only to avenge Li Jia but also to dismantle the drug trafficking syndicate entrenched in PE City.

But first, there was one matter he had to attend to: the arrangements for Li Jia’s family.

According to the will Li Jia had left him, she wished for cremation, with her ashes scattered into the Lancang River. Her parents wished the same, so that the family could journey together even in death.

That afternoon, at the PE City Funeral Home.

Huang Yu paid several times the usual rate and swiftly completed the funeral arrangements for Li Jia’s family.

Now, he and Peng Min emerged from the funeral home, placing three urns into an SUV, ready to fulfill Li Jia’s final wishes at the Lancang River.

At dusk, by the riverbank.

“Rest in peace, Jia,” Huang Yu murmured, scattering Li Jia’s ashes into the flowing waters until not a speck remained.

He stared blankly as the ashes vanished downstream, feeling an emptiness settle deep within.

As for the ashes of Li Jia’s parents, he poured them directly into the river without scattering them grain by grain.

“Let’s go. I’ll take you back to KM City.” Huang Yu turned to Peng Min.

“I don’t want to go back yet. I want to stay with you, to watch how you avenge Sister Li Jia. Besides, I know the people there well. I can help you find your way when it matters most.” Peng Min shook her head firmly.

“What you’re doing is dangerous.” Huang Yu cautioned.

“I’m not afraid of danger. I just fear dying without seeing those people get what they deserve,” Peng Min said coldly, locking eyes with him.

After several attempts to persuade her, Huang Yu gave in and allowed her to come along.

One last glance at the swirling Lancang River, then he drove off with Peng Min.

The SUV was en route back to PE City.

“Peng Min, how much of your drug supply do you have left? How long can it last?” Huang Yu asked as he drove.

“Between what I have and the concentrated stuff I got from Li Jia’s parents, it should last me about two months.” Peng Min was a little surprised by his question but answered honestly after a moment’s thought.

“If it’s not enough, I can give you money to buy more. Tell me whatever you need. Don’t misunderstand me—I have no other intentions, no contempt, and no hidden agenda. Li Jia told me you helped her; I want to help you as much as I can.” Huang Yu explained carefully, fearing she might misinterpret his words.

Peng Min listened, her expression unreadable—neither clearly happy nor sad.

She remained silent, turning her gaze away to look out the window into the dark forest beyond, lost in thought.

An awkward silence filled the car.

“Sorry if I said anything wrong just now. I apologize,” Huang Yu finally broke the silence.

He could tell her silence was a quiet way to express displeasure.

“You really are a good man, Huang Yu. No wonder Sister Li Jia liked you so much and held you in her heart. When she spoke of you, I could feel genuine happiness radiating from her,” Peng Min said suddenly, turning to look at him.

Huang Yu was momentarily caught off guard.

“Thanks for your kindness. If I need anything, I’ll ask you,” Peng Min added.

This time Huang Yu was at a loss for words and simply focused on driving, his mind on the tasks ahead.

Peng Min kept glancing at him, then smiled slightly as her eyes flickered.

Over an hour later.

In a high-end residential complex in downtown PE City, Building 4, 10th floor, Apartment 104.

Huang Yu pressed the doorbell.

Soon, a middle-aged woman opened the door and led Huang Yu and Peng Min inside.

The apartment was simply but elegantly decorated, with three bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom.

“Aunt Yang, have you bought all the daily necessities?” Huang Yu asked as soon as they entered.

“As soon as I got your call, Young Master, I bought everything and cleaned the entire apartment inside and out.” Aunt Yang replied from behind.

“Good, then there’s nothing more for you here. You should go rest early.” Huang Yu nodded approvingly.

“If you need anything, just call me anytime,” Aunt Yang added.

“I understand,” Huang Yu responded.

Before leaving, Aunt Yang glanced curiously at Peng Min but asked no questions, closing the door behind her.

In the elevator.

“The Young Master is spending the night with a woman and apparently plans to live with her for some time. Should we inform the Master and Madam? No, better not. The Young Master might be unhappy to hear. Besides, that girl isn’t very pretty; I guess he’s just having a fling. I never thought the Young Master would do such a thing, but then again, he’s a man,” Aunt Yang mused silently.

Inside Apartment 104.

Huang Yu showed Peng Min the kitchen and bathroom.

The fridge was stocked with various drinks and food, and the bathroom was equipped with brand-new toiletries for two—toothbrushes, towels, and so forth.

“You’ll stay in this room for now. I’ll be in the room next door for the time being. Everything in this room is yours to use freely. If you need anything else, just tell me and I’ll have it arranged,” Huang Yu said, leading Peng Min to her prepared room.

Peng Min stepped inside and gently stroked the soft bedding.

The texture told her it was high-quality, a rarity she never imagined she would experience in her lifetime.

Most importantly, she would be living with a handsome, charming man. The thought filled her with quiet anticipation—if something were to happen between them, that would be even better.

But these thoughts she kept to herself; she wouldn’t act on them.

Not just because she wasn’t sure if Huang Yu wanted her, but also because Li Jia was her friend—she wouldn’t betray that.

“All the essentials are here; I can’t think of anything missing right now. If I do, I’ll let you know. I won’t be polite about it,” Peng Min said with a smile as she set down her luggage.

She looked at the gentle, handsome man before her and quietly suppressed the affection growing in her heart.

In the living room.

Huang Yu checked his phone and saw no updates yet on the investigation he had asked his steward to conduct into the Shenshi Han Palace Nightclub.

From the bathroom came the soft sound of running water—Peng Min was showering.

“Brother Huang Yu, I forgot my change of clothes in the room. Could you bring them to me?” Peng Min’s voice called out as the water stopped.

Huang Yu walked to the door of her room and saw a small pile of clothes on the bed, topped with alluring lingerie.

Having no experience with women, he dared not look longer.

“Peng Min, I’ll stay in my room. I won’t come out until you’ve changed,” he said firmly, waiting for her to respond before quickly leaving.

Back in his own room, Huang Yu could not stop thinking about the lingerie, shaking his head to dispel the thoughts.

Yet his body betrayed him, listening intently for any sounds beyond the door.

Deep down, he longed for intimacy but had long been restrained by strict upbringing and the belief that true love requires focus and loyalty.

He trusted that his future wife would give him the kind of fulfillment all men envy.

Meanwhile, in the bathroom.

Peng Min’s cheeks flushed with warmth, water droplets sliding down her beautiful face. Hearing Huang Yu retreat to his room, her hopeful expression dimmed into disappointment.
