Chapter 104: Inquiry and Disclosure

Although Li Jia had told Huang Yu her exact address, and Huang Yu had more than once personally escorted her to the entrance of Beichen Residential Complex after they went out together, he had never once actually been inside her home. At that time, they had not yet formally confirmed their relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend. Moreover, Li Jia never took the initiative to invite him over, and as a young man, Huang Yu felt it improper to ask. Additionally, Li Jia’s family was very conservative; he did not want to appear in front of her parents and risk making a poor impression—it simply wouldn’t be appropriate.
Yet, who could have imagined that the first time he would enter Li Jia’s home, it would be to retrieve her lifeless body.
“Knock, knock, knock.”
Huang Yu knocked on the door and soon heard footsteps approaching the entrance. The footsteps were light—if not for his keen hearing, he might not have noticed. The person peered through the peephole to see who was knocking before opening the door.
This was Huang Yu’s first time meeting Peng Min, a fairly attractive young woman. The night before, during a video chat with Li Jia, Peng Min had seen Huang Yu from a certain angle, so this was her first time meeting him in person. Huang Yu noticed the redness around Peng Min’s eyes—it was clear she had been crying for a long time. Although he had not known her before, this stirred a subtle, positive feeling toward her.
“Brother Huang Yu, I didn’t expect you to arrive so early,” Peng Min said with a hint of surprise upon seeing him.
“Hello, Peng Min. Actually, I was coming back to PE City to find Li Jia today. When you called me, I was already on the way.” Huang Yu’s heart was heavy because of Li Jia’s situation. He forced a faint smile as he spoke to Peng Min.
The two did not linger at the door. Huang Yu entered Li Jia’s home, first casting a brief glance around the entrance area. Only one bedroom door was open; the other two were closed. He asked, “Is that Li Jia’s room?”
Peng Min nodded.
Without further words, Huang Yu walked steadily toward that room—not too fast, not too slow, but determined. He was a man of deep feeling, yet also remarkably rational. Since the tragedy had already occurred, nothing could change the past. Simply grieving would serve no purpose. The most important thing now was to accept reality, understand the full sequence of events, and find the culprit—to avenge Li Jia was the only just course.
Everything else, including his own sorrow, was insignificant compared to this.
Inside Li Jia’s bedroom, Huang Yu looked at her motionless form on the bed. She was still beautiful, except for the pallor of her face—completely devoid of life’s color—as if nothing had changed.
He reached out gently to touch her cheek. It was icy cold—never before had it felt so cold, without the slightest trace of warmth.
Peng Min followed quietly into the bedroom and stood not far away, silently watching the man sitting beside the bed.

Though the man did not shed tears or outwardly display much sorrow, his demeanor was calm. Only when he involuntarily touched Li Jia’s cheek could one see his hand tremble slightly.
Huang Yu’s gaze never left Li Jia. Peng Min’s eyes remained fixed on Huang Yu, not once wavering.
Several minutes passed.
“This is the will Li Jia specifically left for you,” Peng Min said, gently placing a thick envelope beside Huang Yu. “It’s sealed with glue, and the envelope is marked ‘To be opened by Huang Yu only.’”
Having said this, she slowly walked out of the room, softly closing the door behind her, leaving everything inside solely to Huang Yu.
He sat silently beside Li Jia, staring at her as if he could never get enough.
He remained like this for tens of minutes before finally shifting his gaze to the will resting nearby.
The cover bore the unmistakable handwriting of Li Jia, addressed ‘To be opened by Huang Yu only.’
The will was thick, containing everything she wished to say to him.
Huang Yu quietly broke the seal and found a stack of letters inside.
He looked at the thick pile with confusion, but as he unfolded and read each letter, his grief overwhelmed him, and tears silently streamed down his face.
These letters were not all written on the same day, nor were they simply a last will.
They chronicled their relationship from the moment they first met and became acquainted, through the natural progression into an official relationship.
Occasionally, when Li Jia wanted to say something to him but could not speak it aloud, she would write letters and keep them.
Each letter revealed Li Jia’s innermost thoughts.
Only the final letter was dated the early hours of today—the one she wrote before taking her own life.
Its contents mostly expressed her apologies to Huang Yu, asking for his forgiveness, and urging him not to give up on life even after her departure—that life must still go on.
The letter did not explain why she committed suicide. Instead, she made one last request: do not investigate the matter, never pursue it—otherwise, she could not rest in peace.
After reading this last letter, Huang Yu’s tears ceased. He silently returned all the letters to the envelope and tucked it close to himself.
“Jia, regarding your final request, forgive me, but I cannot agree. After I have avenged you, I will come below to ask for your forgiveness in person—if there truly is an underworld and reincarnation,” Huang Yu said calmly, looking back at her.
He stayed in the room a while longer before leaving to look in on Li Jia’s parents.
After lingering silently before them for some time, he sighed softly—without saying a word.
In the living room, Huang Yu looked at Peng Min and said slowly, “Peng Min, I need you to tell me everything you know about Li Jia.”
In the letters, Li Jia had mentioned Peng Min as a close friend who had helped her greatly and expressed hope that Peng Min could send Huang Yu back to KM City.
But before that, Huang Yu needed to understand the entire situation from Peng Min—he believed she must know the full story.
“Li Jia repeatedly emphasized in the will that I must keep everything secret, not to tell you anything, and that she hoped you would forget her and live your life well,” Peng Min said, sitting opposite Huang Yu.

“I just want to know the truth,” Huang Yu replied, unsurprised, clearly expecting such an answer. He spoke calmly.
“The truth? What good would knowing the truth do? It would only add to your troubles. It’s better not to know,” Peng Min said, her expression tinged with sadness and reluctance.
Huang Yu noticed this and pressed on, “Don’t you want to avenge Li Jia? I’ll be honest with you. Although Li Jia also urged me in her letter to let her go and live my own life, I absolutely will not allow those who hurt her to roam free.
“Peng Min, I’m begging you—tell me everything. If I can’t personally avenge Li Jia, there’s no way I can live a life that belongs to me. As for what you said about knowing the truth—no matter if it costs me my life, I have to try. Even if I can only take a small piece of flesh from the enemy, that will be enough.”
Peng Min closed her eyes, lost in thought.
Seeing this, Huang Yu refrained from interrupting, letting her think things through.
From the messages Huang Yu sent to Li Jia yesterday, and now seeing him in person, Peng Min knew his family background was undoubtedly wealthy and noble.
She, too, wished those who had hurt Li Jia would burn in hell.
So she wanted to place her bets on Huang Yu.
“Perhaps, Brother Huang Yu really does have the power to avenge Sister Li Jia,” Peng Min thought.
Slowly opening her eyes, her expression hardened, as if a decision had been made. Looking at Huang Yu, she said, “Brother Huang Yu, maybe you really can avenge Sister Li Jia. Then I’ll tell you everything I know.”
Peng Min began from how she met Li Jia.
In the living room, for a time, only Peng Min’s voice could be heard. Huang Yu listened quietly.
Though these events had only unfolded over the past two days, Peng Min recounted every detail without omission.
Huang Yu’s expression shifted from calm to shock, then to anger, before his eyes bloodshot as if about to weep tears of blood.
He could never have imagined that so much had happened to Li Jia in just two days—each event more despairing than the last.
Huang Yu found it unimaginable that Li Jia, having endured all this, could still smile and video call him without revealing a hint of distress.
His heart ached unbearably—as if torn apart.
Suppressing a roar, Huang Yu clenched his fists tightly and gritted his teeth.
After Peng Min finished recounting the past two days, she began telling Huang Yu about the Shengshi Han Palace nightclub, everything she had learned, and the high-ranking individuals she had seen there, describing their appearances briefly.
When she spoke of her own experiences, seemingly recalling something terrible, her narration abruptly stopped, and she broke down into tears.
Huang Yu felt deep pity for the girl before him. He quietly moved beside her and embraced her—not out of love or affection, but simply to offer her some warmth and comfort.
