Chapter 51: My Child?
It was past eleven at night, and Ye Fei was still awake, meticulously analyzing the recent string of events. Su Xue was not sharing his bed; with so many people staying at Shu Manyun’s villa, she was too embarrassed to do so.
Meanwhile, in another city near Deepsea, in a luxurious hotel room, another woman lay sleepless—she was Yi.
All evening, Yi had been absent-minded, her thoughts continually drifting to Ye Fei’s face, his body. Again and again, she found herself recalling the two of them, naked and entwined, the stain of blood on the sheets. Whenever she closed her eyes, scenes of their intimacy would reappear before her.
Her mind also echoed with thoughts of the child, a constant reminder she could not forget.
Strangely, Yi did not feel any resentment towards Ye Fei. She knew that Ye Fei had been drugged and asleep, and that everything that happened between them was initiated by her. In truth, it was she who had forced herself on him.
Because of this, not only did Yi not blame Ye Fei, but instead she felt a strange curiosity towards him. It was not yet affection or love—she simply wanted to understand this man.
Yi unlocked her phone, where Ye Fei’s number was stored. She’d memorized it from Ye Fei’s file after returning that day. At the banquet, when Zhang Linsheng—the wealthiest man in Deepsea—had conversed warmly with Ye Fei for so long, many had noticed. Everyone was curious about Ye Fei’s identity and eager to befriend him or, by extension, curry favor with Zhang Linsheng. Some had specifically looked up Ye Fei’s information, including Sister Hong.
His phone number was listed, so Yi had made a note of it.
She stared at Ye Fei’s number, opening and closing the contact, again and again, her feelings in a turmoil.
Her mind replayed that night as her hand gently caressed her abdomen, a strange sensation spreading through her.
After dozens of attempts, Yi still could not bring herself to call Ye Fei. Suddenly, she felt a pang of hunger and left her room to find something to eat.
Passing by Sister Hong’s room, she heard voices inside. Curiosity drew her closer to listen, and her face turned ashen.
“Director Shi, I must trouble you with this matter. You’re the most renowned gynecologist in the country, with years of experience, and we’ve known each other for over a decade. I trust you with this. But if word gets out, it could ruin Yi’s career, so you must be absolutely discreet.” It was Sister Hong’s voice.
Yi covered her mouth in shock, barely able to believe it—Sister Hong was so ruthless, secretly contacting a doctor to terminate her pregnancy.
From her debut to her rise to stardom, Sister Hong had orchestrated every step, showing more concern for her than even herself—she was like family. But tonight’s words changed everything. To Sister Hong, only Yi’s career—or perhaps her own interests—mattered. The pregnancy, which could destroy that future, was unacceptable.
Yi held her breath and hurried silently back to her room, locking the door behind her.
Staring at Ye Fei’s number, she hesitated for a long time before finally summoning her courage and pressing the call button. At this moment, she had no one else to turn to; only Ye Fei could help her, only he could tell her what to do.
And deep inside, a voice encouraged her: this man was the father of the child in her womb.
“Hello?” A deep male voice came from the other end.
Hearing it, Yi felt as if struck by a spell—her body trembled uncontrollably, filled with fear, anticipation, and a strange warmth, a sense of safety wrapping around her.
“Hello?” Ye Fei called again, puzzled.
Who was this? Calling in the middle of the night and saying nothing—was something wrong with them? Ye Fei checked the number again. It was unfamiliar; he had no idea who it could be.
“Ye… Ye Fei…” Yi finally spoke, her voice uneasy.
A woman! He didn’t recognize the voice, but Ye Fei could sense no hostility—if anything, there was a hint of joy? He asked tentatively, “Yes, this is Ye Fei. Who is this?”
Suddenly, a thought flashed through his mind—a woman, that night at the banquet, after he’d been drugged and had relations in his sleep.
“Is it you?” Ye Fei asked, reminded of the mysterious woman from that night.
Yi’s body trembled. She realized Ye Fei had guessed the truth. Biting her lip, she replied, “Yes.”
“Who are you?” Ye Fei asked seriously.
“I… I… I’m Yi.” It took all her courage to say her name. As soon as she did, a weight lifted from her heart; the man she’d slept with now finally knew who she was.
“Yi…” Ye Fei murmured. After a few seconds, his eyes widened in shock. Could it really be her? The famous Yi? He remembered seeing her at the banquet that night—a stunning beauty.
But why Yi? And why him? If it had been some other rich man, he might have believed it, but himself?
“Ye Fei, are you still there?” Yi asked, expectant.
“I’m here,” Ye Fei replied, falling silent. He wondered why Yi, after disappearing for so long following their encounter, would now suddenly contact him.
“Ye Fei…” Yi called, pausing as if gathering her emotions, then spoke slowly, “I’m carrying your child—”
“What—” Ye Fei shot up from bed, aggravating his wound and sharply drawing in breath.
“Ye Fei, are you alright?” Yi asked anxiously.
“I’m fine, just pulled at my wound. Go on, what happened?” Ye Fei said, calming himself.
“You’re hurt? How are you now?” Yi found herself worrying for Ye Fei without realizing it.
Ye Fei steadied himself. “I’m alright, just tell me what’s going on.”
He already had some idea. After their night together, with no feelings between them, Yi had left without a word, intending to forget the incident. But now, discovering she was pregnant with his child, she must have been torn. Yet, by calling him, she had chosen to keep the child.
Truth be told, Ye Fei felt no affection for Yi, despite her beauty. But the thought of the child left him conflicted.
Yi explained the situation and finally asked Ye Fei what she should do. She wanted to keep the child—it was her own flesh and blood.
“Hmph, they want to get rid of my child? Don’t be afraid. Where are you? I’ll come to you,” Ye Fei said with a cold laugh.
If he didn’t know, then fine, but now that he did, he would never let his child be taken away.
“I’m in Guang City now, for an event. Don’t worry, the child is safe for now. Director Shi is in Deepsea, and Sister Hong will bring me back there soon,” Yi replied. With Ye Fei’s reassurance, a wave of calm settled over her, as if she had found an anchor in a storm.
After a few more words, they ended the call. With no emotional foundation between them, there was little else to say.
A while later, Yi sent a message: Ye Fei, I don’t want our child to be born into an incomplete family. I know we have no feelings for each other, but let’s start building one now—for our child’s sake.
Ye Fei read the message and replied: Sleep well. I will accept you and the child.
After reading his reply, Yi fell asleep with her phone in her hands, a smile on her lips.
Ye Fei, on the other hand, lay awake, restless. “I actually have a child now.”
