Chapter 48: The Stern Young Nurse
"Ye Fei, wake up and take your medicine." A young woman in a white nurse's uniform entered the ward, her voice sweet as she called out.
Ye Fei looked up and couldn't help but silently praise the high-class private ward—even the nurses here were beautiful. He glanced at the nurse's badge on her chest: 'Sun Nana,' Senior Nurse.
After he finished his medication, Sun Nana said, "Don't move around; I need to check how your wound is healing."
Ye Fei nodded, and Sun Nana helped him unbutton his clothes. When she saw the wound that pierced through his abdomen from front to back, she was shocked and covered her mouth in surprise. Compared to that, the dozen or so scars on his back, scratched by something sharp, seemed insignificant.
However, Sun Nana was a senior nurse. After her initial astonishment, she quickly regained her composure and carefully examined Ye Fei's wound. Her movements were gentle, and her delicate fingers felt soft and smooth as they touched Ye Fei's skin.
"Your wound is healing well. Remember the doctor's instructions: avoid forbidden foods, as they can hinder recovery and even worsen your injury. While you're hospitalized, I'll be your dedicated nurse. If you need anything, call me directly. There's a service bell by your bed—if I'm not around, press it and I'll come. If I'm unavailable, another nurse will take care of you temporarily," Sun Nana reminded him earnestly.
Ye Fei nodded, and Sun Nana left.
In the afternoon, Su Xue came by after work. Shu Manyun still had matters to handle, so Su Xue was alone.
"Ye Fei," Su Xue called out joyfully, sitting beside him and shyly giving him a kiss.
After this ordeal, in which Ye Fei had nearly died, Su Xue had become a bit more open than before. In the past, she would never have dared to kiss him so boldly unless the circumstances gave her courage.
A trace of moisture lingered at the corner of Su Xue's lips, as if she wanted more.
"Uh..." Ye Fei looked at Su Xue, at a loss for words.
Just then, Sun Nana entered for her rounds. Seeing their posture, the flush on Su Xue's face, the moisture at her lips, and Ye Fei's awkward expression, she could guess what had happened.
"Ahem—" Sun Nana's expression turned stern.
"The patient hasn't recovered yet and needs proper rest. Besides avoiding certain foods, there are also things you shouldn't do, as they can cause abnormal physical reactions and delay recovery. I hope both the patient and family member can exercise restraint," Sun Nana admonished.
Su Xue's face instantly blushed as red as blood. She was always conservative about such matters, and now, being caught and openly admonished made her wish she could disappear.
Even Ye Fei, with his well-practiced thick skin, couldn't help but blush.
"How embarrassing, being lectured by a young woman," Ye Fei thought, his face burning.
"Family member, please step aside. The patient needs to take his medicine, and I need to check his wound. If it's inconvenient, please leave for a moment," Sun Nana said professionally.
Su Xue couldn't withstand the pressure and hurriedly left the ward with her head down.
"So embarrassing," Su Xue thought, blushing. She could have stayed, but she really couldn't bear Sun Nana's gaze, so she escaped.
Inside the ward, Sun Nana gave Ye Fei his medicine and examined his wound, saying, "It's healing well, but you need to control yourself. Until you're fully recovered, it's best to avoid those matters."
Ye Fei could only smile wryly. "Actually, you've misunderstood—we didn't do anything."
"Are you sure? I can tell. Don't hide it—you need to cooperate with the hospital’s treatment to recover properly. Otherwise, if you end up with lingering complications, it will be troublesome. Don’t just chase after momentary pleasure," Sun Nana looked at him as she spoke.
"It was just a kiss," Ye Fei admitted.
"Even kissing is off-limits. If she ate something you must avoid, all your efforts would be wasted," Sun Nana said seriously.
"So if she rinses her mouth, can we kiss?" Ye Fei teased.
"Even then, no. Kissing can trigger physical reactions like increased blood flow and other anomalies. If something happens, who will be responsible? So until you're fully recovered, best to do nothing and strictly follow the hospital’s instructions," Sun Nana replied with unwavering authority.
No matter what Ye Fei said, Sun Nana countered with a barrage of rules. Ye Fei could only concede—this young nurse wielded the hospital regulations as her strongest weapon, and he had no desire to argue with her.
"I'm leaving now. If you need anything, press the service bell. Remember to restrain yourself," Sun Nana reminded him, gathering her things and heading out.
As she passed Su Xue, Sun Nana couldn't help but add, "You can go in to visit now, but he hasn't recovered yet, so don't stay too long—twenty minutes is enough. For his health, you both need to exercise restraint. If you need anything, press the service bell, and I'll come right away."
"I understand, Nurse," Su Xue replied quickly.
Watching Sun Nana’s figure disappear down the hall, Su Xue finally breathed a sigh of relief—the situation had been so awkward. If Ye Fei hadn’t been there, she would have left immediately.
She entered the ward and saw Ye Fei lying on the bed, looking at her with a half-smile. Su Xue shot him a glare and closed the door.
"What are you laughing at, you troublemaker! It was so embarrassing just now—and it’s all your fault," Su Xue scolded.
Come on, I didn’t do anything! Ye Fei protested, "You were the one who kissed me! How can you blame me? I’m more wronged than Dou E!"
"You keep talking," Su Xue’s face flushed, and she protested anxiously.
"Fine, fine, I won’t say it anymore. It was me who kissed you," Ye Fei laughed, placing his hand gently on Su Xue’s waist and caressing her as he asked about the situation. He learned that everyone at the company was safe, Qiu Jinshan and the Ming Gang had made no further moves, and because of what happened, the Deep Sea City police were taking the matter seriously, even assigning officers to protect Shu Manyun and the others.
Such brazen vendetta from the underworld had stirred societal panic, especially among the wealthy and prominent figures of Deep Sea City. Shu Manyun, as the CEO of Skyward, was a member of the city’s elite. The attempt on her life by the underworld had left everyone on edge, all applying pressure so that even the provincial authorities took the matter seriously.
Word had it that specialist agents had been dispatched to handle the case. Under such powerful public scrutiny and pressure, neither Qiu Jinshan’s people nor the influential Ming Gang dared to act recklessly—for that would be challenging the government, an act tantamount to suicide.
Ye Fei understood that this storm would only allow the authorities to catch a few ordinary henchmen of Qiu Jinshan or the Ming Gang, making them scapegoats to quell public outrage. Both Qiu Jinshan and the Ming Gang had their own shields of protection. Unless those shields fell, it would be difficult to convict them.
Of course, in the case of assassination, that was another matter. Their protectors might be formidable, but if they themselves perished, none of it would matter. Still, unless absolutely necessary, Ye Fei had no intention of going that far.
