Chapter 015: Having a Man Is Wonderful
Chapter 015: Having a Man by Your Side Is Wonderful
"How could he possibly be a master of internal power?" It took Liu Fengkai a full thirty seconds to recover from his shock. He turned to Awei, disbelief written all over his face.
"He is definitely a master of internal power, of this I am certain." Awei nodded, a bitter taste in his mouth. He was at the peak of external power himself—unless facing a master of internal power, it was impossible for someone to cripple him with a single punch. To casually destroy his arm with one blow, at the very least, required someone at the mid-stage of internal power. Even Fang Tao, the most fearsome person at the boss's side, could never accomplish this.
"So what if he is at the internal power stage? I refuse to believe there’s no one in Kun City who can handle him," Liu Fengkai spat, his voice cold as steel, eyes burning with rage.
"Young Master Liu, that man is extremely dangerous. Offending a master of internal power for the sake of a woman is not worth it." Awei hesitated but still advised him. He knew Liu Fengkai well; this rich young man had never truly intended to marry that woman, Ximen Lu. It was all just for amusement, and once he got bored, he’d discard her like all the others. He’d seen this happen more than once. But to offend one of the few internal power masters in all of Kun City for a woman—this was sheer folly. Though he too was puzzled by the sudden emergence of such a terrifying young man, he trusted his own instincts. The ruined arm he now possessed was proof enough.
Injuries inflicted by internal power masters were not easily healed. Even if he recovered, his arm would never be the same again. A wave of sorrow welled up in Awei's heart.
"But I can't accept this!" Liu Fengkai hissed, voice trembling with hatred. He knew it was stupid to cross an internal power master for a woman, yet the humiliation he had just suffered gnawed at him. Never before had anyone dared curse him, let alone throw him out with a single word—"get out." And he hadn’t dared utter a word in protest.
It was stifling, humiliating.
If word of this got out, he’d lose all face in Kun City, perhaps even the entire Donghai region.
He couldn’t swallow this humiliation.
Awei sighed and didn’t press further. He was just a bodyguard, a servant. Though his boss, Liu Ping, always treated him with respect, he was still a subordinate, unqualified to dictate his master's decisions. He had a premonition that if Liu Fengkai insisted on going after Chu Fei to vent his anger, he would only end up suffering.
Even if all of Liu Ping’s top experts were gathered—Fang Tao included—they might not be a match for Chu Fei.
The image of that seemingly simple yet overwhelmingly powerful punch in the office still haunted Awei. He was grateful Chu Fei had no intention to kill; had that fist landed on his heart, he would have been a corpse by now.
—
In the office.
Chu Fei gazed impassively at Ximen Lu before him. That whole scene just now—had it been anyone else, they’d likely have ended up crippled. That Awei fellow was a master of external power, someone who could easily dispose of ordinary special forces or armed police.
"Ximen Lu, don’t you think you owe me an explanation?" Chu Fei frowned, feeling thoroughly used and not at all pleased, no matter how beautiful his manipulator.
"What explanation? Aren’t you standing here just fine?" Ximen Lu shot him a coquettish smile, as if nothing had happened. Truth be told, she didn’t know any martial arts and had no clue just how dangerous the situation had been. All she saw was Chu Fei’s powerful punch, which instantly swept away any disappointment she’d felt about his recent downfall. Deep within, a surge of excitement and fervor bloomed anew.
Even in his most downtrodden state, Chu Fei was still so fierce and domineering—still so captivating.
At that moment, Ximen Lu’s heart fluttered like a young girl’s in the first flush of love.
"You…" Faced with her retort, Chu Fei found himself at a loss for words.
Just then, Ximen Lu flashed a beguiling smile, eyes wide with a pitiful expression. "You saw what happened just now. Liu Fengkai is nothing but a playboy. Would you really stand by and watch him ruin me, then cast me aside?" She even blinked rapidly, as if trying to squeeze out a few tears to add to the effect—though she failed.
Chu Fei could only sigh helplessly. A woman’s greatest weapon wasn’t her body, but her ability to act coy, play cute, and feign helplessness—especially a beauty like Ximen Lu. Even knowing she was faking it, Chu Fei simply couldn’t stay angry.
When a woman is shameless, she’s truly invincible!
"Not angry anymore?" Ximen Lu moved closer.
"Hmph," Chu Fei snorted but said nothing.
"Hehe, I knew you were generous and wouldn’t fuss with a little woman like me." Her smile grew even more enchanting, and just as Chu Fei braced for more coquettish antics, Ximen Lu suddenly straightened, returned to her desk, and said, "Now that everything’s fine, you should leave first. If you stay too long, people might get the wrong idea. I’ll call you when it’s time to go."
"Damn it!" Chu Fei stared at Ximen Lu, now sitting primly and crossing her legs, ready to process documents. In that moment, he truly understood the meaning of "use the donkey to grind the mill, then slaughter it for meat." She had used him, then, once he had served his purpose, immediately cast him aside.
What a heartless woman! She’d used him, pacified him, and now turned her back as if nothing had happened.
"What? Still here?" Noticing Chu Fei standing motionless, Ximen Lu looked up, her expression curious, as if nothing at all had occurred.
"No—" Chu Fei gritted his teeth, gave her one last glance, then strode out of the office, fearing that if he stayed a moment longer, he’d lose control and hit her. Infuriating!
—
"Ah, having a man by your side really does make you feel safe," Ximen Lu murmured as she drove, not clear if she was talking to herself or to Chu Fei beside her.
Chu Fei sat in the passenger seat, eyes closed as if resting, pretending not to hear her. He’d realized by now that Ximen Lu was a seductress; every word out of her mouth was a trap. The safest course was to play dumb rather than end up counting the money for his own sale.
"Chu Fei, are you asleep?" Apparently bored talking to herself, Ximen Lu turned to look at him.
Chu Fei kept up the pretense.
"Don’t play dumb with me—answer me!" Her voice suddenly grew sharper, a hint of annoyance in her tone. With such a beauty beside him, how could he possibly sleep?
"Boss, what’s up?" Chu Fei opened his eyes with a look of confusion, as if just woken.
Ximen Lu rolled her eyes, clearly exasperated, but quickly smiled mischievously. "I was just saying, that Xu Shiqi woman must still be into you. How about you try a little harder tomorrow night and win her over? I’ll help you get her drunk, and then you can do whatever you want. How about it?" she teased, laughing like a wily fox.
"Don’t joke around." Chu Fei couldn’t even keep up the act. He replied seriously, "Even if I tried, I couldn’t reach Xu Shiqi’s current status, not even with a ladder. And if her fiancé, the Prince of Dongyu, found out, I’d be dead." He’d already learned that his former class monitor Xu Shiqi was engaged to the heir of the Dongyu Group, Cao Kaiyu. Her extraordinary achievements were due not only to her own abilities but also to her high-profile engagement.
Just earlier, Ximen Lu had been chattering while driving, filling Chu Fei in on the latest about Xu Shiqi and several old classmates.
"We’ll do it in secret. You won’t tell, I won’t tell, and if Xu Shiqi suffers a loss, she won’t dare say anything either. Who would know?" Ximen Lu pressed, still trying to tempt him.
"Enough! If you keep talking nonsense, I won’t go to dinner tomorrow night." Chu Fei cut her off, truly at his wit’s end. This woman was capable of anything; if Xu Shiqi knew she was being set up by her best friend, she’d probably jump into the river out of anger.
"Tch, can’t you take a joke?" Ximen Lu pouted, but finally stopped her nonsense.
Chu Fei had barely enjoyed two minutes of peace when Ximen Lu suddenly piped up, "They say the entertainment industry is dark, lots of ties to the underworld. Do you think we’ll run into any gangsters at our negotiation?"
"You’ve watched too many movies," Chu Fei chuckled.
"You never know; these days anything could happen." Ximen Lu pursed her lips, but then smiled seductively. "But with you here, I’m not worried. You’re so good at fighting."
"So bringing me along was just for protection?" Chu Fei glanced at the woman beside him. She truly was a chameleon—gone was the red suit from this morning, replaced by a light grey business outfit, making her appear much more serious and every bit a goddess.
"What did you think? Are you any good at negotiating?" Ximen Lu retorted.
Chu Fei wisely kept silent.
About ten minutes later, the car stopped in front of a nightclub.
Gazing at the entrance, Ximen Lu frowned slightly, displeased that the agency had chosen such a disreputable venue for the negotiations.
Still, she said nothing, stepping inside. Thankfully, it was late morning and the club was nearly empty; otherwise, she might have turned and left on the spot. Negotiations should take place in a conference room, or at the very least, a lounge or tea house—not in such a place.
"Excuse me, are you Miss Ximen Lu from Feilu Media?" a server hurried over, smiling.
"Yes," Ximen Lu replied coolly, expressionless. If this negotiation weren’t so important, she would never have set foot in such a place.
"Please follow me. Brother Yong has been waiting for you," the server said respectfully, then turned to lead the way.
Ximen Lu frowned. Who was this Brother Yong? But she didn’t dwell on it, quickly following the server.
Chu Fei narrowed his eyes, a sense of unease growing. The way the server addressed "Brother Yong"—an honorific used only in underworld circles—suggested trouble ahead.
