Chapter 129: Late-Night Talk at the Bedside
Chapter 129: Nighttime Whispers by the Bed
Chu Fei lay on his side, motionless, his wide eyes fixed on Fu Ziqing’s breathtakingly beautiful face just inches away.
Fu Ziqing dared not move either, her eyes equally wide as she stared at Chu Fei.
At that moment, silence spoke louder than words.
Two full minutes passed before Fu Ziqing bit her lip and whispered, “Move your leg.” Her voice was soft, trembling slightly, like a frightened kitten.
Embarrassment flashed across Chu Fei’s face. Hastily, he withdrew the leg that had been pressing down on Fu Ziqing. When he had crawled into bed earlier, his excitement had caused him to press his leg directly onto her thigh and lower abdomen.
Pulling back his leg, Chu Fei sighed inwardly—the smoothness of Fu Ziqing’s skin was undeniable.
“Phew—”
Fu Ziqing exhaled audibly and murmured, “It’s late. Let’s sleep.”
“Mm,” Chu Fei nodded, unsure of what else to say.
“Click!”
A soft sound echoed as Fu Ziqing reached out and switched off the overhead light. Only a delicate pink gauze lamp by the bedside remained, casting a hazy glow that made the room’s atmosphere even more intimate.
“Fu Ziqing,” Chu Fei shifted slightly, not to lie down but to lean against the headboard, turning to smile warmly at her before speaking.
“What is it?” Fu Ziqing turned her head, also leaning on the headboard, showing no sign of sleepiness. She glanced at Chu Fei and instinctively moved a little further away.
“Are you scared of me?” Chu Fei grinned.
Fu Ziqing’s expression stiffened immediately. That question was exactly the one she had asked him moments ago, now turned back on her. Instinctively, she denied, “Who—who said that?” Her nerves made her words falter.
“Haha!” Chu Fei laughed triumphantly.
Fu Ziqing furrowed her elegant brows—not in anger at Chu Fei but at herself. Before deciding to have Chu Fei come to Donghai, she had already prepared for every possible scenario, including sharing a bed at night, even imagining how to handle it if Chu Fei made any inappropriate moves. She believed her mindset was strong enough to face any uncertainty calmly.
Yet now that it was happening, all her prior planning seemed useless. This was not the usual calm she was accustomed to—especially lying in the same bed with Chu Fei. Her nervousness dulled her thoughts.
“You say you’re not afraid, but look, your face has turned pale.” Chu Fei stopped laughing and teased.
“Huh?” Fu Ziqing exclaimed, immediately trying to confirm if he was serious. Then she realized the dim light made it impossible to see her complexion clearly—Chu Fei was simply joking.
This only made her more annoyed at herself for losing even the most basic rationality.
How could this be?
She had prepared herself to face any challenge.
Suddenly, Fu Ziqing looked up at Chu Fei.
“What are you thinking? You’re not going to try to take advantage of me, are you?” Chu Fei teased.
Fu Ziqing’s heart fluttered but she quickly regained composure. After all, her experience in the business world had forged a strong mental resilience. Unmoved by his playful smile, she asked, “What do you want me to say?”
“Nothing, just bored and wanted to chat with you,” Chu Fei replied cheerfully.
“Just chat?” Fu Ziqing was momentarily speechless. His answer left her without a retort.
“Otherwise? You think I’m going to force you?” Chu Fei smirked, deliberately edging closer.
Fu Ziqing’s expression shifted, but she remained calm, biting her lip, “I know you’re a man of principles.”
“What principles?” Chu Fei noticed the tension in her eyes and teased, “A man’s biggest principle is liking beautiful women, isn’t it?”
“—” Fu Ziqing was again silenced.
“Just joking. You actually believed that?” Chu Fei chuckled, then reached into the drawer beside the bed and pulled out a cigarette and lighter. With a flick, he lit it and took a leisurely drag. Turning back, he caught Fu Ziqing staring dumbfounded, her eyes wide with surprise. It suddenly dawned on him this was not a hotel room and the woman beside him was no casual companion from a night of indulgence. Embarrassed, he smiled awkwardly. “Sorry, I forgot this is your room.” He tried to put out the cigarette but couldn’t find an ashtray, feeling a little speechless at the awkward moment.
Fu Ziqing seemed to sense his embarrassment and, for reasons unknown, relaxed. She smiled softly, “It’s okay, you can smoke. I don’t mind.”
“Really don’t mind?” Chu Fei turned to her.
“No,” Fu Ziqing shook her head. At that moment, her heart truly settled. Looking at him seriously, she said, “This villa was bought to be our little home. I know you don’t like the Fu family mansion and wouldn’t want to go there, so I specially bought this place. From now on, it will be your home in Donghai. Here, in your own house, no one will control you—not even me.”
Chu Fei stared at Fu Ziqing, stunned. After a long moment, he smiled, “You sound like a devoted wife and loving mother.” His expression was complex.
“Do I sound like I wouldn’t make a good wife and mother?” Fu Ziqing raised an eyebrow.
Chu Fei looked at her seriously, “Do you think you can?”
Facing his gaze, Fu Ziqing gave a bitter smile and shook her head. No woman is perfect. She knew her own shortcomings well. While a genius in business, she had great deficiencies in daily life. The presence of Xiao Jing was to compensate for those; often acting as her caretaker, almost like a housekeeper.
For example, basic cooking was a huge blind spot for Fu Ziqing. So far, she could only make instant noodles. She couldn’t even fry an egg properly—either undercooked or burnt to inedibility. It wasn’t for lack of effort or lessons from Xiao Jing; she simply lacked talent. She often felt disheartened thinking about it.
Chu Fei hadn’t realized that a single question could stir such deep thoughts within Fu Ziqing. He thought he had hurt her feelings and smiled awkwardly. “Actually, you don’t need to be upset. Everyone has their own strengths...”
“Don’t try to comfort me. I know my flaws,” Fu Ziqing interrupted solemnly, looking into his eyes. “I really can’t be the perfect wife and mother. If I marry you, would you mind?”
“Mind you?” Chu Fei was taken aback, shaking his head. “Impossible. I doubt there’s any man in the world who would mind you.” He spoke the truth. Fu Ziqing’s perfection exceeded many people’s imagination—she was a goddess born to be admired and cherished. What did it matter if she couldn’t cook? Her hands always commanded wealth effortlessly; cooking would be a waste. No man in the world would mind that.
“You’re good at flattering,” Fu Ziqing’s expression was complex.
“I’m just honest,” Chu Fei shamelessly replied, then before she could answer, he asked, “Do you know how to eat?”
“Eat?” Fu Ziqing blinked, puzzled. “If one didn’t know how to eat, wouldn’t they starve to death?”
“Exactly! You’re rich, you make even more money, and you have endless wealth. As long as you can feed yourself, everything else can be handled by hiring servants. Isn’t that better?”
Fu Ziqing stared at Chu Fei, dumbfounded. His words were so outrageous she couldn’t refute them.
“Though I know you’re just trying to comfort me, I’m still happy,” Fu Ziqing finally smiled, though it was a bitter one.
“This isn’t comfort—it’s the truth,” Chu Fei chuckled. Then, looking at Fu Ziqing’s breathtaking face even in the dark, he asked, “Can I ask you something?”
“Go ahead.”
“How did you dare make such a bold decision to sleep with me?”
Chu Fei looked at Fu Ziqing in genuine puzzlement. He still couldn’t understand what had possessed her to make such an irrational choice.
“You’re my fiancée. If you don’t sleep with me, do you expect me to sleep with Xiao Jing instead?” Fu Ziqing was truly calm now, smiling lightly as she countered.
“You’re so beautiful. Don’t you worry I might lose control and punish you on the spot?” Chu Fei ignored her teasing and pressed on.
“I’ve thought about it,” Fu Ziqing bit her lip and nodded.
“Really not afraid?” Chu Fei found it hard to believe.
“Afraid? Who says I’m not?” Fu Ziqing shook her head.
“Afraid and yet you still let me in bed?” Chu Fei was even more surprised.
“I’m your fiancée. If you can’t help yourself and take me, then I’ll accept it. It’s only a matter of time, isn’t it?” Fu Ziqing retorted, a faint, self-deprecating smile curling her lips. “But I believe the man who is with me isn’t some lecherous scoundrel.”
“Damn!” Chu Fei was stung by her sharp words. This woman was too clever—she even set traps with her words, making it impossible for him to tease her without crossing a line and becoming the scoundrel.
Damn it!
Chu Fei glared at Fu Ziqing’s stunning face opposite him, feeling an urge to curse. Being so thoroughly outmatched irritated him.
Fine, scoundrel it is.
Suddenly, Chu Fei gritted his teeth and grabbed one of Fu Ziqing’s delicate hands.
Fu Ziqing’s smile froze, her beautiful eyes flashing with a hint of alarm.
But inside, Chu Fei grinned triumphantly.
I’ve caught you pretending!
[After pushing myself so hard yesterday, I couldn’t sleep well at night. I got up late today and the update was delayed—apologies once again. Now I’m off to eat—]
