Chapter 84: The Fallen Angel (The Last Free Chapter Before Release)
“If you ever truly saw me as your sister, you wouldn’t treat me like this! Using me as an experiment, bullying me! You bullied me ever since we were kids!” Xu Jing shouted at the top of her lungs.
With her wild appearance and loud outburst, Xu Jing seemed terrifying. Yet Xu Yu’s expression remained indifferent, betraying no joy, anger, sorrow, or delight. She even looked a little angelic…
Like someone… a bit like… Sasm.
Yes! The Angel of Desire, Sasm—one who could lead human souls to ruin.
At this moment, Xu Yu truly seemed like she was tempting Xu Jing, or rather, guiding Xu Jing step by step into becoming what she was now.
…
“My dear little sister, when have I ever not treated you as my sister?” Xu Yu approached Xu Jing, gently cradled her face, and gazed at her tenderly.
Staring into Xu Yu’s gentle eyes, the fury in Xu Jing’s own gradually faded, replaced by a dazed confusion.
Xu Yu seemed almost magical, able to quiet Xu Jing instantly.
As Xu Jing gradually regained her composure, she transformed back into that adorable short-haired girl, nestled in Xu Yu’s arms.
Stroking Xu Jing’s hair, Xu Yu said softly, “Sister, you will always be my most cherished little sister. Everything I’ve done has been for your own good.”
“Sister…” Xu Jing murmured lowly, but her eyes were devoid of light, as empty as a puppet’s.
Then Xu Yu embraced Xu Jing with both arms, and together they radiated a brilliant light. The glow was so blinding that Xi Yan had to shield his eyes with his hand.
Yet he still tried to peer through the gaps between his fingers, struggling to see what was happening. As the light gradually waned, Xi Yan caught sight of a pair of enormous wings within it—wings that resembled those of a butterfly.
This… this looks a bit like… Xila…
The thought sprang up unbidden in Xi Yan’s mind.
As the radiance faded, Xu Jing’s appearance changed ever so slightly. Her short hair grew long, her clothes became a flowing black gown, and even her wings turned black. She truly looked like a butterfly, like Xila.
Xu Yu had changed as well, now draped in a black dress, a faint smile on her face.
Xi Yan had the sense that he had just witnessed something monumental…
As the light receded, the barrier Xu Jing had created shattered. Qing Yan, who had been monitoring the situation outside, immediately rushed to Xi Yan’s side.
“Xi Yan! Are you all right…” Qing Yan paid no heed to anyone else; at this moment, her eyes were only for Xi Yan, her worry for his safety written plainly on her face.
A Yuan, meanwhile, had reverted to card form from his injuries and was currently in cooldown—a fact that weighed heavily on Xi Yan.
“I’m fine, look…” Xi Yan gestured for Qing Yan to look at the Xu sisters.
After confirming that Xi Yan was truly all right, with only minor injuries, Qing Yan turned to the Xu sisters. The moment she saw their transformed appearances, her face went pale.
She bit her lower lip in shock, and Xi Yan was utterly perplexed as to why Qing Yan was so frightened—almost terrified.
“Qing Yan, what’s wrong?”
Qing Yan slowly turned her head toward Xi Yan and said, “I… they are… they are…”
“Fallen angels?” Xi Yan finished her sentence. Qing Yan was surprised that he knew, but still nodded.
“Yes… fallen angels… Artificially created, inferior fallen angels—not even a shadow of a true fallen angel. And yet… and yet they could so easily kill us as we are now…” Qing Yan’s lip was bleeding from how hard she bit it, but she seemed not to notice, her whole being suffused with fear.
“Qing Yan, do you know something?” Xi Yan suddenly gripped Qing Yan’s shoulders, gazing at her intently.
But Qing Yan turned her head away, avoiding his eyes. “This isn’t something you should know. But remember, Xi Yan, you may encounter such monsters again in the future. Stay away from them! As far away as you can!”
Xi Yan was startled by Qing Yan’s serious demeanor. His first thought was: what could possibly frighten Qing Yan so? His second: Qing Yan was actually worried about him.
He turned his gaze to the Xu sisters.
The light had only just faded, and both Xu Jing and Xu Yu wore faint, distant smiles.
At that moment, Xu Yu suddenly looked at Xi Yan and said, “You may leave now.”
Her voice was ethereal, hardly human at all.
Hearing that, Qing Yan immediately grabbed Xi Yan’s arm, ready to leave. But just as they turned, a rift appeared out of thin air before them. It quickly widened, stretching into a circular black hole.
Qing Yan pulled Xi Yan back a few steps, muttering to herself, “Someone tore open space with their bare hands… Could it be one of those monsters from the main city?”
Though she spoke softly, Xi Yan still caught her words.
He looked toward the black hole and saw a foot emerge, then another, and at last, two people stepped out.
When he saw who they were, Xi Yan’s eyes widened in shock. They were his “old acquaintances”—Olina Isabel and Bai Ying.
Olina Isabel, on seeing Xi Yan, was nowhere near as surprised as he was. She greeted him warmly.
“Long time no see, Xi Yan.”
“You…” Xi Yan didn’t know what to say, managing only a single word.
Olina Isabel didn’t mind. She smiled at him, then walked over to the Xu sisters.
The two of them immediately bowed respectfully and said in unison, “Xila and Sasm greet our master.”
Hearing this, Olina Isabel frowned in displeasure and said, “You two are not worthy of those names. Continue to use your original ones.”
“Yes.”
“Yes.”
The Xu sisters responded obediently.
The sight left Xi Yan utterly baffled. Why would the Xu sisters recognize Isabel as their master?
Olina Isabel paid him no attention, instead turning to Bai Ying. Dressed all in black, her hair cascading over her shoulders, Bai Ying stepped forward at Isabel’s glance, bowed her head, and awaited orders.
“Take these two back with you. I’ll stay and have a word with Xi Yan.”
“Yes.” Bai Ying, too, replied meekly, then led the Xu sisters away through the black hole.
After they left, the black hole did not disappear immediately—it seemed to be waiting for Isabel.
But Isabel approached Xi Yan, smiling as she asked, “How have you been, Xi Yan?”
