Chapter 134: Suddenly Realizing the Terror of the Land of Survival
Clara looked as though he had anticipated Xi Yan’s reaction long ago. As soon as Xi Yan finished asking his question, Clara pulled a map from inside his coat and handed it to him.
Seeing how readily Clara had volunteered it, Qingyan’s lips twitched. She thought to herself, This is obviously a trap...
Xi Yan accepted the map and unfolded it. Several locations were marked across it, each accompanied by the level of the dungeon found there.
He spread the map across the table and asked Clara, “Which one are you talking about?”
Clara leaned toward the table, extended one long finger, and tapped a spot on the map.
“This one.”
Following his gaze, Xi Yan saw that the location he had indicated was an SS-ranked dungeon.
What was more, the dungeon was very close to them. Beside its location, the map even included a description of its contents.
“This...”
Xi Yan glanced over the description. After hesitating for a moment, he tapped the marked location with his finger and said, “All right, this one. I’ll go.”
“I’m going with you,” Qingyan said.
Xi Yan shook his head, stopping her. “There’s no need. I can go alone. If we run into danger, I don’t want to drag you down.”
“I said I’m going with you. Do you understand?” Qingyan suddenly became domineering. “Your life belongs to me now. Without my permission, you are not allowed to die.”
Her words left Xi Yan with no way to refuse.
Strictly speaking, his life no longer belonged to him. He had already promised that once his younger sister was settled, he would hand his life over to Qingyan.
“In that case... all right.” Xi Yan shook his head helplessly. By now, he was certain that Qingyan had feelings for him.
Otherwise, she would never risk accompanying him for the sake of his worthless life. It simply would not be worth it.
Yet even as he sought to increase his strength, Xi Yan had not forgotten his good friend, Qu Ya.
He turned to Clara and said, “I have a friend named Qu Ya. I’d like to ask you to help me find him, or at least locate some trace of him. Would that be possible?”
Clara immediately nodded in agreement. The request was easy enough for him, and he happened to know where Qu Ya was. However, he had no intention of telling Xi Yan directly.
“Since you’ve agreed, I have no other requests. But... how do I leave this place and reach the dungeon?” Xi Yan asked.
The people outside who had been blocking him showed no sign of stopping until they killed him. Every route leading out had been sealed off completely, making it impossible for him to leave.
“You needn’t worry about that. If you wish, I can make them disappear right now.”
Clara said it with a cheerful smile. Xi Yan assumed he meant that he could make those people leave temporarily, but he regretted his assumption not long afterward.
“Then I’ll trouble you, Mr. Clara. I want to head to the dungeon now,” Xi Yan replied.
Clara nodded, rose from the sofa, and walked out of the room one step at a time.
Xi Yan thought Clara had gone to disperse the crowd. But not long after he left, Xi Yan heard cries for help.
He exchanged a glance with Qingyan, then hurried to the window. At that moment, a smear of bright red blood splashed across the glass.
Although the window before them was fitted with glass, the blood landed directly in front of Xi Yan’s line of sight.
Everything before him turned red. Through the hazy gaps, he could make out Clara killing people with elegant grace.
Truly, with elegant grace.
Clara barely moved amid the crowd. He merely raised a hand slightly, and the people around him collapsed one after another.
“What is he doing?” Xi Yan cried out.
He did not consider himself a good person, nor did he believe he had any obligation to save these people. But Clara had suddenly killed so many of them for no apparent reason. It was still far too ruthless.
Qingyan merely spread her hands, showing little reaction to the scene before her. “Wasn’t that what he asked you about earlier? And didn’t you agree?”
Her words suddenly made Xi Yan understand what Clara had meant when he said, “If you want, I can make them disappear right now.”
He had not meant dispersing them.
He had meant killing every one of them on the spot.
Clara was far too ruthless. Xi Yan even felt a trace of fear. If he continued working with Clara, what kind of ending would await him in the end?
“Xi Yan?”
When Qingyan saw that he remained silent for so long, she waved a hand in front of his face.
Xi Yan came back to himself without a word. He returned to the sofa and sat down, interlocking all ten fingers tightly. He looked deeply anxious.
Puzzled, Qingyan came over and asked, “What’s wrong with you? Weren’t you fine just now? Why do you suddenly look so nervous?”
Xi Yan forced a strained smile. “I just suddenly thought about how dangerous the dungeon might be. I suppose I’m a little frightened.”
Qingyan regarded him suspiciously but did not expose his lie. She did not believe him in the slightest.
If he were truly afraid of the danger inside the dungeon, he would not be going.
Besides, after everything they had gone through together, she had never noticed that he was afraid of dangerous dungeons.
Although she had no idea what had caused his sudden anxiety, Qingyan decided not to press him further.
After a while, Clara returned.
At the sound of the door opening, Xi Yan turned toward the entrance. Clara walked in looking completely spotless, exactly as clean as he had been before leaving the room.
He had killed so many people without getting a single drop of blood on himself. That could not have been a coincidence. It could only mean that Clara’s abilities were terrifyingly powerful.
At that thought, Xi Yan suddenly realized that he did not even know Clara’s level.
Clara entered, considerately closed the door behind him, and sat down beside Xi Yan.
“All done. I’ve taken care of everything for you. You can leave now.” As he spoke, Clara wiped his hands. When he finished, he tossed the handkerchief straight into the trash.
Xi Yan watched the handkerchief disappear into the bin and quietly swallowed.
It was not that he was afraid of Clara. He had simply, for no reason at all, suddenly sensed that the Land of Survival was terrifying.
There was no particular reason.
Xi Yan had always known how dangerous the Land of Survival was. Until now, he had never found it frightening.
But when he had stood by the window and watched Clara kill those people, he suddenly understood that the horror of the Land of Survival did not lie in its dangers.
It lay in the way it changed the human heart.
