Chapter 133: Under the Fine-Sounding Name of “Improving His Strength”
Once one person made the first move, others began to follow, and the scene descended into chaos in an instant.
Standing at the doorway, Xi Yan watched the people slaughtering one another in the confusion. A sudden doubt arose in his heart. What exactly was the Land of Survival? Why had such a thing come into existence? It seemed to be testing the limits of human nature...
“Only the victor can become the master of Earth’s Land of Survival!”
Someone in the crowd suddenly shouted those words.
That cry pushed the war between them to a fever pitch.
It was no exaggeration to say that Xi Yan felt blood spatter across his face.
He reached up and touched the blood on his cheek, and his heart grew even heavier.
Why had people become like this toward one another? How had the Land of Survival come into existence?
At that moment, another thought suddenly occurred to him: if he wanted to live peacefully with his younger sister, having sufficient strength alone might not be enough to keep them safe.
Therefore, he had to understand the essence of this world. Only then could he survive more securely.
A strong desire to uncover the truth behind the Land of Survival suddenly ignited within Xi Yan.
He turned and went back into the room, then looked eagerly at Qingyan.
The intensity of his gaze made Qingyan uneasy. She had been sitting on the bed, but instinctively retreated several steps and asked, “Why did you suddenly come back...?”
“You’re from the Main City, aren’t you?”
Xi Yan’s expression was utterly serious.
Qingyan nodded. “I have indeed lived in the Main City all this time. What is it?”
“Then you should be closer to the origin of matter.”
Xi Yan’s words made Qingyan frown. She had no idea what he was talking about, much less what he was trying to say.
“How was the Land of Survival created? Surely there must be an answer in the Main City, right?”
This time, Qingyan understood him, but she had no way to answer. She did not know either.
“I don’t know. Asking me won’t help.”
Qingyan knew that she had misunderstood Xi Yan just now, though he had not noticed. In order to save face, she suddenly adopted a cold attitude toward him.
Xi Yan paid no attention to her manner. “Then do you know who in the Main City might know the answer?”
“Why are you suddenly asking about this? I advise you not to pursue it. It will do you no good,” Qingyan replied coldly.
Xi Yan returned to the sofa and began considering what he should do next.
Feeling that the atmosphere in the room had become awkward, Qingyan went to the window and opened it, gazing at the scenery outside.
Then she suddenly noticed that the people who had been fighting outside had stopped. They were no longer slaughtering one another.
Qingyan immediately waved to Xi Yan. “Xi Yan, come here!”
Xi Yan went to her side. She pointed outside, and he followed her finger. There, amid the crowd, he saw Kela smiling at him.
Xi Yan immediately sensed that something was wrong.
Kela had also spotted him. He walked toward the room and knocked on the door when he reached it.
Xi Yan exchanged a glance with Qingyan before opening the door. Kela walked inside.
Looking at Kela’s beaming face, Xi Yan could not shake the feeling that he was up to no good.
“Did you make them kill one another?” Kela asked as soon as he entered.
Xi Yan shook his head.
“I only said two things. They killed one another on their own. What does that have to do with me?”
Upon hearing his answer, Kela said nothing. He merely smiled and shook his head before sitting down on the sofa. Then he noticed that something about it seemed strange.
The sofa was much wider, and the material spread over it was also thicker. It looked as though it could accommodate an entire person.
At that thought, Kela looked at Xi Yan, then at Qingyan. His gaze shifted back and forth between them before finally settling on the bed behind Qingyan.
Kela seemed to have suddenly understood something, and his expression immediately grew solemn.
He thought, If Qingyan and Xi Yan have gotten together, then what I intend to do will become much more troublesome. But that still cannot stop me.
Qingyan watched Kela’s expression change repeatedly as he sat there. Remembering the way he had looked at the two of them just now, she seemed to realize what he was thinking.
She hurriedly explained, “Kela, what are you thinking? Look at that lecherous smile on your face. Don’t get the wrong idea!”
Kela looked somewhat embarrassed by her words. He coughed twice before once again putting on a solemn expression.
“I wasn’t thinking about anything else. I only came to see how things were going with you two.”
“Not long after I returned, one of my subordinates told me that a chaotic slaughter had broken out here, so I came to take a look.” Kela shrugged, wearing an entirely innocent expression.
Xi Yan walked to the window again without turning around. “So you came here to interrogate me? Do you think I did something wrong?”
Though the two of them were cooperating, Xi Yan did not believe that Kela was working with him sincerely. They were merely using each other. There was no need for him to speak with excessive caution or politeness.
“How could I? Even if every one of these people died, it would not matter. Their only value in coming here is to serve as practice for you and improve your abilities.”
Kela’s words were utterly devoid of humanity.
“Then why did you come here?” Xi Yan asked.
Kela sighed, wearing an expression that suggested everything he did was for Xi Yan’s benefit.
“I discovered a dungeon, didn’t I? I came here to see how things were going and hoped you would deal with them quickly so that you could go to the dungeon and train.”
A dungeon?
Xi Yan turned his head and met Kela’s gaze.
Before he could say anything, Qingyan asked, “Why does it feel as though you won’t be satisfied until you get him killed? Don’t tell me you want two positions for residents in the Land of Survival?”
Her words echoed precisely what Xi Yan had been thinking. The reason he had remained here was to improve his strength before going to the Main City.
Yet Kela was always doing strange things, claiming that he was helping Xi Yan grow stronger. In reality, no matter how one looked at it, it seemed as though he was trying to get Xi Yan killed.
“Miss, that’s an unfair accusation. What benefit would I gain from harming him? I can’t become the master of two Lands of Survival. Even if I supported a trustworthy subordinate, how could I guarantee that his loyalty would always remain with me?”
Qingyan rolled her eyes at Kela and made no comment on his words.
Xi Yan left the window and returned to the sofa, sitting down opposite Kela. He picked up the tea set from the table, poured Kela a cup, and handed it to him.
“Mr. Kela, can you tell me where the dungeon is?”
Upon hearing Xi Yan’s words, Qingyan turned to look at him in astonishment.
However she considered it, the dungeon Kela had mentioned sounded like a trap. Why would Xi Yan still want to go?
