Chapter 154: Mikoto Misaka and Kaneki Ken
Supreme Omnipotent Cultivation
Culinary Academy.
Night, 8:00 PM.
"Mmm, the food here tastes pretty good. Thanks for the treat," Gintoki Sakata said, chewing his food.
Yun Zhongxian sat opposite him.
"Yun Zhongxian? That's a rather unusual name. So, what is your purpose in seeking us out?" Shinsuke Takasugi put down his spoon.
"These are your basic profiles, compiled from a certain anime forum," Yun Zhongxian said, placing five stacks of documents before the five of them.
"Mikoto Misaka, Academy City Level 5 Railgun..."
"Kuroko Shirai, Academy City Level 4 Teleporter..."
"Ken Kaneki, One-Eyed Ghoul, strength unknown..."
"Gintoki Sakata, protagonist of Gintama, runs the Yorozuya, strength unknown..."
"Shinsuke Takasugi, antagonist, strength unknown..."
"What is this supposed to mean?" Gintoki Sakata picked up the papers, looked them over, and asked.
"The places where you originally lived belong to another dimension. It should have been impossible for you to come to this world, but something happened that led to your arrival in the dimension where we reside. To put it simply, you belong to people within a story, and you have come to the world that created those stories," Yun Zhongxian explained.
"Characters in a story? You mean our fates were created by someone?" Gintoki Sakata's pupils contracted.
"No, the entities who created you probably don't exist, because those are merely your representations. The story doesn't control you; now that you have come to this world, the story ceases to exist for you," Yun Zhongxian waved his hand, turned on his computer, and logged into the anime forum.
"Front row professing my love for the Railgun!"
"Long live the one and only Railgun!"
"Gintoki Sakata x Shinsuke Takasugi!"
"Little angel Kaneki appears once more!"
"Begging for Kuroko Shirai's spatial displacement range!"
"These people know a part of your story, but not the whole of it. It has already been brought under control. Your photographs haven't been directly captured by anyone, so you can change your appearance and live normally," Yun Zhongxian smiled and said.
"What about that guy?" Gintoki Sakata asked.
"Currently, we have no information regarding him. As for the seventh person, a traffic accident occurred this afternoon, and this footage was captured," Yun Zhongxian opened a video file and clicked play.
Click, click, click, click. The young man's wounds healed, and he stood up.
"Don't... don't film!" the young man shouted, snatched a passerby's motorcycle, and sped away.
"What about the information on this person?" Mikoto Misaka parted her lips. She had seen it clearly—this was wound regeneration... no, it was even the ability to resurrect the dead.
"Unclear," Yun Zhongxian shook his head.
The five of them fell silent. Ken Kaneki wiped his mouth; surprisingly, he could actually digest the food of this world.
"The Special Operations Team has established a Guardian Unit. If you join, your official status will be Chinese citizens, and you will receive a monthly salary along with housing," Yun Zhongxian said, producing five brand-new identity cards.
"What is our mission?" Gintoki Sakata looked at his ID card, which bore a very ordinary photograph.
"No special missions. You only need to deal with that individual when the time comes, and refrain from using your abilities carelessly," Yun Zhongxian shook his head.
"I accept," Gintoki Sakata picked up his ID card.
Shinsuke Takasugi did the same.
Ken Kaneki looked at it and picked his up as well.
"I hope to continue doing what I was doing before," Kuroko Shirai thought for a moment and said.
"You understand the rarity of spatial teleportation just as well as I do. If I told you there are people out there capable of killing you, would you still want to go outside? You probably have no idea how many eyes are fixed on you out there. The black market bounty has already reached one hundred million, dead or alive, for the bodies of the two of you," Yun Zhongxian stated solemnly.
"Kuroko will act with me. The two of us will join the Guardian Unit. Let's go, Kuroko." Mikoto Misaka pulled Kuroko Shirai and left the room.
......
"Big Sister..." Kuroko Shirai stepped outside, looked at Mikoto Misaka's worried expression, and lowered her head.
"Kuroko, no matter which world it is, there are bad people. Previously we had the protection of Academy City, but now we have nothing. Even by joining the Guardian Unit, we still run the risk of being hunted down. But don't be afraid, I will protect you properly," Mikoto Misaka said with a faint smile.
"Big Sister..." Kuroko Shirai hugged Mikoto Misaka, deeply moved, almost drooling.
"Kuroko..." Mikoto Misaka was speechless.
"Big Sister, I will definitely protect you too," Kuroko Shirai raised her head and said with a smile.
......
Ken Kaneki walked through the Culinary Academy. Members of the Special Operations Team were everywhere, but none of them stopped him.
Entering a coffee shop, Ken Kaneki ordered a cup of coffee and quietly savored it.
"Would you like to read a book?" A young man walked up to Ken Kaneki and placed a book on the table.
"Thank you," Ken Kaneki opened the cover, glanced at the first page, and froze completely.
"Welcome to Xuanxue Coffee Shop. We are open temporarily today. My name is Yun Xuan. I understand you very well; the owner of the ACG website is none other than me," the young man took a sip of his coffee and said in a low voice.
......
Night, 10:00 PM.
"This is bad, Captain Yun Zhongxian, Ken Kaneki is gone," a member of the Special Operations Team reported in a panic.
"What? Go find him immediately!" Yun Zhongxian urged anxiously.
"Yes," the team member hurried out the door.
"Discovered so quickly? It seems I still underestimated the Special Operations Team. As for the person, I've already taken him away; handle the rest yourself," Yun Xuan's voice came through Yun Zhongxian's phone.
"Understood," Yun Zhongxian acknowledged, hanging up the call.
That very night, the Special Operations Team moved to block and censor all information regarding Ken Kaneki and the others. It became impossible to search for them or find any trace of news.
By the time people realized what was happening, both their names and pinyin had been completely scrubbed from the network.
......
10:30 PM.
The remaining four gathered together.
"That brat was taken away by someone? Could the opponent defeat him? Why didn't I hear a single sound of a fight?" Shinsuke Takasugi frowned.
"He left of his own accord. Someone probably made contact with him, and that person is likely the culprit who brought us to this world in the first place," Gintoki Sakata rolled his eyes.
"Why would Ken Kaneki leave this place?" Mikoto Misaka wondered aloud, puzzled.
"Does Big Sister have a crush on that white-haired brat?" Kuroko Shirai felt a wave of discomfort.
"Of course not, I just feel like he isn't the kind of person to act recklessly," Mikoto Misaka blushed.
"I bet he was taken away by some improper woman and is probably enjoying that kind of thing somewhere right now," Kuroko Shirai muttered, curling her lip.
"Kuroko..." Mikoto Misaka grew slightly angry.
"Fine, I was wrong, Big Sister," Kuroko Shirai looked at Mikoto Misaka with a wronged expression.
"I'm not lecturing you, but right now we know nothing, so we shouldn't jump to conclusions like that. He might genuinely have encountered something important, or perhaps he met someone who knows the truth," Mikoto Misaka lectured Kuroko earnestly.
"I'm going back to sleep," Gintoki Sakata stood up lazily and let out a yawn.
