Chapter 106: The Weary Yun Xuan
Yun Xuan appeared inside the hotel and glanced at the clock—exactly eight in the evening.
“One more hour. Luckily, I calculated the time correctly,” Yun Xuan murmured, lifting a cup to take a sip of water.
After taking a shower in the hotel room, Yun Xuan dressed in a casual white outfit and set out.
Yukiki Nagashima’s flight was at ten o’clock at night; Yun Xuan and Qin Zhihua could arrive by nine without issue.
Yun Xuan arrived at the Xuanxue Restaurant, where the kitchen lights were still on. He called Qin Zhihua, and soon after, she appeared in a black dress, her face tense with nervousness.
“Let’s go,” Yun Xuan said, opening the car door for her.
The car headed toward Fangyu City Airport. Qin Zhihua stole glances at Yun Xuan from time to time.
“Is there something on my face?” Yun Xuan asked with a smile as he drove.
“No, it’s just that you seem a bit tired. Yun Xuan, you should rest more. There’s no need to push yourself so hard,” Qin Zhihua said softly.
“I’ve been resting well enough,” Yun Xuan replied, eyes fixed ahead, images of zombies flashing in his mind.
In truth, he had not rested well at all and felt a profound lack of security—otherwise, he wouldn’t have entrusted Baixue and Bingxue to watch over him even as he slept.
...
The two arrived at Fangyu City Airport just as they met Yukiki Nagashima.
“Yun Xuan? Zhihua?” Yukiki Nagashima looked surprised to see them.
“Teacher Nagashima…” Qin Zhihua lowered her head.
“It’s not like we’re parting forever. I’ll be back,” Yukiki Nagashima said softly, stepping forward to embrace Qin Zhihua.
“Teacher Nagashima…” Tears fell from Qin Zhihua’s eyes. It was clear she was a delicate soul, afraid of hurting Yukiki Nagashima and fearful that too much distance might shatter their bond.
“I’m glad Zhihua could come to see me off,” Yukiki Nagashima murmured, gently stroking Qin Zhihua’s long hair.
Yun Xuan watched from the side, his mind inevitably drifting toward mischievous thoughts—imagining Qin Zhihua and Yukiki Nagashima in the bath together.
After the embrace, Yukiki Nagashima comforted Qin Zhihua.
“Yun Xuan, while I’m gone, please take good care of Zhihua. As you can see, she’s a gentle and lovely girl,” Yukiki Nagashima told Yun Xuan.
Qin Zhihua blushed, lowering her head. Her heart fluttered like a startled fawn, and Yukiki Nagashima’s words filled her with hope.
“Teacher Nagashima, I understand,” Yun Xuan sighed. This special mission was no easy task.
“I think you’re not yourself. It would be best to see a psychologist. You don’t need to be so guarded. Also… the killing intent on you is quite strong,” Yukiki Nagashima whispered close to Yun Xuan’s ear.
“I understand,” Yun Xuan replied with a bitter smile.
He knew Yukiki Nagashima was no ordinary person.
According to intelligence from the Mizunotsuki organization, Yukiki Nagashima’s origins were unknown. She had once been the school nurse at St. Sakura Girls’ High School, having graduated from there herself, and was possibly a martial artist.
Why she had transferred to Huaxia and why she left remained a mystery.
“Well then, I’ll leave Zhihua in your care. No need to see me off inside—it’s too late tonight. Zhihua, do you remember what I once told you? When you truly develop feelings for a boy, that will be when we part. Don’t be sad or upset—we will always be the best of friends.” Yukiki Nagashima kissed Qin Zhihua’s forehead, placed their hands together, smiled, and waved goodbye as she walked away.
“Congratulations, Host, on completing the special mission. Reward: 1,000 exchange points!”
“Congratulations, Host, on completing Main Quest One. Reward: one silver-tier lottery draw.”
“Main Quest Two: Within one year, establish a romantic relationship with three girls each rated eight points or higher, and willingly share a bed (while awake). Completion upgrades the system to Level 3; failure deducts 10 million exchange points!”
Three voices rang out. Yun Xuan stared at Main Quest Two on the virtual screen, mouth agape. Was this a death wish?
At this point, all tasks in this world had been completed, save for some personal matters involving a few girls and the reward for defeating the Dark Battle Empress.
“This is clearly just making things difficult for me, the protagonist,” Yun Xuan thought, holding Qin Zhihua’s hand tightly.
“Yun Xuan? Yun Xuan?” Qin Zhihua called softly.
“Let’s go,” Yun Xuan said, pulling her along.
Qin Zhihua blushed, lowering her head shyly like a young wife, allowing Yun Xuan to lead her.
...
Back at the Xuanxue Restaurant entrance, Qin Zhihua went upstairs and waved goodbye.
Yun Xuan left the restaurant and headed straight home, stopping on the way to buy a cake.
As soon as he opened the door, a fragrant aroma greeted him.
“Xiao Xuan, you’re finally back! Why didn’t I see you all day?” Yun Xun’er came out of the kitchen carrying dishes.
“I had some business today. After dinner, we’ll all have cake together. Where’s Xue’er?” Yun Xuan placed the cake on the table.
“She’s taking a bath and will be down soon. If you’re hungry, go ahead and eat,” Yun Xun’er said, glancing at Yun Xuan.
“I’ll watch some TV first,” Yun Xuan said, sitting on the sofa.
Soon after, Yun Xue came downstairs in her pajamas.
“Brother! Wow, there’s cake!” Yun Xue exclaimed in delight.
“Could it be that the cake is better than brother? Brother’s really got hit hard,” Yun Xuan teased, feigning injury to make the two girls laugh.
The three ate dinner together, sharing jokes and smiles, filling Yun Xuan with contentment as he looked at Yun Xun’er and Yun Xue.
After the meal, Yun Xuan called Lin Qingyu over, and the four enjoyed the cake together.
“Xuanjun, rest early. Good night,” Lin Qingyu bowed and headed home.
Yun Xuan watched Lin Qingyu’s dark house and thought briefly about his own father—someone he seemingly hardly ever saw.
Yun Xue and Yun Xun’er washed the dishes, and Yun Xue went upstairs first to dedicate herself to her light novel.
Yun Xuan sat on the sofa, flipping through the TV channels.
“Tired, aren’t you? Want to lie down for a bit?” Yun Xun’er asked softly, sitting beside him.
“Just for a little while,” Yun Xuan said, leaning his head on Yun Xun’er’s lap and closing his eyes.
Her lap calmed him—perhaps because of a sense of belonging born from having no one else.
“Don’t overwork yourself. Take a break, or maybe go traveling,” Yun Xun’er said, gently stroking his hair.
“Yeah, I’m going to travel for a few days soon. Sister Xun’er, are you happy?” Yun Xuan asked with closed eyes.
“Very happy. Xiao Xuan is so sensible, and Xue’er is so obedient. Having you two is enough for me,” Yun Xun’er smiled.
“That’s good. I… am happy, too,” Yun Xuan opened his eyes and stood up.
“Going to bed now? Not lying down a bit longer?” Yun Xun’er asked, surprised.
“No, just need to sleep,” Yun Xuan said, then went upstairs.
Yun Xun’er bit her lip, glancing at the dining table. How much longer could this peaceful everyday life continue?
“Xiao Xuan, what should I really do?” Yun Xun’er looked at his retreating figure, a trace of conflict in her expression.
