Chapter Thirty-One: Her Schemes and Thoughts (Part One)
After finishing his speech, Magistrate Ding was the first to walk toward a distant corner. As he walked, he cast a fleeting, almost imperceptible glance at Yun Shuang, whose face was lost in thought. Hah, this lady's skin isn't thick enough after all; she forced her way into their county office's little meeting...
In the next moment, he saw Lady Yun suddenly ask, "May I inquire, Lady Luo, have you been feeling unwell lately, or do you suffer from any old ailments?"
Everyone was taken aback. Chen Hao, in particular, looked tense and worried.
"I suppose he's causing trouble everywhere just to get his mother to intervene, to attract her attention, but his mother never once bothered with him," Ming Fan said, and suddenly felt a twinge of sympathy for Li Nanchang.
Somehow, she found herself developing a vague, inexplicable feeling toward this opponent—part rogue, part clown, utterly indifferent to life and death. Was it admiration, regret, or pity? She couldn't tell.
Though she had long been prepared for this, ever since they ventured into the ruins, Liana still couldn't help but feel incredibly nervous when, after being left aside for so long, such an event suddenly arrived.
Master Liu brought Old Seven to his garden, where a stone statue stood by the flower bed. He gently shifted the statue, and a camera lens emerged from the statue's mouth, scanning Master Liu. The water level in the flower bed rapidly receded, revealing a row of stairs at the bottom. Master Liu dismissed the entourage, allowing only the steward and Old Seven to accompany him.
I instantly grew tense, staring fixedly at Sun Heng and Old Five. Should anything unexpected happen, I would rush in to help, rather than walk away.
Zhou Skinflint's face darkened, beads of sweat gathering on his brow. Something in his expression was deeply unsettling.
"Understood." Shen Tong tossed his backpack onto the car, drove to the ambush site, camouflaged the vehicle, then climbed the mountain.
Xue Jiancheng said nothing more. In his heart, Shen Tong was not just a nephew, but a son; he had always raised him as such. Gazing out the window, Xue Jiancheng shook his head and left the office.
Ye Zhen, sitting in the passenger seat, checked his phone and the car's built-in positioning system. They could no longer get a signal here, the display was blank. But at least it showed the surrounding direction and location, better than nothing.
"Time is pressing, and since the senior refuses to show himself, I shall take my leave," said Shan Thirteen, as the moments ticked by. The flickering aura remained elusive, leaving him helpless.
In a flash, Liu Xiaomang felt his body frozen by a thick layer of ice. The frigid air invaded him, making him shudder uncontrollably.
Ye Feng believed that marriage should be something Li Mengqi was aware of. Otherwise, he would always feel he owed her. It was his own incompetence that had led Li Mengqi into a state of suspended existence. Until she woke, Ye Feng would do nothing else.
Yu Chen said nothing, simply lifted the floorboard. Sure enough, beneath it was a passage leading downward. Wu Yu glanced at it—the pitch-black tunnel seemed very deep. On this point, Yu Chen hardly seemed to be lying.
"I came here to find you, of course. As for who I am, I'm not sure myself—perhaps an enemy, perhaps a friend," Qin Han replied.
At first, the two had their doubts. Once everything was explained, they immediately agreed to the plan.
After several days of rest, Ling Yi was ready to set out. But before he left, he needed to write a letter—a letter addressed to Yan Xin.
He had always wanted to hold onto her, to keep her from slipping away, once her refuge and harbor. Yet that dreadful day had arrived nonetheless; from the moment she stepped into the Su family, their fate was sealed.
Her tears gently soaked the sheets. Tonight, with no moonlight, it was as if she had no heart. Her tears went unnoticed by him—perhaps he sensed her muffled sobs, or perhaps he thought it only coquettishness; but this didn't matter. What mattered was that her younger brother Ye Feiyu was finally saved.
