Shen Mo looked at the message Gu Luosheng had sent and finally felt the heavy stone in his heart fall away. That day, when Gu Luosheng fell off the cliff, Shen Mo had rushed into the woods to search for any trace of her. Like most others, he found nothing, and despair began to creep in, pushing him to even consider buying the entire Zijin Mountain. He thought if he owned the mountain, he would fell every tree just to find her.

Fortunately, at the critical moment, Shen Mo received a silent voice message from Gu Luosheng. That was enough—he knew she was still alive. He sent her a location sharing request, hoping she would join. Every passing second was agony, but at last, Gu Luosheng successfully shared her location with him. Shen Mo immediately found nearby rescue workers to accompany him to her location.

When they arrived, Gu Luosheng’s body was already suffering from hypothermia, her face drained of all color. It was only thanks to the doctors that she was pulled back from the brink of death. Shen Mo was not one to act impulsively; he knew lingering outside her ward would accomplish nothing, and he didn’t want to draw attention from her family, so he left the hospital. Still, he instructed Zhou Qiang to check on her daily. But before Zhou Qiang could report, Gu Luosheng awoke and sent Shen Mo a message herself.

"Glad you're alright," Shen Mo typed, his eyes flashing with icy resolve as he asked what had really happened—how she had come to fall from the cliff.

Gu Luosheng confided in him, recounting her ordeal in detail. Shen Mo’s expression grew dark and frightening as he realized Gu Qingwan was indeed involved.

Shen Mo: "Do you need me to help you get revenge?"

Gu Luosheng: "How could I? I have no evidence."

Shen Mo: "Fight fire with fire."

Gu Luosheng thought for a moment and ultimately refused. "Let it be. As long as I remain in the Gu family, I’ll gather evidence. One day, I will expose Gu Qingwan’s hypocrisy."

She understood the true meaning behind Shen Mo’s words: he wanted to quietly remove Gu Qingwan from the equation. But that would burden Shen Mo with her life—why should he be dragged into such matters for her sake?

Even Gu Luosheng herself had never dared imagine Gu Qingwan would push her off a cliff. Gu Qingwan’s boldness was simply astonishing.

Unable to sway Gu Luosheng, Shen Mo finally agreed not to act rashly.

Gu Luosheng spent a month in the hospital, during which Gu Yunqi, Lin Yichen, and Shen Mo often came to visit her. Ever since Gu Luosheng had told Gu Yunqi that it was Gu Qingwan who pushed her, the guilt in Gu Yunqi’s eyes was palpable every time he looked at her.

It seemed Gu Yunqi believed her, yet he didn’t know how to handle the situation. Gu Luosheng didn’t want to make things harder for him; he had already done enough for her.

When Gu Luosheng was discharged, Gu Yunqi canceled all his work commitments and personally celebrated her return, taking her for a lavish meal at Drunken Immortal Tower. The spacious private room held only the two of them.

Neither spoke; Gu Yunqi simply kept drinking, and soon his tears began to flow.

"Luosheng, it’s your brother who’s let you down," he sobbed.

Gu Luosheng replied softly, "Brother, I’m glad you still treat me as you always have. I don’t blame you."

Gu Yunqi couldn’t meet her gaze. He remembered promising as a child that he would never let her suffer. But now, this pain was more than mere words—it threatened her life.

Gu Yunqi couldn’t bring himself to send Gu Qingwan to the police; their parents would never allow it, and that was the source of his guilt.

With bleary eyes, he muttered, "I asked Qingwan if she pushed you off the cliff. She denied it."

"But I saw right through her lie..."

"Luosheng, I don’t know how to face you."

Gu Luosheng took a deep breath. Seeing Gu Yunqi in such distress, she felt an ache in her heart.

Ever since Gu Qingwan returned to the family, Gu Luosheng had always borne her grievances alone, and those who wronged her never apologized. Only Gu Yunqi ever opened his heart to her.

"Brother, I only ask one thing of you."

"What is it?"

"I will collect evidence of Gu Qingwan’s attempt on my life. When the time comes, I will bring her to justice. I hope you won’t intervene or involve yourself." Since Gu Yunqi was torn, Gu Luosheng wished he would simply stay out of it altogether.

If he wouldn’t help her, she hoped he wouldn’t help Gu Qingwan either.

Gu Yunqi closed his eyes, tears slipping down his cheeks. He exhaled heavily, his gaze hardening. "Alright, I promise."

To Gu Yunqi, there was no such thing as absolute fairness. By choosing neutrality and not helping Gu Luosheng, wasn’t he in some way aiding Gu Qingwan instead? Helping her conceal her crime...

Gu Yunqi drank himself into a stupor, and no amount of persuasion could stop him until he passed out at the table. Gu Luosheng called a driver to take them both home.

Aunt Wang, alerted by Gu Luosheng’s message, was already waiting at the door. Together, they helped Gu Yunqi inside.

It was late, and everyone else had retired for the night.

Gu Luosheng returned to her room, finding it pristine and spotless. Clearly, someone had continued to clean it during her absence.

During her hospital stay, neither Gu Yanfeng nor Ren Fang had visited her. Gu Luosheng had finally seen their true colors.

Gu Qingwan’s push was, in a way, repayment for all the years the Gu family had raised her. Gu Luosheng was not angry; the more these people treated her with indifference, the more justified she felt in sending Gu Qingwan to court.

If possible, Gu Luosheng was willing to set a trap for Gu Qingwan...

Early the next morning, Gu Luosheng left the house and went to the courier station to pick up a package that had been waiting for a month. Had she not called ahead, it would probably have been disposed of.

She opened the package to find it was not the pinhole camera she had ordered. Immediately, she left a negative review for the seller on her phone.

The item didn’t match the photos!

The seller protested, explaining that pinhole cameras couldn’t be sold through legitimate channels.

Looking at the camera, which was as big as her fist, Gu Luosheng could only swallow her disappointment. She snapped a photo and complained to Shen Mo, "I can’t believe it. I wanted to buy a pinhole camera online, but they sent me this big thing instead."

Shen Mo immediately understood why she wanted the camera. "Do you need a pinhole camera? I can get one for you."

"Really?" The camera she’d received was so large that the risk of discovery was huge. Gu Luosheng still preferred a pinhole camera.

"Really. When would be convenient? I’ll bring it over."

Gu Luosheng thought to invite Shen Mo to dinner that evening, to thank him for saving her life as well.

"Tonight works for me."
