Chapter 151: Missing You
Watching the woman across from him beaming with joy, he couldn't help but laugh along with her.
"Boss, you actually look much better when you smile than at any other time."
"Do I need you to tell me that I look good? That's common knowledge, isn't it?"
Ji Ya was neither being coy nor bragging. From childhood to adulthood, the phrases she heard most often were, "Ji Ya, you are so beautiful," or "Ms. Ji, you look stunning." But coming from Lin Yu, the words seemed to carry a different flavor. Her heart felt warm, her smile deepened with genuine delight, and before she knew it, she blurted out, "Actually, I do miss you a little."
The sentence hung in the air, and both of them froze. Then, they looked at each other and smiled. Although the barrier between them hadn't been fully broken, the unspoken rapport between the two was growing ever closer.
Watching Ji Ya absentmindedly kneading her hands together, Lin Yu’s restless agitation became harder to control. He tried to turn over, but unexpectedly bumped into the wall. Seeing him wince and rub his forehead, Ji Ya couldn't help but laugh. She realized, a moment later, that she had been laughing much more than usual lately. Without realizing it, she was being influenced by him—her personality becoming more playful, her laughter coming more easily.
This change caught her off guard, yet she felt no urge to resist. On the contrary, the more she resembled him and the closer she moved into his world, the more relaxed and at ease she felt.
"I won't tease you anymore. Let's talk about work. How is the filming going? Is everything going smoothly?" She was only this talkative around Lin Yu; with others, she was notoriously sparing with her words.
"It's going well. I should wrap up completely by tomorrow," Lin Yu said, raising an eyebrow. "Boss, you wouldn't happen to have another script waiting for me, would you? If so, you'd better act fast! My acting skills are in high demand, you know!"
Ji Ya curled her lip in disdain. "Who could compete with me for you?"
What was hers was hers; no one could take it away. The air grew thick with intimacy. Lin Yu, however, feigned ignorance. "Boss, what did you say? The signal was bad; I didn't hear you."
Ji Ya’s face flushed, but she wasn't annoyed. She raised her voice, repeating her claim of ownership, "You are my person, and no one can take you away."
Lin Yu, oblivious to the cue, steered the conversation away. "I’ll probably finish filming tomorrow morning. I'll book my own ticket back in the afternoon. Does the boss have any other instructions?"
Ji Ya looked at him, speechless. She had made herself so clear, yet this boy kept changing the subject and playing the fool. How annoying! But no matter what, she would find a way to get what she wanted.
"When you get back, give me a massage."
"I'll be exhausted after filming. Let me rest a bit, won't you?"
"I still have that massage voucher from the ice rink. A person of their word should never go back on a promise. You aren't going to try to wiggle out of it, are you?"
Lin Yu was momentarily at a loss for words.
"Then... should I come to the office to find you?"
"Come to my house."
*Huh?*
*Huh?*
*Huh?*
The beautiful CEO was inviting him to meet her alone at her home, and under the guise of a massage? If that were really the case, he, the "wealthy woman's favorite masseur," would certainly not be sleepy anymore! He had to make sure he was ready for the boss! In his excitement, he turned around and hit the wall again, but he ignored the pain.
"Alright, alright. But keep in mind, it's just the two of us. I'm saying this now: I'm selling my skills, not my body!"
Ji Ya frowned. "What's wrong? Are you incapable?"
"Boss," Lin Yu said, his expression turning serious as he stood up. "You can't just go around saying a man is incapable! He might just prove you wrong!"
Ji Ya’s face turned slightly red. "I don't believe you."
"You don't?"
Lin Yu's competitive spirit was instantly ignited. He narrowed his eyes, his fighting spirit fully aroused. Since the boss didn't mind the two of them being alone in a room together, he had nothing left to hold back.
"Wait for me to arrive, and then come pick me up."
This inexplicably domineering tone gave Ji Ya the strange illusion of being a pampered wife waiting for her husband to come home.
...
The next day’s filming arrived as scheduled. Lin Yu changed into his costume. According to the plot, his character was no longer hiding his identity; he could shed the shackles of his wheelchair and soar freely through the air, riding on spiritual energy.
Unfortunately, the great demon lord, desperate to take the heroine for himself, went mad and used all his life's power to trap Lin Yu's sect and three others in a formation. Using the lives of innocent people from the four sects as leverage, he demanded that the hero destroy his own spiritual power and return the hidden heroine.
Upon hearing the news, Lin Yu rushed back without a moment's delay, sacrificing his last chance at freedom and casting aside his hope for a new beginning.
The stunt coordinator approached Lin Yu. "Mr. Lin, we'll be using the wire rig in a moment. Do you really not need a stunt double?"
Since the start of filming, although he wasn't as professional as the career stuntmen, Lin Yu had insisted on doing everything himself from beginning to end. He never shied away from fight scenes, and even when he got hurt, he never blamed anyone—he was solely focused on doing his part well. In normal circumstances, a supporting role wouldn't merit this much effort, and other actors wouldn't have poured so much energy into it. This was why Lin Yu commanded the respect of the entire crew.
Li Shiche was also someone who deeply respected the craft, performing his own stunts from start to finish. What made it even more remarkable was that he had met an equal match in Lin Yu; as the story progressed, their coordination grew, and the number of retakes dropped significantly.
For this climactic showdown of power, both of them spoke in unison: "Let's begin!"
The director looked at the camera crew. "Alright, everyone to your positions! Ready for the take!"
The stunt coordinator walked away, feeling a bit disappointed—getting paid to do nothing was great, and he wasn't about to argue with money.
This scene was filmed against a green screen, to be filled in with special effects later. Lin Yu stood on the prepared props. Looking down from three meters up, he felt a bit of trepidation, but he quickly suppressed it; after all, the wire technicians were there to ensure his safety. They were professionals, and as long as he followed their instructions, there was no fear of an accident.
With the director’s call, filming officially began.
The members of the four sects (the extras) were all gathered, most of them "seriously injured." The hero, unable to defeat the crazed demon lord Li Shiche and suffering from old wounds sustained while saving the heroine, collapsed to the ground after a clash of palms with the villain. He gripped his long sword, trying to prop himself up, but he was too weak to fight back.
Li Shiche, harboring deep hatred for his romantic rival, raised his hand and channeled his internal spiritual energy. Unfortunately, there were no special effects on set; he raised his hand in a grotesque, claw-like pose, waiting for the post-production magic, which almost made the hero—who was staring right at him—laugh out loud.
Fortunately, thanks to his acting foundation, the hero managed to suppress the urge to break character. The great demon lord Li Shiche, unwilling to give his rival any chance to recover, prepared to deliver a fatal blow.
