Lin Mo changed her clothes and redid her makeup.

She sat before the mirror, letting the attendants tend to her.

In the reflection, Lin Mo’s long ink-black hair was gorgeous, and a touch of cosmetics made her features breathtakingly lovely.

Her gaze was profound.

Feng Zhaoning was known as the Ghost-Faced Divine Doctor, not because his appearance was terrifying.

On the contrary, he was supremely exquisite.

He possessed a certain feminine delicacy, yet lacked none of a man’s ethereal aloofness.

His slender and emaciated figure gave off a frail, sickly aura.

Yet the chill deep within his bones exuded an evilness that struck a chord of helpless fear.

*Knock.*

*Knock.*

*Knock.*

Someone knocked on the door.

Qiuer turned her head and saw a man standing at the entrance, dressed in a cyan-grey traditional Chinese outfit.

He was tall and thin, with a pale, cold complexion and a fragile, sickly air.

A pair of phoenix eyes turned upward at the corners, tinged with a seductive reddish hue.

His thin lips were somewhat pale at the edges, yet crimson red in the center.

Beautiful.

Yet exceedingly dangerous.

Qiuer hurriedly lowered her head. "Master Feng, you've arrived."

She took two steps back until her lower back bumped against the wall, preventing her from retreating further. "The young master won't be back until tonight."

Feng Zhaoning nodded. "Step down."

All the people in the room scurried away in a flurry.

Only Lin Mo and Feng Zhaoning remained.

Lin Mo sat on the stool, watching the figure at the doorway through the mirror.

Her back stiffened. "Second Brother."

Feng Zhaoning walked up behind Lin Mo, his slender, pale hands resting on her shoulders.

His thumb delicately traced a small peach blossom tattoo on her back.

"I still remember when you were leaving, crying as you said you wanted to live a life in the light."

"It seems a life in the light hasn't necessarily brought you peace of mind."

Lin Mo lowered her gaze, a deep sense of helplessness sinking into her eyes. "That's right, Second Brother, you're right."

"I thought it was a life in the light, but I didn't expect it to be hell."

Feng Zhaoning smiled peacefully. "I went to see you once."

"At the school, I watched you from afar for a moment."

"You know, I respect Momo the most. Since you said you wanted to cut ties with the past, of course I would keep it engraved in my heart."

"I'm sorry, Second Brother..." Lin Mo felt a pang of guilt.

"It's fine. Aren't you back now?" Feng Zhaoning lowered his gaze gently, tenderly twisting a strand of her hair between his fingers. "Your hair has grown much longer, different from before."

"You look like a grown-up now."

Feng Zhaoning sighed softly, bending down as his hands slid from her shoulders down her arms.

It was like an embrace from behind, enclosing her, taking her hands and placing them over her abdomen like an affectionate lover.

Yet he exerted no force, nor did he make her feel uncomfortable.

Just like a considerate gentleman who knew boundaries.

"Momo, should Big Brother vent your anger for you?"

"As long as I want them dead, they won't live past midnight tonight."

"I will return what they inflicted upon you, piece by piece, and you can watch them die with your own eyes."

Lin Mo's entire body grew intensely stiff.

She certainly knew her second brother's methods.

He could make them die—die silently and with excruciating agony.

She bit her lip. "Brother, Big Brother already said he would let me handle it myself."

Feng Zhaoning chuckled softly by her ear. "Sheng Cang has a bad temper, but he listens to you the most."

"He doesn't have the heart to watch you struggle, but..."

"I don't want to leave anything in this world that could possibly harm you."

"I'm afraid of you being sad."

Feng Zhaoning smiled gently. "Big Brother is only doing this for your own good; you'll understand."

Lin Mo felt the person behind her was ice-cold, raising goosebumps on her arms.

She quickly forced a smile. "Second Brother, let's not talk about these things, shall we? We haven't seen each other in so long. How is your medical skill coming along?"

"Tell me about what you've been up to lately?"

As she spoke, Lin Mo stood up.

Feng Zhaoning's smile held not a hint of danger; his eyes reflected only Lin Mo.

Like an abyss, capable of dragging her down into its depths.

Seeing her stand, he took her hand and led her downstairs.

His tone remained indifferent as he spoke. "They're all dead."

Lin Mo froze. "Who's dead?"

"Those who incited you to leave your brother are all dead." Feng Zhaoning walked with an even pace, as though speaking of something utterly insignificant.

He sensed his younger sister's hand trembling slightly.

He guessed perhaps he had been too blunt and frightened her.

However, everything he did was for her own good; with a little soothing, she would come to understand his intentions.

Lin Mo's face turned pale, her back rigid.

Feng Zhaoning led her to sit on the sofa, and Qiuer hurried over to pour tea.

Out of habit, Feng Zhaoning took a sip first to ensure it was poison-free before handing the other cup to Lin Mo.

"Momo, you're too kind-hearted and easily deceived."

"Those people weren't acting for your own good. If they had been, Big Brother wouldn't have harmed them."

"They only wanted to drive you away so they could take your place. You know that, don't you?"

Of course Lin Mo knew.

In the shadows, there were no such things as saints.

Those who schemed for her departure did so for status, for better resources.

To reduce the number of competitors.

Yet Lin Mo had simply gone along with the flow; she could hardly be considered used.

"Brother."

Feng Zhaoning placed the warm teacup in her palms. "A girl should drink more warm water. Your period is due again these next few days, isn't it?"

"You suffered hardships when you were young, so your constitution is weak."

"When your period first started, Big Brother remembers you were in pain all night."

"At the time, I wondered what I could do to make it hurt less, wishing I could bear the pain in your place."

Thinking back on it, Feng Zhaoning found it rather amusing.

He was a man; how could he experience this on his sister's behalf?

"Does it still hurt now?"

Lin Mo bit her lip. "It still hurts, but I can bear it."

Feng Zhaoning felt a twinge of heartache.

His gaze was earnest, as if steeped in melting moonlight. "Big Brother will cure you."

He raised a hand to stroke Lin Mo's cheek, coaxing her in soft, gentle tones. "Big Brother can't bear to see you in pain."

Lin Mo held the cup and took a sip of the warm water.

Qiuer, standing to the side, had drained of all color.

Though she listened to Master Feng talk about dysmenorrhea as if it were a terminal illness, she couldn't smile at all—instead, she was terrified.

When the young master killed people, there were usually signs.

Master Feng was different; one moment he might be smiling warmly, and the next he would abruptly take someone's life.

It was terrifying.

Noticing Qiuer's hands trembling slightly, Lin Mo said, "Qiuer, go help me tidy up my room. I don't like my vanity table being messy."

Granted a reprieve, Qiuer fled in haste.

Lin Mo feigned composure.

Yet the man beside her let out a low chuckle.

"My Momo is still so kind."

"Big Brother won't kill the innocent indiscriminately, you don't need to worry."

"You used to say I didn't care about human life, but Big Brother has changed. You'll see the changes in me."

Feng Zhaoning had expected Lin Mo's reaction.

"I know, you'll need some time to adapt."

"It's fine, Big Brother will prove it to you."
