Chapter 28: Staying at the CEO's Home
The doctor nodded. "Yes."
"Does that mean she will be treated here starting today?"
"I recommend a dietary management plan of no less than a month, using a gentler approach."
Weisheng Yan agreed. This spacious luxury flat was certainly large enough to accommodate Lin Mo.
The doctor administered an IV drip for pain relief and stayed through the latter half of the night to monitor the bottles. Once the pain medication took effect, Lin Mo’s agony gradually subsided. She shifted from a painful, curled-up posture to sleeping peacefully while hugging her quilt. She was truly exhausted, and after the ordeal she had faced earlier that evening, she was mentally drained as well.
Weisheng Yan watched the young girl, her brows tightly furrowed as if she were having a nightmare. He walked over to the bedside, leaned down, and rubbed her brow with his finger. "So young, yet so many worries."
In her sleep, Lin Mo heard a man’s heavy sigh. Subconsciously, she reached out and grabbed Weisheng Yan’s hand. He smelled of a cool, refreshing fragrance, and she pressed his hand against her cheek.
"Oh, this..." The doctor watched, terrified that she might dislodge the IV needle.
Weisheng Yan, his hand held captive, glanced at the doctor. The doctor felt his hair stand on end. "President, I’ll move it for you right away..."
"No need." Weisheng Yan’s eyes showed a hint of impatience. "Bring a chair over."
It seemed he had picked up a troublesome burden. The doctor dutifully obeyed, stealing glances at the scene while feeling scared to death. Wasn't the President known as the "Living Yama"? How could he be so kind to a little girl? It was terrifying—the kind of thing one would have nightmares about even after getting home.
Weisheng Yan had always loathed physical contact with the opposite sex. Yet, with Lin Mo, it seemed to be fine. It was very strange.
When Sun Wu entered, he coughed awkwardly. "Ahem... Boss, why don't you go get some rest? There's an important meeting tomorrow morning."
Weisheng Yan pulled his hand away. The young girl let out a soft, milky whimper and turned over, settling back into a sound sleep. Weisheng Yan let out a low huff and rubbed his own wrist.
Early the next morning, Lin Mo was awakened by someone. She opened her eyes to find herself in a huge, soft bed within a room decorated with exquisite luxury.
She rubbed her eyes. "So, was the rebirth just a dream? Am I still at home?" She paused, "But... it feels a bit different." The house she lived in didn't overlook the river, did it?
Lin Mo was half-awake, looking dazed.
The doctor smiled. "Miss Lin, you should get up and eat. Starting today, I will be in charge of your diet. I hope you will cooperate and not give the President anything to worry about. By the way, my name is He Yue."
Lin Mo blinked. "What year is it?"
He Yue laughed. "This is the first time I've seen a stomach ailment affect someone's memory. Tell me, Miss Lin, would you let me study this? I happen to be short one research paper." He Yue had a bit of a humorous streak.
Lin Mo realized she must have fainted from a stomach attack the night before. She remembered being disciplined by Qin Lian and the others, but what happened after that? They certainly wouldn't have been kind enough to bring her back. And this decor was definitely not the Lin family home.
"Where is this place? Who brought me here?"
He Yue tilted his head. "Oh, you don't know? The President played the hero and brought you back last night. This is the President's residence in City A, the penthouse at Jiangshan Garden. You do know who the President is, right?"
Lin Mo froze. Jiangshan Garden was the most prestigious luxury residence in City A. The President... could it be Weisheng Yan? That was impossible. But he was the only "President" she had been in contact with lately. Lin Mo shook her head; it couldn't be him. He had no relation to her, and there was no way he would have appeared at City A University to rescue her.
He Yue brought over some hot porridge. "Don't overthink it. The President has already gone to the company. You'll see him tonight."
Lin Mo followed He Yue to the dining room. Having no slippers, she walked barefoot across the carpet. She looked up and saw the most famous river in City A outside the massive floor-to-ceiling windows. The view was boundless.
Her stomach no longer hurt, though she still looked a bit haggard. After a few spoonfuls of hot porridge, she felt much better. He Yue had even prepared nourishing soup for her.
He Yue looked curious. "Miss Lin..."
"Just call me Lin Mo."
"Alright, Lin Mo. Are you... are you dating the President?" He Yue propped his chin on his hand. "The President is so attentive to you. Will you be the future young mistress of the Weisheng family?"
"Cough, cough!" Lin Mo choked.
After the meal, she realized she hadn't requested leave. She took out her phone and found it was powered off. Once it charged and turned on, she saw countless messages. Ignoring the vitriol from the Lin family, she opened the chat box with Lu Mingzhu.
[Lu Mingzhu: Momo, take a good rest for the day. Come back to work once you've recovered. The company has already advanced your salary; remember to check.]
Lin Mo was stunned. She checked her newly opened bank card and saw that 8,000 had been deposited that morning. She pinched her cheek. "Chuanguang... are they really this kind?" This was the nth time she had said this. For some reason, everyone at Chuanguang was incredibly friendly to her. The company was so humane.
At Chuanguang Group, Lu Mingzhu sat in the secretary's office, having received Lin Mo's message of thanks. She smiled and turned back to organizing documents.
Liu Qi asked curiously, "Sister, why are you so good to Lin Mo? You went to the finance department to advance her salary first thing this morning. You used to be the 'ruthless reaper'—no newcomer was ever not afraid of you."
"She has a special status." Lu Mingzhu held up the printed files. "The President went to pick her up in the middle of the night yesterday. From now on, don't look at her as a newcomer; look at her as a... well, a giant panda. You know, a mascot, the office's spoiled darling, get it?"
"Wow!" Liu Qi couldn't help but laugh. She was amazed she had stumbled upon such juicy gossip. "She definitely has to be the office darling then. Who knows, she might be the future Mrs. President."
Lu Mingzhu said this to ensure everyone understood the situation. There were women in the secretary's office who had designs on the President, and it was inevitable they would be jealous of Lin Mo. If one of them did something foolish and bullied her, it would be hard to resolve.
"Forget about 'Mrs. President' or not. Just treat her well, that's all. We are a listed company, so don't go spreading rumors."
Liu Qi nodded. "Got it!"
However, despite her attempt to set the tone, some were already finding fault with Lin Mo. A few women were drinking coffee in the breakroom.
"Did you hear? The newcomer yesterday took the boss's seat on her first day. Hilarious."
"Yeah, I wonder why Sister Lu put such a young girl in the boss's office. Isn't she just trying to offer her up to the boss?"
"Who knows? Maybe she's getting old and faded herself, and wants to secure her position?"
"In my opinion, any of us is better than that newcomer. All she has is youth; she really doesn't know her place."
"She didn't come to work today. Let's see what happens when she shows up; we'll have to have a little talk with her."
In the breakroom, those women, consumed by jealousy, finished their coffee and went about their business.
