Chapter 27: Bridal Carry
Lin Hen stopped Qin Lian.
"Mom, stop hitting her. Lin Mo doesn't seem to be doing well."
Only then did Qin Lian look over. Lin Mo’s breathing was shallow, her eyes were tightly shut, and she was drenched in sweat. She appeared to be enduring immense pain.
Qin Lian felt a twinge of guilt, but brushed it off. "I only hit her a few times, is it really necessary to put on such a show? I think she’s just acting. After the way she threw Wanwan so violently, how can she have the nerve?"
Neighbors peered through the doorway, whispering among themselves.
"I guess the family of the person she threw down the stairs came to settle the score."
"That’s for sure. If my family member was thrown down and left bleeding like that, I’d be out for blood too."
"Do you think something bad will happen?"
"Who cares? It serves her right."
...
"Thud, thud, thud." Rapid footsteps approached.
Sun Wu led the way, followed by several bodyguards.
"Stop! What are you doing!" Sun Wu rushed into the room. Seeing the unconscious figure on the floor, his expression changed instantly. He didn't dare move her, stepping aside instead.
His actions made Qin Lian and the others look toward the stairwell. A tall young man walked in, his presence sharp and cold, radiating a dark, menacing aura. As soon as he appeared, the very air in the room seemed to drop in temperature.
"Boss, Miss Lin, she..." Sun Wu hesitated.
Weisheng Yan furrowed his brows tightly, casting a cold glance at Qin Lian. "You did this?"
Qin Lian pursed her lips, feeling deeply insecure. "I... so what if I did? I’m disciplining my own daughter, does an outsider like you have any right to interfere? Who are you? Are you that wild man she’s seeing behind our backs? Let me tell you, she is betrothed to the Mu family, so don’t try to throw your weight around in front of me..."
Sun Wu barked, "Shut up!"
"Do you have any idea who you are talking to?!"
Lin Juan owned a startup and was a CEO himself. He was well-versed in the industry, and seeing Weisheng Yan, he was struck with utter disbelief and shock.
Who was Weisheng Yan? He was the head of the four great young masters of Kyoto, backed by the generations-old elite Weisheng family. He owned countless listed companies, the largest of which was the Didu Group. And Lin Juan knew that the president of the largest group in A City, the Chuangguang Group, was also Weisheng Yan!
Such a man was always the focus of the news; how could he possibly appear in this old residential building in the middle of the night for the sake of Lin Mo?
"Mom, stop talking." Lin Juan’s face turned pale. If Lin Mo really had a connection with Weisheng Yan, it would be the greatest stroke of fortune she had ever accumulated in eight hundred lifetimes. Mu Bai, while well-off, was simply not worth mentioning compared to Weisheng Yan.
Weisheng Yan was known for his ruthless methods and had never had a woman by his side.
Qin Lian was still fuming. "Why should I stop? She is my daughter, I carried her for ten months and gave birth to her—I can do whatever I want!"
Weisheng Yan’s eyes turned icy. Qin Lian couldn't help but step back, feeling a genuine sense of dread from the depths of her soul.
"You are not fit to be a mother." His tone was laced with menace.
In his presence, Qin Lian felt pitifully small, sensing that if she dared to say another word, something terrible would happen.
Weisheng Yan turned away and scooped the unconscious Lin Mo off the floor. He spotted a suitcase in the rental unit. "Sun Wu, take her to Jiangshan Gardens."
When Qin Lian heard those words, her ears rang. Jiangshan Gardens? That was the most expensive residential complex in A City; a single apartment there started at fifty million. Even their own villa, located in a remote area, was only worth about five million. Qin Lian was very familiar with Jiangshan Gardens, as she had once visited, hoping to buy a large flat there. But with the Lin family’s annual business profit of only ten million, such a purchase was impossible.
"Who... who exactly are you?" Qin Lian stared at Weisheng Yan. But he didn't even acknowledge her.
The cars below drove away. Qin Lian looked at Lin Juan. "Third brother, you told me to stop talking earlier—do you know who this man is? What kind of background does he have to be able to live in Jiangshan Gardens? He’s probably just renting, right?"
"Chuangguang Group belongs to him." Lin Juan frowned, his expression grave. He couldn't wrap his head around it. Logically, a man like Weisheng Yan would have plenty of people currying favor with him, even if he didn't express any interest. If he weren't so terrifyingly cold-blooded, he could probably change partners every day. How could he possibly be interested in Lin Mo?
"Perhaps he's just playing around. With his status, he couldn't possibly be serious about Lin Mo."
Qin Lian considered this. She wasn't a fool; she knew exactly what kind of entity the Chuangguang Group was. Even if he were just playing around, he was still the president of a publicly listed group. Compared to Mu Bai, a second-generation heir who hadn't even inherited the family business yet, he was far superior.
"Lin Mo is truly heartless. She has connections with a man like this and doesn't even know how to help her own family. Hmph. That’s the Chuangguang Group! If they partnered with our Lin family, we could reach the stars."
Qin Lian seemed to have forgotten how she had just beaten Lin Mo. "I tell you, it was a waste of effort raising that animal. Our Lin family used to be prominent, if it weren't for your uncles..." Qin Lian felt a pang of sadness.
Lin Qinglang spoke up, "Mom, let’s hurry to the hospital to see Wanwan. Big brother said Wanwan needed four or five stitches in her head. She’s always been afraid of pain; who knows how much she’s suffering now that she’s awake."
"Sigh, let’s go and watch over her."
"Yes, yes." Qin Lian agreed. "My Wanwan is still in the hospital. I have plenty of time to deal with Lin Mo! She’s just a little slut, where could she possibly fly off to? Once Wanwan recovers, I'll have her enroll at A University."
Inside the car, Lin Mo’s complexion was ghastly. She clutched her stomach, her head resting unconsciously against Weisheng Yan’s side. Her brow was furrowed, her eyes tightly shut, and she murmured weakly, "So painful..."
Sun Wu, sitting in the passenger seat, witnessed this scene. "Boss, should we take her to the hospital?"
"No, call the doctor to come here." Weisheng Yan sat ramrod straight, allowing Lin Mo to lean against him. As a boss and an employee... he knew his concern for Lin Mo had crossed a boundary. Perhaps, he thought, it was just pity.
The city's neon lights blurred past the car windows. The girl’s pained murmurs, which he could not ignore, left him feeling strangely distracted.
"Does it really hurt that much?"
Lin Mo, naturally, could not answer him.
They arrived at Building 1 of Jiangshan Gardens and took the elevator to the top floor. The doctors were already waiting. The top-floor penthouse of Jiangshan Gardens, especially in Building 1, faced the river. Upon entering, one could see the massive floor-to-ceiling windows, with the entire river landscape in full view.
Weisheng Yan carried Lin Mo to the bed, and the doctors rushed to examine her.
"President, it appears to be a severe stomach ailment. Based on the examination, this is not a recent condition; it’s quite serious. If left untreated, within a few years, it could develop into stomach cancer, and then..."
Weisheng Yan’s brows knit together. "Then you will cure her."
