Forty-two. Snatching People from the Hospital
What is going on? Tong Zhenzhen opened her eyes and saw a snow-white ceiling. She turned her head and found herself lying on a bed, the air filled with the faint scent of disinfectant.
Is this a hospital? She blinked.
"Zhenzhen!" Qin Xiangyang's face came into view, full of anxiety.
Behind him, she saw her eldest aunt, whose eyes were red.
"I... wasn't I at the hotel?" She frowned.
"Zhenzhen, you fainted," her aunt said, pushing past Qin Xiangyang to stand at the front.
She tried to sit up, and her aunt immediately reached out to support her. Once seated, she cleared her mind and recalled the events. Unpleasant memories flooded her brain. It had indeed been a "spectacular" wedding.
But why had she become so weak? Fainting at every turn?
Seeing her lost in thought, her aunt assumed she was still heartbroken. She sat on the edge of the bed, stroked her back, and coaxed her gently, "Child, don't think too much. It's not worth being sad over that heartless Jun family. You have us. Grandfather and the others have gone to handle some business at the company and will be here shortly."
The Jun family? She finally realized that as the bride who had fainted, they should have come to check on her, shouldn't they? Yet, only Qin Xiangyang was in the room.
She glanced at Qin Xiangyang, who looked away in embarrassment.
Xiao Yang was probably ashamed on behalf of the Jun family. But what did that matter? Even her own husband, Jun Lengche, was not here. She gave a faint, bitter smile.
"Xiao Yang, I'm fine now. You should go back. Thank you." Thinking of Wen Xin's attitude, she didn't want to make things difficult for Qin Xiangyang. Furthermore, she didn't want to ruin their friendship.
Qin Xiangyang murmured, "It's okay. I'll stay with you a bit longer."
"No need! None of the people in your Jun family are any good! A wife faints, and her husband doesn't even know where he's run off to!" The outspoken aunt vented all her anger toward the Jun family on Qin Xiangyang.
"Aunt..." Tong Zhenzhen felt bad seeing Qin Xiangyang’s embarrassed expression and tried to stop her.
"I'm sorry," Qin Xiangyang apologized sincerely. He couldn't bear to see Tong Zhenzhen suffer the slightest grievance. When she fainted earlier, he had caught her in time. Seeing her pale and weak in his arms had felt like being stabbed multiple times.
At that moment, Long Tianyu had wanted to take her away. How could that be possible?
He had picked her up, run to the parking lot, and rushed her to the hospital. While she was unconscious, he felt as if he were being roasted on hot oil. Only now that she was awake could he set his heart at ease.
Just then, an argument erupted outside the door.
"Long Tianyu, get out of the way!"
"In your dreams! A-Qiang, go!"
Then came the sounds of a scuffle.
"Long Tianyu? That bastard is here too?" Tong Zhenzhen was startled and asked Qin Xiangyang.
Qin Xiangyang grew angry at the mention of the name. "Yes, he followed me here. He kept saying he wouldn't leave until he saw you were okay. No matter how we tried to drive him away, he wouldn't budge. He has his men guarding the door."
"Zhenzhen, what is your relationship with that man? Was he there to cause trouble on purpose today?" Her aunt added unhappily, "He looks so effeminate; he doesn't look like a good person at all!"
"He certainly isn't a good person!" However, Tong Zhenzhen had no time to deal with Long Tianyu, because she heard the voice of Jun Lengche.
Jun Lengche, you still have the nerve to show your face?!
"Xiao Yang, is he here too?" Tong Zhenzhen’s face turned icy; she wouldn't even say his name.
Qin Xiangyang guessed she meant Jun Lengche, as he had heard the argument as well. He nodded.
"Make him leave! I don't want to see him!" Tong Zhenzhen’s eyes were like a frozen lake—calm, yet radiating a bone-chilling cold.
"Alright." Qin Xiangyang walked toward the door.
Before he could open it, the door was pushed wide open. Jun Lengche strode in, followed by A-Qiang and Long Tianyu.
How exhausting! Had the wedding not been chaotic enough? They had to bring the drama to the hospital too!
"Don't come any closer!" Tong Zhenzhen pointed at Jun Lengche and said coldly.
Jun Lengche stopped and looked at her.
"Zhen'er, I'll chase him away for you," Long Tianyu said, walking over with a fawning expression.
"Don't you come any closer either!" Tong Zhenzhen swept a glance at Long Tianyu, her expression remaining frozen.
She then looked at Jun Lengche. "What did you come here for?"
"To take you home," Jun Lengche replied in a low voice.
"Home?" She laughed as if she had heard something ridiculous, laughing until she was doubled over and tears streamed down her face.
Everyone in the room was shocked. Her aunt hurried to support her shoulders. "Zhenzhen, what's wrong? Don't scare me! A person like him isn't worth getting angry over. Think of the child in your womb. The doctor said you shouldn't be too agitated."
Hearing her aunt mention the child, her heart softened, and she stopped laughing. She wiped away her tears and stared at Jun Lengche with piercing eyes. "Go home with you? On what grounds?"
"We are husband and wife," he replied.
"Is that so? Why didn't you think of that during the wedding?" She sneered.
"The patient earlier had MELAS syndrome. I was worried the emergency responders would treat it as a simple case of shock, so I rushed after them," Jun Lengche explained righteously, adding a final, "I'm sorry."
She pondered his words.
"What a benevolent doctor," Long Tianyu said with a sneer. "It seems that if it weren't for your first love, you would have abandoned your bride regardless."
Did bystanders see things more clearly? Tong Zhenzhen noticed that her aunt and Qin Xiangyang’s expressions were clearly swayed by Long Tianyu’s provocation. Regardless of whether it was a doctor's instinct, she remembered his tension and decisiveness in the hall. A sense of bitterness welled up in her heart.
"This is between my wife and me; you don't need to waste your breath!" Jun Lengche retorted sharply.
"You..." Long Tianyu glared at him fiercely.
Husband and wife? A fine thing to say. Tong Zhenzhen let out a mocking laugh.
"Zhenzhen, you should go home with Xiao Che." Another woman's voice came from the doorway, cold yet carrying an air of authority that could not be refused.
When she saw who it was, Tong Zhenzhen’s heart skipped a beat. It was Jun Lengche's aunt.
The aunt walked in and stopped right in front of her. "The Jun family failed you today. We will make it up to you. But you are husband and wife; you should be together."
After saying this, the aunt stepped forward and took her hand. The cold touch made her snap back to reality. What was wrong with her? Why was she acting like a jealous woman? Wasn't she by Jun Lengche's side for the sake of revenge?
The warning in the aunt's eyes made her realize she was being impulsive. It seemed the aunt had come specifically to remind her. She lowered her head, pondered for a moment, and said, "Fine. Let's go home."
Tong Zhenzhen’s change of heart shocked most of those present.
"Good girl." The aunt patted her hand gently, then stood up and said to Jun Lengche, "Xiao Che, take Zhenzhen home quickly and treat her well. Do you understand?"
Jun Lengche raised an eyebrow, finding the sudden turn of events rather strange. However, he acted quickly, walking over to pick up Tong Zhenzhen.
"Jun Lengche, your family bullied our Zhenzhen, and you think that's the end of it?" Her aunt was the first to object, trying to block his path.
"Aunt, he will give me an explanation," Tong Zhenzhen said, comforting her aunt in turn.
Although her aunt felt aggrieved for her, seeing that Tong Zhenzhen no longer cared, and knowing that she would have to live this life herself, she could only sigh. She then stood in front of Jun Lengche and said fiercely, "Boy, if you bully our Zhenzhen again, watch out—we will come to settle the score!"
"Understood," Jun Lengche replied, unexpectedly accepting the instruction obediently.
Then, Jun Lengche carried Tong Zhenzhen out of the hospital.
In the car, Tong Zhenzhen pursed her lips and remained silent. Jun Lengche glanced at her deeply before starting the engine.
Earlier at the hotel, he had discovered that Lin Mujin, who had fainted, had an irregular heartbeat and that the muscles in her left leg were significantly thinner than those in her right. He had deduced it was the rare MELAS syndrome, fearing that ordinary emergency staff would treat it as common shock and miss the golden window for treatment. That was why he had pursued them at all costs.
In the ambulance, he had used ice to cool her head and stimulate her skin, then performed CPR to revive her. But even after regaining consciousness, Lin Mujin remained very weak. Along the way, Long Tianyang had made sarcastic remarks, accusing him of using medicine as a pretext to get close to Lin Mujin. Annoyed by the noise, he had punched Long Tianyang in the nose. With a bloody nose, Long Tianyang finally had the sense to shut up.
After arriving at the hospital, he advised the attending physician on the cause of Lin Mujin’s condition. He had intended to rush back to the hotel, but a soldier with heart failure had arrived, so he had entered the operating room without a second thought. By the time the surgery was finished, it was already dark.
Before leaving, he went to check on Lin Mujin, not only to ensure she was fine but to resolve the questions in his heart. Although he hadn't been 100% committed during their relationship back then, he had been quite troubled by her sudden disappearance at the time. Slowly, he had moved on. He hadn't expected her to reappear in his life. Was it a coincidence, or was it orchestrated?
At the doorway, he happened to run into Long Tianyang. "Doctor Jun, don't just look after other people's wives. Your own wife almost miscarried; it’s a good thing my brother took her to the hospital," Long Tianyang had said, touching his nose with a malicious grin.
When he heard Tong Zhenzhen had a medical emergency, it felt like a blow to the head. "Which hospital?"
Long Tianyang had tried to play games, but seeing him raise his fist, he quickly answered, "Spring Hospital."
That was why he had rushed over. At the ward entrance, he had indeed seen Long Tianyu’s group, and inside, he had seen Qin Xiangyang.
This girl really knew how to attract people. Feeling a bit depressed, he just wanted to take her home.
Now, looking at her as she sat perfectly still, he felt a bit uneasy. What was she thinking?
