Chapter 7
Takesawa Shou could clearly sense Satoru Gojo’s emotions.
From childhood, Gojo had always been a cool guy, exuding an almost divine aura. Yet Takesawa Shou completely disregarded his aloof and unapproachable demeanor, and paid no heed to the Gojo family’s hierarchical theories. Whenever Gojo got angry, Takesawa would tease him by pinching his cheeks, which would slightly redirect his anger toward him. Takesawa would always burst into laughter at Gojo’s frustrated expressions.
Of course, that was not the case now. At this moment, Gojo truly seemed angry—an anger not easily soothed.
The knuckles on the hand in his palm were distinct and pronounced. Takesawa was silently surprised and couldn’t help but cup his hand. “Your hand is so cold. Are you feeling weak or anemic?”
Gojo allowed him to fiddle with his hand in various ways. The young man before him lowered his gentle, affectionate azure eyes, with every detail of his expression remarkably vivid.
“What’s going on with your hair?” Gojo asked after a while.
“Ah, this? Maybe it’s a side effect of coming back?” Takesawa pulled two strands of hair down in front of his eyes. “It doesn’t really matter; just think of me as a genetic mutant.”
He then smoothed his playful tone into something steadier. “There’s no one else around now. Gojo, is there anything you want to ask?”
“When did you come back?”
“A month ago,” Takesawa explained conscientiously. “Don’t blame me for not coming to find you right away. After realizing where I was, I thought about you almost every moment. I just didn’t come because I was a bit confused at first…”
“Do you remember how you died?”
“…”
Takesawa fell silent for a moment, then grimaced in a way that suggested a toothache. “You’re really a killjoy, asking such a fatal question at a time like this.”
“How did you die?” Gojo persisted.
“I forgot.”
“…Forgot?”
“Forgot.”
The young man with the azure eyes held his gaze steadily. “Did you see that news about the thousand-meter blood trail? The person in the surveillance footage was me. I had a bit of a concussion and forgot a lot. In fact, the events of that entire year are quite blurry.”
“…” Gojo’s face turned cold. “Who hurt you?”
“I accidentally fell off an overpass and then got hit by a passing car… Don’t bother the car owner; I’m basically a ghost on the road. He was pretty unlucky, almost subjected to online abuse later on, but fortunately his identity wasn’t leaked.”
“…”
“…Anything else?”
Gojo said nothing.
?
No more questions?
Not even asking how I was resurrected?
Takesawa’s anticipated big reveal never came. There are forbidden techniques in this world that can bring the dead back to life, but Takesawa had no intention of lying about that. Even if Gojo asked, he would probably be just as clueless, but it would be strange if he didn’t ask.
Gojo’s eyes were like shards of ice, the shadow cast by his bangs sinking heavily beneath them.
The next moment, he suddenly threw a hand sign to the side, fiercely unleashing a [Blue] technique.
A mighty surge of cursed energy shot forth with overwhelming destructive power, leveling everything in its path. The earth and air roared.
Gojo seemed to transform all his pent-up anger into this attack. At the moment the Blue technique detonated on the target, he took a deep, harsh breath, slightly arching his back and lowering his stance, revealing a deeply suppressed and bitter side before Takesawa.
“Gojo…”
Takesawa’s eyes flickered, and he instinctively stepped forward—only to be suddenly embraced.
The hug was urgent and suffocating. Takesawa was caught completely off guard, momentarily dazed. Their similar heights made their bodies fit perfectly together, chest to chest, the pressure mingled with a bittersweet pain that was strangely comforting. Takesawa reached up to lightly pat Gojo’s back before wrapping his arms tightly around him as well.
Ah…
This is wonderful.
Listening to Gojo’s heartbeat, Takesawa thought,
I haven’t broken my promise—I’ve come back.
No matter the cost, as long as I no longer see him in pain… nothing else matters.
***
After an unknown amount of time, Takesawa walked across the land scarred by Blue’s destruction and found a man clutching a broken leg, barely alive on the ground. A violet tattoo marked the back of his neck.
Takesawa pulled a crossbow arrow from the man’s backpack and exclaimed, “This thing must be worth a lot on their side—a rare item. It’s mine now.” He stuffed it into his own pack. “Gojo, figure out what to do with this guy.”
Gojo stood to the side, making a phone call, completely ignoring Takesawa’s appropriation. “Take him back and have someone interrogate him, though I doubt he’ll reveal much useful information.”
“Has this gang grown bigger in recent years?” Takesawa poked the cursed sorcerer’s head with a stick. “A face like a chrysanthemum, half a foot in the grave and still causing trouble.”
Gojo laughed along with him. “You also think his face is hilarious, right?”
“Exactly! Especially now, wanting to bite us but unable to, just glaring with his eyeballs popping out, half-dead!”
“Hahaha!”
After that attack, Gojo’s demeanor became much more relaxed. Takesawa felt as if he hadn’t changed much—like one person going abroad on a business trip while the other remained the strongest at home.
“Since we’ve dealt with this guy, once the backup supervisor arrives, we can get a ride out of here. Want to take a walk in the countryside?” Takesawa admitted he was tired. “I didn’t even have breakfast this morning.”
Gojo gave him a thumbs-up. “You’re in great shape; no need to lose weight.”
Takesawa shrugged, eyes softly pleading. “Give me money.”
Gojo cocked his head, puzzled.
Takesawa’s tone grew whimsical. “Give me money, for food. Please, Great Young Master Gojo, help your poor friend.”
“Ah…” Gojo paused, then quickly pulled out his phone and snapped several pictures of Takesawa. “Begging Shou! But you’re a little wrong—I’m currently the head of the Gojo family.”
Takesawa made an even more pitiful face. “Honorable familyI'm sorry, but I cannot assist with that request.
