Chapter 44: Life Is Truly Unpredictable!

Yu Xiaogang did not look particularly pleased, but he said nothing.

He thought that perhaps Liu Erlong simply felt sorry for Xu Yan.

After all, Xu Yan had once said that he had no one to rely on in this world.

Perhaps Liu Erlong’s maternal instincts had gotten the better of her, leading her to show Xu Yan an unusual degree of concern.

He silently turned and left.

Qin Ming also glanced back at Xu Yan, who was surrounded by the three women, and could only shake his head helplessly.

There was nothing he could do. Perhaps this would make Xu Yan feel more at home at Shrek, as though someone truly cared about him.

With that thought, he followed Yu Xiaogang away.

Tang San silently watched Yu Xiaogang leave. Something about the scene felt wrong to him.

Still, he did not know what to say.

He trusted Aunt Erlong. She was probably only sympathizing with Xu Yan.

Being surrounded like this made Xu Yan feel rather embarrassed.

It reminded him of the times at school when, after playing basketball, several girls who admired him would come over to ask whether he was tired or thirsty.

“I’m fine.” Xu Yan shook his head. “I’ll head back first.”

He left alone.

This attempt to stir up resentment had already succeeded halfway.

At the very least, he could almost hear Oscar’s heart shattering.

He had originally thought Tang San was the most simple-minded of them all, but judging from the past few days, that wretch was still fairly clearheaded.

Perhaps he had merely lost his composure that night. After Yu Xiaogang reprimanded him, he had grown wiser and no longer dared to act recklessly.

Oscar had deliberately provoked Ma Hongjun into causing trouble for Xu Yan, only to be thoroughly humiliated in return.

Although Xu Yan claimed he did not hold grudges, he could still disgust Oscar through his actions.

Nothing would trouble a man more than seeing the goddess he loved fall for someone else.

He would steal Oscar’s place and see how smug he could remain.

Ning Rongrong and Jiangzhu watched Xu Yan leave, their faces filled with disappointment.

Liu Erlong barked, “What are you all standing around for? Continue training!”

Several people sighed gloomily.

As the central figure of the group, Tang San naturally had enough influence to rally everyone together and resume their training.

Xu Yan, meanwhile, returned alone.

Liu Erlong quickly followed him.

Xu Yan glanced back at Liu Erlong. “Why are you following me?”

“What? Am I not allowed to show a little concern for you?” Liu Erlong asked with a smile.

“Er... I suppose you are.” Xu Yan did not refuse, but he quickened his pace.

He had thought that the Sparkle Sparkle, Fall for Me effect would not work particularly well on a woman like Liu Erlong.

Yet now, it seemed that her reaction was even more intense than Ning Rongrong’s or Jiangzhu’s.

As the saying went, a woman in her forties was as fierce as a tiger.

Xu Yan could already see the flush on her face and the unmistakable desire in her eyes. He began to feel genuinely uneasy.

“Well... I still have something to do, so I’ll be leaving first.”

With that, Xu Yan hurried away.

Watching him vanish in a flash, Liu Erlong’s lips curved upward. She found the little fellow more adorable by the day.

She did not follow him. Instead, she turned and walked in another direction.

Xu Yan rushed to the bathhouse and took a long, comfortable cold shower.

The cold water hissed against his body, as though it were cooling a piece of red-hot iron. Steam filled the air.

After several days of cultivation, he felt that his body had become as strong as a fortress.

He was young, muscular, and healthy-looking. He was almost becoming infatuated with his own physique.

Once he had finished washing, Xu Yan returned to his quarters.

He pushed open the door and closed it behind him. Then he saw someone reclining lazily on his bed.

When he recognized Liu Erlong, his eyes widened.

With a captivating smile, Liu Erlong curled one finger toward him.

“Why are you here?” Xu Yan asked in astonishment.

“What? You don’t welcome me?” Liu Erlong said. “Come here.”

Xu Yan hastily took a step back. What was this woman planning? In broad daylight, no less...

“Don’t even think about leaving.”

Liu Erlong flashed forward.

When Xu Yan turned around, he felt a chill run down his back. A pair of crimson eyes, almost devilish in their intensity, stared straight at him.

Before he could react, Liu Erlong pulled him toward her and kissed him.

The sudden passion left him utterly bewildered. Before long, she had pushed him down onto the bed.

Xu Yan was stunned. Something about this situation was seriously wrong.

“Yuhao, I simply like you,” Liu Erlong said. “Today, you’re going to stay with me.”

“I’ll take the lead.”

“Fine,” Liu Erlong replied with a gentle laugh.

An hour later, the two of them sat together drinking tea.

Liu Erlong reached out and wiped the sweat from Xu Yan’s brow. Looking thoroughly satisfied, she said, “You poor little thing. Look how exhausted you are.”

“Aren’t you afraid Yu Xiaogang will find out?” Xu Yan asked.

“Why should I be afraid of him? My heart belongs to you now.” Liu Erlong smiled tenderly.

“This was the first time for both of us...” Xu Yan clenched his fists.

“Little thing, judging by how experienced you seemed, I doubt it was your first time. Still, I may as well tell you that it was my first time too.” As Liu Erlong said this, her cheeks flushed, and she looked somewhat shy.

“You and Yu Xiaogang?” Xu Yan’s eyes widened.

“What are you thinking? We have always been completely innocent!” Liu Erlong immediately became displeased.

Xu Yan smiled. Although she was a little more mature than he had expected, he had not suffered any loss.

After all, this had not been his first time.

He had originally intended to save that experience for Hu Liena or Qian Renxue, but he had never imagined that his aunt would claim it instead.

“I should go. I have stayed too long, and someone might become suspicious.” Liu Erlong rose to leave, then turned her face toward Xu Yan. “Little thing, this must remain a secret known only to Heaven, Earth, you, and me.”

She looked completely satisfied. Even her manner and bearing seemed different now.

“Mm,” Xu Yan answered, making no attempt to stop her.

When Liu Erlong opened the door, she looked carefully in both directions before slipping out.

The guilty look of someone sneaking around made Xu Yan raise an eyebrow.

Was there something especially thrilling about a secret affair?

Thinking of this, Xu Yan sighed, “Life is truly unpredictable. You never know what absurd twists it may bring.”

When Liu Erlong returned to her quarters, she happened to find Yu Xiaogang waiting there.

“Erlong, where have you been?” Yu Xiaogang asked.

“Do I need to report my whereabouts to you?”

Liu Erlong looked at him with undisguised annoyance, leaving him completely stunned.

“I...”

Liu Erlong went straight into her room. Yu Xiaogang tried to follow.

“Get out. I’m tired and want to rest for a while. Whatever it is, we’ll discuss it tomorrow.”

Without the slightest hesitation, Liu Erlong slammed the door shut.

Yu Xiaogang opened his mouth, then closed it again. He stared at the tightly shut door, utterly bewildered.

What had just happened?

He could only leave in a daze.

Back in her room, Liu Erlong wore a blissful smile.
