Chapter 19: Fourth Prince Xue Beng’s Avalanche, Poison Douluo Dugu Bo Appears!

After arriving at the church, everything proceeded as usual.

Xu Yan sat before his harp.

Tang Yuehua, who taught the harp, explained how to control one’s state of mind.

Xu Yan, however, was thinking about his own affairs.

What Tang Yuehua taught also allowed him to use the Sacred Heart Formula with greater proficiency.

The Heavenly Palace Phantasm was another powerful trump card of his—a spiritual-force attack.

Moreover, some of the abilities of the Heavenly Palace Phantasm and the Reincarnation Eye could be combined.

In its blue form, the Reincarnation Eye could use spiritual power to read the information in another person’s mind. That ability could be put to some use.

Under Tang Yuehua’s instruction, all the students began playing their harps, and beautiful music rose and fell throughout the hall.

Tang Yuehua sat before her own harp, occasionally glancing at Xu Yan.

Unlike some of the less diligent students, Xu Yan played with great concentration.

A smile appeared on Tang Yuehua’s face.

After the day’s lessons ended, Xu Yan sat meditating beside a pool.

Tang Yuehua seemed to be discussing something with Xue Ke.

From time to time, Xue Ke glanced toward Xu Yan.

Just then, a man from Moon Pavilion approached and said, “Young Master.”

His name was Aud. He was the steward and one of Tang Yuehua’s people. Although he knew Xu Yan’s identity as the young master of Moon Pavilion—the title Tang Yuehua had given him—he was not entirely convinced of Xu Yan.

When Xu Yan had first arrived at Moon Pavilion, Aud had not been present. Otherwise, he would never have allowed Xu Yan to enter.

He was a Soul Emperor of the sixtieth level, and his martial soul was the Ghost King Vine.

Xu Yan looked at him and rose to his feet. “Steward Aud, what is it?”

“Someone outside wishes to see you.” Aud’s expression was calm, even somewhat cold.

Xu Yan was puzzled. Who had come all the way here to see him?

Could it be Ghost Douluo?

Impossible. The people of Moon Pavilion did not welcome members of the Spirit Hall, and Ghost Douluo would not reveal himself so easily.

Besides, his purpose in coming here was to keep watch over Xu Yan. There was no need for him to expose himself.

“Who?” Xu Yan asked.

“Prince Xue Beng,” Aud replied indifferently.

When Xu Yan heard that, he realized it was the fourth prince of the Heaven Dou Empire. What could he possibly want with him?

“Lead the way,” Xu Yan said.

Aud then led Xu Yan away.

After Xue Ke finished speaking with Tang Yuehua, she turned around and looked toward Xu Yan’s previous location, only to find that he was gone.

Seeing the panic on Xue Ke’s face, Tang Yuehua asked, “Princess, what happened?”

“Oh, Teacher, it’s nothing.” Xue Ke said, “I still have something to do, so I’ll be leaving first.”

With that, Xue Ke hurried out.

Tang Yuehua also looked toward the place where Xu Yan had been sitting and saw that he was no longer there.

She knew that Xue Ke cared deeply about Xu Yan and was very concerned about him.

For some reason, however, Tang Yuehua felt a faint discomfort in her heart.

She said nothing and turned away.

Following Aud, Xu Yan arrived at a secluded place outside Moon Pavilion.

Beneath a large tree not far away stood a figure dressed in luxurious clothes.

Several Soul Masters stood beside him, clearly there to protect him.

Xu Yan walked over and said, “Steward Aud, I’ll go over by myself.”

Aud nodded. His eyes narrowed slightly as he sensed the presence of an expert hidden somewhere nearby.

Xu Yan approached and looked at Xue Beng’s back. He could not help wondering why Xue Beng suddenly wanted to meet him when they had never had any dealings with each other.

“I greet Your Highness, Prince Xue Beng,” Xu Yan said, bowing.

Xue Beng turned around. His face was fierce, and he wore an overbearing expression.

“So you’re Xu Yan, the young master of Moon Pavilion?”

“That’s me.” Xu Yan knew that this fellow was pretending to be a spoiled, foolish wastrel in order to conceal his true nature.

If Xue Beng had behaved normally and shown intelligence, Xue Qinghe would probably have killed him long ago.

“I’m warning you. Stay away from Xue Ke, or you’ll bear the consequences.” Xue Beng’s voice was cold.

As he spoke, he poked Xu Yan in the shoulder with one finger.

Xu Yan frowned slightly. This fellow clearly needed to be taught a lesson.

At present, Emperor Xue Ye had only two children left by his side: Xue Beng and Xue Ke. Xue Qinghe was actually Qian Renxue in disguise.

Although Xue Beng remained outwardly respectful toward Xue Qinghe, he knew about Xue Qinghe’s ambitions and therefore cared deeply about his younger sister, Xue Ke.

Some time ago, he had heard that Xue Ke had recently become infatuated with Xu Yan, the young master of Moon Pavilion, and had grown somewhat angry.

In truth, he also wanted to use this incident to appear overbearing and foolish—a good-for-nothing who was always looking for trouble.

After all, the master of Moon Pavilion had an excellent relationship with the imperial family. Even Xue Qinghe treated Tang Yuehua with respect.

Xue Beng knew this perfectly well, yet that was precisely why he dared to behave recklessly.

What he wanted was for others to think: Look at what an idiot I am. Xue Qinghe, don’t take me seriously.

I’m nothing but a useless fool, incapable of achieving anything.

“Fourth Prince, I respect you as a prince, but don’t put your hands on me. Otherwise, I may lose my temper.” Xu Yan did not care about any of that. Once provoked, he would not hold back.

Any problem could be solved with one swing of a staff. If one swing was not enough, then two would do.

And if necessary, he could keep swinging.

Eventually, the problem would be solved.

Xue Beng was a Soul Ancestor of the forty-third level. He was not particularly outstanding, but neither was he completely useless.

Compared with his peers, many genius Soul Masters could defeat him with ease, but he was not utterly without merit.

“How dare you! You’re nothing but a lowly wretch, yet you actually dare to covet someone high above the clouds. Do you know how noble Xue Ke’s status is? Do you really think someone like you can lay claim to her?” Xue Beng spoke with an utterly unreasonable expression.

Aud watched from the side. He knew that Xue Beng intended to cause trouble for Xu Yan, so he simply waited to enjoy the spectacle.

He had ordered his men to stop anyone who tried to come out, ensuring that no one could rush over to help.

Ghost Douluo had actually been watching from the shadows. He noticed another figure standing in the distance.

It was Dugu Bo, the Titled Douluo known as Poison Douluo.

Ghost Douluo knew that Dugu Bo had some connection with the imperial family of the Heaven Dou Empire, but he had not expected Dugu Bo to come secretly protect Xue Beng.

As a trusted subordinate of Prince Xue Xing, Dugu Bo was merely taking advantage of the opportunity to protect Xue Beng.

Ghost Douluo, however, did not know that.

“Prince Xue Beng, I know you’re only pretending. Say one more word, and I’ll have Xue Qinghe kill you.” Xu Yan spoke quietly into Xue Beng’s ear.

Upon hearing this, Xue Beng’s spirit jolted. He retreated a step and pointed at Xu Yan.

“You…”

“Your Highness, what happened?” the two Soul Masters hurriedly asked.

Xue Beng was flustered and immediately shouted, “Kill him! Kill him!”

“He wants to kill me! I’m a prince! He wants to kill me!” Xue Beng’s heart began to panic.

“Protect His Highness!”

The two Soul Masters immediately stepped in front of Xue Beng.

They released their martial souls at once and prepared to attack Xu Yan.

Ghost Douluo watched the two Soul Masters move against Xu Yan, his expression utterly calm.

He very much wanted to see what Xu Yan was truly capable of.

Xu Yan rolled his shoulders and flexed his limbs. He had not moved around in quite some time, so this was the perfect chance to practice.

He clenched one hand.

The Golden-Hooped Staff spun as it grew larger, appearing in his grasp.

“Time to stretch a little.” Xu Yan held the Golden-Hooped Staff in one hand and pointed it toward the two Soul Masters.
