Chapter 59: The Arrival of the Instructors

Xu Qiao’s platoon had rested for two days, but that wasn’t the case for every platoon.

The wire platoon next door had poor training results over the previous few days. Seeing that the instructor team was about to arrive, they truly hadn’t made any noticeable progress in a single category.

Consequently, they didn’t dare to rest over the past two days, even stepping up their practice every single day.

Yet, whether people rested or engaged in extra training, nothing could hold back the arrival of the instructor team.

Still, Xu Qiao never expected they would arrive in this manner.

It was the dead of night, the sky still pitch black, when the whistle for an emergency assembly sounded once more.

Having learned their lesson from before, no one sat around in a daze. Even before the whistle stopped blowing, everyone sprang to their feet.

When Xu Qiao heard the whistle, although she wasn't the absolute first to react, her speed in getting dressed and packing her rucksack was lightning fast, making her the first one to rush out.

As she ran, she called back, "Hurry up, you guys! It definitely isn't the company commander today!"

"Why are you so fast? Wait for us!" Cheng Yifei had just finished putting on her clothes when she saw Xu Qiao already sprinting out.

While the people behind were still in a panic, Xu Qiao had already charged out and arrived at the assembly training ground.

When everyone else finally emerged, it was fortunate they didn't look like a mob of deserters anymore; at least they were neatly dressed, and their equipment was fully packed.

At that moment, all eyes turned toward them.

Seeing them like this, the company commander breathed a sigh of relief—at least they hadn't exposed their most disheveled side.

Out on the training ground, the company commander was still standing there, but by his side stood several unfamiliar faces instead of Guan Yuqi.

It was the company commander who stepped forward first. "Two days ago, we received orders that a formal reorganization of our regiment will take place."

As soon as the company commander finished speaking, the five strangers finally showed some expression.

The company commander gestured to the people behind him. "The ones standing right before you now are the instructors who have come to our company. In the days ahead, they will be personally responsible for training us in every single aspect."

As he spoke, he glanced at the few of them. Seeing them nod, he stepped aside.

The lead officer stepped forward. "Hello everyone, I am Jiang Liu, the chief instructor in charge of the communications company training. The people behind me each have their own areas of expertise."

Three men and two women, wearing camouflage completely different from theirs, stood there with sharp gazes that exuded natural authority without even needing to show anger.

Jiang Liu ignored their expressions, though he noticed the shocked looks on the faces of the crowd below.

The youngest woman among them already held the rank of lieutenant, and she wore an equally stern expression. "I am Xu Xinyan, your instructor for firearms and communications equipment operation."

Another girl who looked somewhat similar to her spoke up in a loud voice as well, "I am Xu Wenyu, and I am in charge of your hand-to-hand combat training."

The next one was a tall male lieutenant who looked slightly more mature than the two girls behind him, yet he served merely as their assistant.

"I am Chen Chen, and I am your tactics instructor."

Finally, the tall male lieutenant stepped forward. "I am Shen Nian, their assistant and also the political instructor for this training camp. If you have any issues, you can come to find me."

Compared to the last time, although the trainees were faster, they weren't much better off.

Jiang Liu wanted precisely this effect. He swept his gaze across them once more and said, "To be honest, your performance today is better than I expected. At least you didn't look like a pack of pathetic deserters."

He paused, then added, "However, that alone is not enough. Although you are communications soldiers, you are communications soldiers of a field army. You must not only possess technical skills, but combat capabilities as well."

"From physical training, combat training, firearms training, to even tactical and operational training—every single person must participate in all of them."

"And the training time starts right now!"

Hearing this, someone in the ranks couldn't help but cry out, "Elimination?"

Jiang Liu merely sneered. "What, do you think it's too long?"

"I can guarantee that these six months will make your days exceptionally fulfilling."

This was a guarantee they could all do without; right now, they could already imagine how miserable these six months were going to be.

For a moment, whispers broke out across the ranks, filled with a growing sense of anxiety.

Not even the company commander had expected this. He had thought it would last a month or two at most, or at worst, a repetition of recruit training, but he never anticipated a full half year.

Hearing "half a year" made everyone freeze in place.

"Over the coming days, we will train all of you. We will use a period of half a year to overhaul the entire communications company."

"Therefore, the requirement for you is to be just like a field combat unit—not just in emergency assemblies, but in every other aspect as well."

Shen Nian pulled out a document. "This is our training plan for the next six months."

"As for where people go after being eliminated, we aren't certain yet. It's possible... they'll be sent to logistics departments, or places that don't require such high technical skills, or even... stripping off their military uniforms and leaving the army!"

This single remark made everyone gasp audibly.

Other departments weren't necessarily bad, but being cast out like this meant losing all face, not to mention the possibility of being forced out of the military entirely.

Perhaps not expecting the very first person to run out to be a female soldier, they all wore a trace of surprise as they cast assessing glances at her.

As Xu Qiao looked back at them, the instructors were also studying her.

Wanting to speak, she instinctively opened her mouth, but the moment she remembered she was under evaluation, she immediately swallowed her words back down.

"Furthermore, the entire company will be ranked. There will be a weekly summary, and the bottom ten individuals will have their names recorded, accounting for fifty percent of the total score."

"The remaining fifty will be ranked based on the final overall test. Combined together, anyone who ranks last in any individual category or in the overall comprehensive ranking will be eliminated."

Seeing their reactions, the company commander felt a wave of relief. At least they hadn't exposed their most disgraceful side.

Shen Nian paid no heed to their reactions and continued, "However, you don't need to worry too much. Our training won't target you using reconnaissance soldier standards right from the start."

As his voice trailed off, the instructors behind him stepped forward.

"Considering that we do not yet have a full understanding of your actual capabilities, we will conduct an initial assessment during the first week."

"Based on the test results, we will formulate a training plan tailored to you."

"Regardless of what kind of training plan it is, the ultimate goal remains the exact same."
