Chapter 45 (Backup): We Acknowledge
Chapter 45 (Backup) Our Acknowledgment
Upon realizing she could intercept these communications, she attempted to decipher their content.
If it were a bunch of unfamiliar messages, it would indeed be quite difficult to crack, but since these belonged to her own unit, it was comparatively much simpler.
Although she hadn't formally studied the code phrases and frequency usage yet, after memorizing everything, she noticed there was a pattern.
By manipulating these patterns, she could easily decode the communications.
Xu Qiao knew this wasn’t because she was exceptionally skilled; it was simply that she had preemptively taught herself how to use the signaling codes.
True decryption, without the aid of code phrases, would be a different matter altogether.
Even so, this was enough to excite her.
However, when she read the decoded message before her eyes, she instantly lost her composure. “They’re going to implement corrections so soon?”
It turned out this message was nothing else but a notification for their regiment.
Following the last exercise, the entire regiment’s combat effectiveness was deemed far too weak, failing not only to demonstrate their proper combat capabilities but even dragging down the Red Team’s efforts.
Guan Yuqi was unbothered and remarked plainly, “If it’s received, it’s received. Isn’t this exactly what you’ve been training for?”
It was unusual to suddenly be punished again, so everyone gathered around to watch.
Though the guard company bore some responsibility for being caught off guard during the last exercise, had their own combat strength been sufficient, they wouldn’t have been so easily wiped out.
Now, with the focus on strengthening their military training, their capabilities would be enhanced as well, so they wouldn’t have to rely on comrades for protection when facing the enemy, powerless to retaliate.
Busy, she stopped the would-be speaker. “No, you write it yourself. We’re just here for the show.”
“I… accidentally stumbled onto their channel during training,” Xu Qiao explained awkwardly. “Squad leader, I really didn’t mean to…”
So a rectification was inevitable. Still, even so, Xu Qiao was surprised that the corrections would begin with military training.
Upon hearing this, Xu Qiao laughed and put down her pen, “Fine, I’ll be waiting for you.”
She had already sensed something odd when she stopped everyone earlier, and now this sudden comment made them glance first at Cheng Yifei, then back at Xu Qiao.
Just as they opened their mouths to explain, they saw the solemn look on her face, and the words caught in their throats.
Hearing her surprise, Xu Qiao sighed helplessly, “Although I’m really looking forward to the military training, isn’t it strange to suddenly have only military training?”
Guan Yuqi hesitated. “That might be possible, but to bring our people up to the level of the field army…”
Hearing this, Guan Yuqi looked over in astonishment. “How did you receive the regiment’s telegram?”
If not for Squad Leader Wu and Xu Qiao’s subsequent efforts, things might have been even worse.
Guan Yuqi looked at her helplessly, never imagining that her training would allow her to intercept other information.
Xu Qiao felt a bit embarrassed. “It seems this wasn’t meant for us, but for the regiment headquarters. Still, it looks like it’s related to us.”
Given the situation, could they really be training them as part of the field army?
That thought struck Xu Qiao suddenly. “Maybe they think we’re part of the field army and should have a certain combat capability…”
After all, she hadn’t been scolded or punished for a long time.
“Yeah, it’s targeted at us,” Guan Yuqi sighed deeply. Yet when she read the content, she was stunned. “Why start by adjusting combat capabilities? We’re a technical unit.”
“Hey, why is the secrecy regulation copied in here too?” Cheng Yifei teased, glancing at her. “What did you do to get the squad leader involved?”
Picking up the decrypted telegram, she stood and hurried back to the squad. Seeing Guan Yuqi just stepping out, she went straight over. “Squad leader, today… I received a telegram on the simulator.”
Some instinctively tried to accept it, but they hadn’t fallen for Xu Qiao’s tricks before—Cheng Yifei had.
When they took it, their expressions changed immediately. “A rectification notice?”
Guan Yuqi wanted to say more, but upon looking at her, suddenly realized something. “No, you’re working on this now… How well do you know the secrecy regulations? Go back and copy them ten times, no… fifty times.”
Although the communications company did need combat capability, this seemed a bit over the top.
But as strange as it seemed, once she came to her senses, she realized something.
Cheng Yifei was momentarily stunned but didn’t get angry. Instead, she enjoyed the spectacle. “Your handwriting isn’t bad. Have you practiced?”
Xu Qiao shrugged off the comment. “If you have the skill, bring a brush pen and I’ll write it for you.”
“Sister Cheng, come on, you’re clearly bluffing. You don’t dare bet, do you?” Someone saw her falter and immediately retorted. “I can get a brush pen—just wait. I don’t believe you can actually write it.”
Xu Qiao knew what they were worried about. This bunch fiddled with computers, networks, and radios every day, yet none of them had ever fired a gun here.
She looked up at them. “How about a bet? If I can write it, you guys copy it fifty times for me.”
Without looking up, Xu Qiao said, “Since I’ve already copied the secrecy regulations, why would I tell you?”
Indeed, no matter what, they were just a technical unit and it was unrealistic for them to actually go into battle.
“Of course, this penmanship isn’t quite good enough. A small regular script with a brush pen would look even better.” Xu Qiao was not shy about boasting.
She didn’t know that Guan Yuqi had already turned to find the company commander, so she went back to get paper and pen to start copying the secrecy regulations.
Everyone burst out laughing. “Yo, yo, yo, you really can talk big.”
“Han Yuqi, don’t say I didn’t warn you,” Cheng Yifei whispered nearby.
The others, unaware of the situation, looked on curiously.
Xu Qiao nodded. “This seems to be aimed at us, right?”
Xu Qiao suddenly froze. They had just been analyzing together, and now they were being punished again?
Though she deliberately lowered her voice, others could still hear.
At this moment, Xu Qiao stopped writing and smiled harmlessly. “I don’t mind.”
Just as Han Yuqi was about to turn away, she remembered something and stopped, looking at Xu Qiao. “Wait, we only agreed on what happens if you win. What if you lose?”
“I’ll wash your clothes for a week,” Xu Qiao said, meaning everyone’s clothes for an entire week.
This time not only Han Yuqi laughed, but the others also burst out laughing. “Alright then, it’s a deal. But just being able to write isn’t enough—you have to be acknowledged by all of us as neat and beautiful.”
