Chapter 47: Revealed to the World
"Hey?" Zhao Ziqian stopped in his tracks and nudged the dumbfounded Zhu Yansheng with his foot. "What are you daydreaming about? Is Chen Jing here?"
"He's here!" Zhu Yansheng covered his face with both hands, rubbing them hard. Peering through his fingers, he said in a deep voice, "You idiot!"
"Hmm?" Speak your mind, stop stammering.
"Let's go to the Dean's Office." The sky was clear with a gentle breeze, and he felt energetic and in top condition. How on earth could he be experiencing auditory hallucinations?
"Go to the Dean's Office?" Didn't you say we were coming to attend a school event?
"I need to verify something!" Facts speak louder than words, but he—he just couldn't believe it.
"Verify?" What on earth did Chen Jing say to leave him in this state?
"Hurry up!" Zhu Yansheng grabbed Zhao Ziqian and ran back the way they came.
After running for a distance, Zhao Ziqian slowed down and shook off Zhu Yansheng's hand. "Stinky fox, what are you playing at?"
"Idiot, shh—" Zhu Yansheng pressed a forefinger to his lips, making a silencing gesture.
They crept stealthily up to the window of the Dean's office, peeked inside, and immediately shrank back, covering their mouths with twisted expressions. Before Zhao Ziqian could ask what was going on, he was dragged straight to the door of the Dean's office.
Chu Yitong glanced at the two people beside her. Just moments ago, they had suddenly appeared in the office, inexplicably tearing through Teacher Wu's defenses and rescuing her from the wolf's claws. But from the moment they stepped outside until now, ten whole minutes had passed, and they had maintained blank expressions, staring fixedly at her.
"Something the matter?" Since they had helped her escape from old Wu's tormenting voice, it could be considered a good deed, so she didn't mind asking.
"You—you can speak?" Zhao Ziqian pointed a finger at her, his eyes wide with horror and disbelief.
This person looked somewhat familiar, and her voice sounded familiar too. Tilting her head, she took a closer look—very familiar, though she couldn't quite place it. After a moment of thought, she replied, "I can."
"You—you aren't slow-witted?" Zhu Yansheng followed closely behind, pressing the question.
"I am." Chu Yitong lowered her eyelids, her delicate face calm as still water, betraying not the slightest hint of emotion.
"Slow-witted?" Who calls themselves slow-witted? Could she actually be mentally deficient? She must be taking him for a fool! A slender glint flashed across his eyes as he grinned. "I'm Zhu Yansheng, and this is Zhao Ziqian. We're Chen Jing's friends."
"Oh, thank you!" Since they were his friends, logically they should have already graduated! Why were they still at school?
"What are you to Chen Jing?" Zhu Yansheng glanced at Zhao Ziqian, who had remained silent all this time. The idiot was acting strange, but attending to the main business was more important.
"Didn't he say?" Crystal-clear eyes stared at him with a trace of confusion, her expression innocent.
"Ahem!" Zhu Yansheng made a fist, placed it against his mouth, coughed lightly, and let his gaze wander. "Well, he mentioned it. I was just asking casually, just asking casually."
"Oh, should I leave first then?" Chu Yitong was pondering whether she should continue today's classes. She felt herself becoming increasingly strange; she could understand the textbook knowledge and the teachers' lectures effortlessly without even trying. She...
"Not waiting for Chen Jing?" The good show hadn't even started yet; how could they let her leave? Absolutely not!
"He's here?" That fast? Actually, that phone call didn't necessarily have to be made, but upon hearing the word "guardian," a mischievous impulse had seized her.
"That's right, he'll be here in about ten minutes." Zhu Yansheng glanced at his watch, smiling broadly. Such an interesting event must not be missed under any circumstances!
"Alright!" Then she would go back to the classroom for class; that was better than standing here waiting idly. She nodded at them and turned to walk toward the classroom.
"What... what does she mean?" Zhu Yansheng nudged Zhao Ziqian, completely baffled. "Idiot, why did she just walk away?"
