Chapter 23: This Girl Is Quite Fierce
Many of the junior high students were still buzzing with excitement, clearly the type to enjoy the chaos without fear of trouble.
The two friends of the boy had also realized what was happening, and as one of them turned around, he took a hit to the head. Since he had already started the fight, Li Jingkun knew better than to wait for them to recover. He quickly followed up with a punch and a kick to the second individual, trying to knock him away.
Song Hairong was a novice and was still wearing his skates, which put him at a disadvantage; he had been held by the three of them earlier as they tried to drag him off. But Li Jingkun wasn't intimidated. He wanted to resolve the matter cleanly and decisively so that no one would dare bother them again. After all, there were plenty of other fun places to go; why insist on this one? Other skating rinks were just as good.
However, Li Jingkun didn't manage to kick the second boy away this time because the boy was clutching Song Hairong’s arm, causing both of them to tumble to the ground. Over there, Song Hairong began brawling with the third boy after falling.
Li Jingkun didn't join the scuffle immediately; instead, he went over to unlace Song Hairong’s skates.
In this life and the last, Li Jingkun hadn't been in many fights. He remembered once going fishing in a river with his desk mate. After trying several spots without a bite, they followed the river further and further until they reached the territory of a neighboring village. They ended up getting beaten by a few older boys from that village.
"Do you have any idea who so-and-so is in our village? He got beaten just for stealing a few oranges from your village!"
The sense of humiliation back then had been profound and left a deep impression. For a long time afterward, he became obsessed with physical training and even martial arts, all for the sake of one day getting his revenge. Although he didn't stick with many of those things later on, he had learned enough about human anatomy to know which areas to strike to inflict maximum pain and temporary incapacitation without causing lasting damage.
With that foundation, combined with his current adult mindset, these few high schoolers were no match for him. Furthermore, Song Hairong had managed to get his skates off, while the three opponents were still wearing theirs, making it impossible for them to fight effectively.
Li Jingkun’s goal wasn't to beat them into a pulp; he just wanted to avoid getting hurt and make a clean getaway, as he knew the rink’s staff would be over to break them up soon. So, he and Song Hairong quickly knocked the three of them to the ground and scrambled out.

Song Hairong didn't have time to change his shoes, so they both ran out barefoot. Naturally, the going was rough, and they complained about their aching feet as they ran. But after a few quick steps, they both burst into laughter.
Song Hairong wasn't as lucky as Li Jingkun; he had several bruises and was still in pain.
"Let’s wait for them here," Li Jingkun said.
"Are you sure? They won't come chasing after us, will they?" Song Hairong asked.
"It’s fine. Unless they have other friends, those three wouldn't dare chase us," Li Jingkun replied.
"Why haven't Honglang and the others come out yet? You don't think something happened to them, do you?" Song Hairong wondered.
"No, they'll be fine. They weren't the ones fighting." Despite saying that, he took out his phone to call Wang Honglang. A few of the boys had bought phones, though Li Jingkun was likely the only one who had earned the money for his own.
Wang Honglang answered quickly.
"Hey, where are you?" Wang Honglang asked.
"Waiting outside for you guys," Li Jingkun said. "How are things? Are you all okay?"
"We're fine, we just finished changing our shoes and came out," Wang Honglang said. "Where are you? We'll come find you."
Glad they were safe, Li Jingkun told him their location.
Song Hairong asked, "Are the girls okay?"
Li Jingkun said, "They're fine, they came out with Honglang and the others. It seems the three boys were caught by the skating rink’s security."
"No way?" Song Hairong couldn't help but laugh. He added, "There shouldn't be any gangsters running that place, right?"
Li Jingkun said it was unlikely; they shouldn't watch so many Hong Kong movies. Besides, this was just a small skating rink in a fourth or fifth-tier city, and its main clientele were junior and high school students, not some high-stakes nightclub, so it wasn't that dramatic.
Soon, they saw Wang Honglang, Zhou Jiani, and the others approaching. To their surprise, they had even brought out Li Jingkun and Song Hairong’s shoes. It turned out that Wang Yajing and Zhou Jiani had gone back to get them.
"Impressive, you guys are really brave," Song Hairong said.
Li Jingkun gave them a thumbs-up and said, "Heroines among women." He had been prepared to go buy a new pair of basketball shoes.

There was no time for idle chatter, though; they were all eager to get away. Wang Yajing began having her classmates flag down cars. Unlike Li Jingkun’s hometown of Lihe Town, Liuchuan City was near a major commercial area, so they quickly hailed two or three taxis and agreed to meet at KFC.
"Everyone come along, it’s my treat," Wang Yajing told them.
The three taxis arrived at the KFC entrance in succession, and they met up on the second floor. Wang Yajing and the other girls were already in line to order.
After a while, they managed to squeeze into seats together, and Wang Yajing took the initiative to give Li Jingkun and Song Hairong extra food.
"Thank you," Li Jingkun said.
"Don't mention it, we should be thanking you," Wang Yajing replied.
"Exactly," Zhou Jiani added. "I didn't expect you to be so fierce."
To anyone else, this might have sounded normal, but to the "adult" Li Jingkun, it took on a slightly suggestive tone. He didn't make any inappropriate jokes, though, and replied, "You guys were pretty fierce, too. Two girls helping us get our shoes back."
Zhou Jiani giggled, "Not really, I'm actually a coward. If Yajing hadn't pulled me along, I wouldn't have dared to go."
Li Jingkun said, "So your name is Yajing?"
"Wang Yajing."
The group finally began introducing themselves.
Li Jingkun said, "It seems you’re the fierce one, daring to tell that boy to 'get lost'."
Wang Yajing said, "What’s there to be afraid of? If Hairong hadn't shown up just then, I would have slapped him."
"..."
That was truly impressive; he hadn't expected such a pretty girl to be so bold and heroic. The boys like Wang Honglang felt a bit awkward, having failed to help earlier.
"What happened afterward?" Song Hairong asked.
