Chapter 7: The Cold Poison
Flame uttered a phrase expressionlessly, "You like the Lord?" Though clearly a question, spoken with Flame’s emotionless tone, it came out more like a statement.
This sentence struck Han Bing like a thunderbolt, leaving him utterly shattered.
He was taken aback and retorted, "How could I possibly fall for the Lord? I love women. What kind of look is that? I’m not into men."
"Oh."
Whether it was just his imagination or not, Han Bing felt as if Flame was looking at him with a biased gaze.
"Tell me, do you think I’m some kind of pervert? Is that what you think?" Growing agitated from the lack of a clear answer, he demanded. Yet Flame didn’t even spare him a glance, completely ignoring him.
Trying to reason with Han Bing was futile; his mind always raced ahead, arriving at impossible and absurd conclusions that left others speechless and unable to argue.
"Say it! Do you really see me that way?"
"Don’t spill the Lord’s food." That simple warning finally silenced Han Bing. Xuanyuan Yu was, without a doubt, Han Bing's nemesis—he was deeply afraid of him.
Both Flame and Han Bing were covert guards specially trained by Xuanyuan Yu. A few others remained hidden in the shadows, only appearing under Xuanyuan Yu’s command.
As the two entered the room, they happened to see Xuanyuan Yu feeding Nuoxue. Xuanyuan Yu carefully broke the food into tiny strands or small pieces with chopsticks, feeding the little fox bit by bit. The shameless little fox lay comfortably in Xuanyuan Yu’s cool embrace, thoroughly enjoying this royal treatment. Her large, moist eyes narrowed in contentment. Being a pet was so wonderful! Far better than when she was an immortal—someone cared for her, someone fed her; it was pure bliss!
Nuoxue didn’t eat much; her body was still small, and having just been reborn, her appetite was limited. Once her spiritual energy recovered, she could return to her human form. Although her cultivation and spiritual body from her past life were gone, her soul’s power remained. As long as her spiritual strength was restored, the threats of this world wouldn’t be too great. Moreover, she could help heal Xuanyuan Yu’s illness.
She was a fox who understood gratitude and repaid kindness. Yet the path ahead was far from easy.
Nuoxue used her tiny front paws to push away the food Xuanyuan Yu offered, signaling she couldn’t eat any more.
Flame and Han Bing both noticed something unusual about this little fox. Her movements were elegant and remarkably human-like, as if a person inhabited a fox’s body without any sense of incongruity.
Xuanyuan Yu placed the now full little fox on the table, but Nuoxue gazed at him with violet eyes full of grievance. Reluctantly, he had to pick her back up. The fox happily rubbed against him, her little paws restlessly pawing left and right.
Xuanyuan Yu began his meal with commanding yet pleasing movements. He ate very little, merely tasting each dish. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to eat; everything tasted bland to him. The cold poison that tormented him came from that woman.
Seeing Xuanyuan Yu barely eat, Nuoxue pressed her furry fox face against his, comforting him silently: "Don’t be sad. I will definitely cure you someday. And I really like the cool aura you carry, so please don’t be upset." Flame and Han Bing were both astonished—this little fox was actually comforting their Lord.
