Chapter 30: I Seek Revenge
The little fox felt deeply aggrieved, especially since her poor handmaiden, Liyue, had yet to wake up. Filled with indignation, she immediately squeaked, "Master, let’s go and take revenge on that woman, Weiyang, right now, okay? I’ve lived for over a thousand years, and no one has ever dared to treat me like this! She is simply too bold."
"Squeak, squeak! You must know that I am a fox of noble birth, second only to the ruler himself. How can I tolerate being bullied by a mere princess? She clearly doesn't respect you at all, Master! Don't you see? Don't you see!"
Xuanyuan Yu initially assumed the little fox was just squeaking randomly due to the shock, but looking at the fury in her eyes, he realized it was far from that. She was clamoring for revenge!
The little fox looked at Xuanyuan Yu with tears in her eyes, radiating a posture that suggested if he didn't go, she would cry until he did. Xuanyuan Yu felt helpless; why was he so defenseless against this little fox? What kind of love potion had she fed him?
Xuanyuan Yu’s tone turned sharp. "Hanbing, Lieyan, prepare the carriage. We are going to the imperial dungeon." The frost on his face and the chilling aura he exuded were so intense that Hanbing instinctively kept his distance.
Watching Hanbing’s sullen expression, Lieyan chided him, "Don't be so gloomy. Why are you so jealous? The Master is the Master."
Hanbing bristled instantly. Jealous? Who was jealous? He wasn't sulking; he simply found the little fox annoying.
"Hmph, I don't want to talk to you." For once, Hanbing didn't argue back, choosing instead to walk away quickly. Lieyan sighed, "We're all men; I understand!"
If Hanbing had heard that, he would have surely shouted, "Understand what? You don't understand a thing! I’m not a cut-sleeve—I just don't want to see the Master lose his way. What did I do wrong? None of you understand me!"
"Squeak, squeak! Master, Master, how shall we take revenge on that woman later? Should we drag her out and beat her, or what?"
"Squeak, squeak! Master, she stepped on my tail, and I want to step back on hers. You have to help me later. I’m not strong enough; I’ll definitely lose if I try to do it alone."
Xuanyuan Yu listened to the little fox chattering away, not wanting to dampen her spirits. He stroked her small head while contemplating how to punish Weiyang. In his heart, he knew that killing Weiyang would be the most satisfying resolution. Based on his understanding of her, if he didn't eliminate her now, she would surely continue to target the little fox in the future.
Weeds must be pulled out by the roots, or they will grow again with the spring breeze. Having made up his mind, Xuanyuan Yu decided to truly get rid of Weiyang. The fact that she was his cousin had long been cast to the back of his mind. Anyone who dared to touch what belonged to him had to be prepared to pay the price.
Upon arriving at the dungeon, they found Weiyang discarded in a cell. Because Xuanyuan Yu had used such force earlier, she had yet to regain consciousness. At that moment, a rat was crawling over her; had she been awake, she likely would have fainted from fright all over again.
The little fox curiously examined the dungeon, feeling an eerie chill. A sudden shiver ran down her back, and she immediately gripped Xuanyuan Yu’s lapels, glancing around nervously. Xuanyuan Yu held her close, stroking her snow-white, satin-like fur to comfort her.
"Lieyan, wake Weiyang up and bring her out. I will handle this personally." Xuanyuan Yu’s glass-like eyes gazed at Weiyang in the cell, and he issued the command to Lieyan without a hint of emotion.
Lieyan was shocked. The Master intended to handle this personally—a thing that had never happened before. Lieyan glanced at the little fox; she was truly no ordinary creature.
