Chapter 4: Can They Escape?
I told you already, my name is not Little Wildcat. Hey, you still have not told me your name. Do not go.
Tong Xiaoman hurried after him, but by the time she reached the doorway there was only a wraithlike shadow slipping into the night, gone without a trace.
She stamped her foot in frustration.
Damn it. He had seen every inch of her, touched every inch of her, and yet she had not even gotten a clear look at his face before he escaped. What a loss. A terrible loss.
If she ever had the chance to meet him again, she swore she would strip off his clothes and make sure to take back with interest everything she had lost.
Just then, the ringing in the suite finally stopped, but the doorbell outside began to sound urgently.
She tidied herself and went to answer the door.
Outside stood the hotel manager and a security guard, both waiting anxiously.
When the manager saw her emerge unharmed to open the door, he finally let out a sigh of relief. She was no ordinary guest; if anything happened to her in their hotel, they could never afford the consequences.
Tong Xiaoman eyed them and arched a brow. “What is this? An inspection?”
The manager hurried forward with an apologetic smile. “Miss Tong, I am sorry to disturb you. We called your room just now, but no one answered, so we thought something might have happened, and...” As he spoke, his gaze kept flicking toward the room, as though trying to catch sight of something.
Of course Tong Xiaoman knew what he wanted. She wore a perfunctory smile. “Sorry, I was in the shower and did not hear the phone. Has something happened at the hotel?”
The manager immediately shook his head and said with a smile, “Nothing at all. Since Miss Tong is fine, we will not disturb you further. If you need anything, call room service. Good night.”
Seeing nothing unusual, the manager led the others away.
Back in her room, Tong Xiaoman closed the door and could not quite understand why she had not exposed the man.
She had put a paralytic drug in the bathtub, intending to numb him and then hand him over to the police.
She tapped her forehead, still puzzled by why she had chosen to keep quiet.
Never mind. No use dwelling on it. Sleep. There would be plenty to do tomorrow.
She lay down on the soft bed, but her mind kept drifting to that man. He had been drugged with her paralytic agent and had even stabbed his own arm. With the floors so high, could he really have gotten away?
That night, her dreams were haunted again and again by a pair of bewitching eyes, and the quality of her sleep suffered terribly.
The next morning, before dawn had even broken, the doorbell rang like a ghost gone mad, over and over without end.
After a whole night tormented by those inexplicable eyes, Tong Xiaoman wore a grim face and went to open the door, obviously short on sleep.
Outside stood a young man of tall build, his features so exquisitely handsome they seemed flawless. From head to toe he exuded a roguish, seductive air; every gesture of his was effortlessly dashing and charming. He was the sort of beautiful man it was terribly easy to fall for.
He was none other than Tong Xiaoman’s super self-admiring, outrageously flashy cousin, Zhao Yi.
The moment the door opened, he could not wait and lunged toward her, wanting to hug her.
Tong Xiaoman instantly dodged to the side, letting him扑空, and then mocked him without mercy. “What are you so desperately unsatisfied about first thing in the morning? Did your lover not satisfy you last night?”
Zhao Yi immediately cried foul. “You heartless girl! I just got word from the hotel that someone died here last night, and I rushed over immediately. I care about you that much, and this is how you treat your dear cousin? How heartbreaking.” As he spoke, he pressed a hand to his chest in mock pain, his expression so exaggerated that she rolled her eyes hard.
