Chapter 59: A Disgrace to the Master's School

Lu Chenzhou shot a meaningful glance at Gu Mang.

The young woman remained noncommittal.

Yu Zhongjing looked between the two, a flash of sharp light cutting through his perceptive eyes.

Coming to his senses and realizing he was still being held by the arms, he huffed irritably, "Let me down! You blockheads! The old man is already here! Why are you still holding me?!"

The bodyguards looked at Lu Chenzhou for confirmation.

The man nodded.

The bodyguards released Yu Zhongjing and respectfully retreated from the room.

Only when his feet touched the floor did Yu Zhongjing feel a sense of security.

He smoothed down his clothes, his eyes still straying involuntarily toward Gu Mang.

The young woman lifted her gaze, her eyes wild and untamed, carrying a biting chill.

Yu Zhongjing's heart skipped a beat; he dared not look any longer and shifted his attention to the bed. Seeing the old matriarch's complexion, he was startled. "When I saw the old lady last time, it wasn't nearly this severe."

He strode over and gently parted the old matriarch's eyelids to examine them.

"I prescribed a traditional Chinese medicine formula that could have cured her completely. Someone recklessly messed with it by using Western medicine, causing severe damage to her vital energy," Gu Mang said slowly.

Hearing her voice, Yu Zhongjing glanced at Gu Mang again, though this time only briefly, quickly and self-consciously withdrawing his gaze.

He picked up the scans and various medical data sheets from the bedside table to review them.

Three minutes later, he announced, "A craniotomy is the only option. However, given the old lady's advanced age, the surgery is extremely hazardous. Even I only have a fifty percent chance of success."

Lu Chenzhou looked at Gu Mang. "What is your success rate?"

Gu Mang's eyes shifted.

As their gazes met, the trust in the man's eyes was profound.

"Sixty percent." She wasn't lying to him.

Lu Chenzhou pressed his thin lips together and spoke with distinct courtesy, "Uncle Yu, please assist Gu Mang in performing the surgery on my grandmother."

Yu Zhongjing let out a scoff, as if deeply insulted. "Lu Chenzhou! Who do you take me for? Who am I? Yu Zhongjing! The foremost authority in neurosurgery! And you actually expect me to assist a little girl! You—you are simply arrogant and outrageous!"

"The project you are currently researching—I will invest fifty million into it," the man said in a low voice.

"Deal! It's settled then!" Yu Zhongjing agreed without a moment's hesitation, breaking into a cheerful smile. "I never took you for such a generous young man."

Lu Chenzhou's gaze remained crystalline and cool.

...

The nurses of the Lu residence promptly wheeled the old matriarch into the operating theater.

The group followed closely behind.

As Gu Mang passed by Yu Zhongjing, the corner of her mouth quirked up as she lowered her voice, "Nice acting. You even conned him out of fifty million."

Yu Zhongjing reservedly stroked his small mustache.

Yet, recalling the old matriarch's condition, his expression grew solemn. "Was it Lu Xiwei who stirred up trouble behind the scenes?"

Gu Mang raised an eyebrow, her tone quite casual, "Your prize student."

"How can you blame me? Back then, she entered my tutelage with the highest score, and her aptitude was genuinely impressive. Who could have known her character was so crooked!" Yu Zhongjing sighed repeatedly. "Truly a disgrace to the master's school!"

Gu Mang said nothing.

"Let's put that aside for now; the old lady's surgery is far more tricky," Yu Zhongjing said, rubbing his temples with a headache. "She's of such advanced age that one wrong move would offend the entire Lu family. The Yu family has always forbidden me from meddling in this affair. If it weren't for that boy Lu Chenzhou forcing my hand, I wouldn't have come!"

Gu Mang pressed her lips together, her dark eyes deepening as she murmured, "Protect the old lady's heart meridian."

Yu Zhongjing nodded.

After changing into blue scrubs in the sterilization room, the two of them stepped into the operating theater.
