Chapter 51: He Must Be Fired!
Chapter 51: Expulsion is a Must!
Xi Yan frowned, looking sharply at Luo Songhua. "Without any reason, why on earth should the students of our class be expelled?"
"On what grounds?" Luo Songhua sneered, raising his voice sternly. "On the grounds of cheating! Not only are they going to be expelled, but as their head teacher, you needn't think you can escape responsibility either! I'd like to ask you, as a teacher, why on earth would you help your students cheat?"
A fire instantly surged in Xi Yan's chest, her voice turning icy. "Teacher Luo, what do you mean by that? Are you implying that it was I who leaked the test questions to Meng Jingyang and Shen Huan?"
"Otherwise, how would you explain it? In last week's interim exam, Shen Huan was still in the bottom three hundred of the grade. Teacher Xi, you truly possess miraculous teaching methods—taking a student from the bottom of the grade and rocketing her to 157th in just five days!" Luo Songhua mocked with heavy sarcasm.
"Exactly. That's simply impossible unless there was cheating involved."
"Teacher Xi, the bet was actually just a joke between Teacher Luo and the students, meant merely to inspire them to study hard. There was no need for you to resort to such dishonest means to win."
"Indeed, Teacher Xi, we won't pursue disciplinary action against you this time, but those two students must be expelled!"
One teacher after another directed their hostility entirely at Xi Yan.
The grade director tapped his finger a few times against the score sheet and said in a deep voice, "Teacher Xi, go back and inform Meng Jingyang and Shen Huan that they have been expelled. They must leave the school immediately."
A cold light flashed in the depths of Xi Yan's eyes as she replied unyieldingly, "I will say it again: my students did not cheat! They earned their scores through their own abilities, and you have no right to expel them!"
The grade director furrowed his brow, his sharp gaze fixing on Xi Yan. "There are some things I'd rather not say too bluntly, Xi Yan. You've been a teacher for three years now. Even in the national college entrance examinations, which province could possibly produce a test paper like Meng Jingyang's? Apart from losing seven points on the Chinese essay, she got a perfect score on everything else! Is there any other possibility besides cheating?!"
When Xi Yan first saw those scores, she had her doubts as well, but she did not jump to conclusions rashly.
Instead, she had personally taken Meng Jingyang's and Shen Huan's answer sheets to check them over.
She discovered that not only were the answers to the major problems vastly different between the two girls, but they also differed from the standard answer key in many places.
The steps for the complex problems written by Meng Jingyang were remarkably smooth, with every single procedure exquisitely brilliant.
As for Shen Huan, her work was unpolished; some of her steps looped around in circles before finally returning to the starting point, making her problem-solving process cumbersome and lengthy, though she luckily arrived at the correct answer in the end.
From this, she could be certain that her students had not let her down; they had both achieved their scores entirely through their own strength.
Since Meng Jingyang was Shen Huan's desk-mate, Shen Huan must have learned from Meng Jingyang, which explained her massive improvement.
Initially, the principal had wanted Meng Jingyang to enter Class One, but Luo Songhua had refused her.
Xi Yan took a deep breath and said calmly, "Director, I'll repeat what I said before: they definitely did not cheat."
"Stubborn to the very end!" Luo Songhua narrowed his eyes. "Since Teacher Xi has such blind faith in her own students and believes their scores can skyrocket in just five days, let's use this week's interim exam papers—which just arrived at the school and still have their seals unbroken. Have the two of them take the exam separately, right here in front of all the teachers in our grade. If their scores show a massive discrepancy compared to this month's exam, not only will those two be kicked out of school, but you won't be staying either!"
Xi Yan's voice was resolute and powerful. "Very well, then let them take the exam."
