Chapter 49: The Top of the Grade, Right in Our Class
Chapter 49: The Top Student of the Grade Is in Our Class
Monday morning early.
The news that exam results would be released today had already spread throughout the entire senior year. Walking down the hallways, one could instantly feel the restless and turbulent atmosphere in the air.
At Mingcheng High School, the school uniforms differed in color for each grade level.
For seniors, the uniform consisted of blue bodies with black sleeves.
Students gathered in small groups, whispering and discussing nothing else except the grades about to be posted today, all waiting to watch Class 20 make a fool of themselves.
During morning self-study, this atmosphere was pushed straight to its peak!
With the exception of Class 1, which diligently studied, every other class sat excitedly, waiting for the results to drop.
Spectators are never afraid of big dramas.
……
Class 1.
"Yinyin, you checked your answers yesterday. What score do you think you can get?" the boy sitting behind Gu Yin asked her.
Gu Yin bit her lip, her voice soft and gentle, "Except for the last question of the final math problem and the last physics problem, everything else matches up."
The boy widened his eyes in astonishment, "Does that mean you can score over seven hundred points this time?"
Gu Yin frowned and shook her head, "It should be around six hundred and ninety."
"You are so amazing! The test papers this time were super hard!" Shock filled the boy's eyes. He then turned to ask Lu Yi, who was separated from him by an aisle and a female classmate, "Lu Yi, what about you? How much can you score this time?"
Lu Yi glanced sideways at Gu Yin and replied coldly, "Around six hundred and ninety."
Like Gu Yin, she hadn't managed to solve the final big problems in math and physics either. After deducting some points for English and Chinese, it would land around six hundred and ninety.
The boy paused, momentarily speechless.
This was getting awkward.
Could it be that these two would tie for first place again?
After all, across the entire grade level, Gu Yin and Lu Yi practically existed on the level of academic deities. Who else could possibly contend with them for the top spot?
Not a single person in Class 1 bothered to discuss the ongoing bet or the upcoming grades.
In their eyes, Class 20 and themselves existed in completely different realms—like clouds and mud.
They simply could not lose.
Even Lu Yi had never doubted for a single second that Class 1 would lose; the matter simply wasn't worthy of her attention.
……
Class 20.
Usually chaotic and noisy, the classroom was dead quiet at this moment.
The entire class sat at their desks with dejected expressions, letting out sighs as if awaiting a final death sentence.
Meng Jinyang went about her business as usual, reviewing English practice questions and silently mouthing vocabulary words she hadn't fully mastered yet.
On Gu Mang's desk lay a soft cushion, and she was buried face-down on it, fast asleep.
Meng Jinyang had bought that cushion specifically because she was worried Gu Mang would find sleeping on the hard desk uncomfortable.
Lu Yang glanced at the boss-like figure sleeping next to him with absolute calm, and vigorously scratched his head.
The scores would be out this morning. What on earth should they do now?
Were they really going to bare their faces and let others trudge all over them?
Fatty gave Lu Yang a pitiful look, then glanced over at Chu Yao, letting out a long sigh.
Awakened by the endless stream of sighs, Gu Mang lifted her head with a look of pure annoyance, her bone-chilling gaze sweeping across them.
Her eyes carried a faint, fierce redness, and her delicate brows looked cold and aggressively wild.
Her entire body radiated low pressure.
Lu Yang instantly felt a wave of icy air shoot straight to the top of his head, his spine stiffening. "M-Mang Sister, what's wrong?"
Gu Mang's expression was unsightly as she spoke coldly, "The top student of the grade is in our class. Keep it down, all of you, and stop disturbing my sleep."
Her voice was soft and slow, yet inherently spine-chilling.
Lu Yang knitted his brows, staring at Gu Mang intently, and said with a complicated expression, "Mang Sister, are you still half-asleep?"
The top student of the grade in their class?
How on earth was that possible?!
Resting her cheek carelessly on one hand, Gu Mang raised a single eyebrow—wild and untamed—and uttered in a low voice, "Don't believe me?"
