Chapter 38: Master of Preying on Predators

Gu Mang was playing games on her phone without even looking up. “I’m a doctor, and he’s a patient’s family member. Do I need to explain any further?”

Lin Shuang choked on her words but still added, “Be careful dealing with him. I’m really afraid he’ll devour you down to the bone.”

Gu Mang curled her lips into a mischievous smile, tilting her head. Her dark, gleaming eyes fixed on Lin Shuang with a careless air. “Don’t you know I’m best at preying on predators?”

Lin Shuang was speechless.

After joking, Gu Mang spoke half-seriously. “Don’t worry, I’m very cautious around Lu Chengzhou.”

To an ordinary person, Lin Shuang wouldn’t worry at all about Gu Mang’s identity being exposed.

But since the other party was Lu Chengzhou, she felt a little uncertain.

Still, Gu Mang wasn’t exactly harmless; she was ruthless in her own way.

Lin Shuang said, “Then I’ll leave you be. Coincidentally, I’m heading back to headquarters tomorrow. I’ve already met my targets for the year, so I’m taking a long vacation to Europe.”

Gu Mang gave a lazy hum in response, shifted into a more comfortable position, and continued playing her game.

…

The next morning at seven o’clock, Gu Mang arrived at the school. At the gate stood the duty teacher, while groups of students strolled inside.

The moment Gu Mang appeared, a noticeable stir broke out.

The girl’s appearance was striking—her skin pale, school uniform unbuttoned, hands shoved casually into her pockets.

She looked as if she had stepped right out of a comic book.

The slight upward tilt of her eyes carried a hint of wild mischief.

A chill lingered in their depths.

She walked into the campus with an indifferent air.

Students who usually hurried to class slowed their pace, whispering as they watched her pass.

“Who is that? She’s so pretty. Which grade is she in?”

“I saw on the campus forum that she’s a new transfer student in Class 20 of Grade 12. She just arrived yesterday and immediately topped the school’s popularity polls, leaving Senior Gu Yin and Senior Lu Yi far behind.”

“What’s the use of being so pretty? Everyone knows what kind of place Class 20 is. I still think Senior Gu Yin deserves her reputation.”

“Senior Lu Yi isn’t bad either.”

“That senior’s aura is just too damn strong!”

Wherever Gu Mang walked, people ahead instinctively made way for her.

One by one, they stared at her intently.

When she reached the classroom door, she happened to run into Meng Jinyang.

“Gu Mang, you’re back!” Meng Jinyang smiled, her eyes crinkling. “Have you eaten? I brought you breakfast.”

Gu Mang threw an arm around her shoulder and headed inside the classroom, lowering her voice. “Did you finish my homework?”

Meng Jinyang nodded sheepishly, whispering, “I wrote it with my left hand, so it’s guaranteed you can’t tell. Besides, your handwriting is so bad—it’s about the same as mine with my left hand.”

Gu Mang narrowed her eyes and raised an eyebrow, looking at her with feigned nonchalance. “Jinyang, now you’re even daring to criticize me.”

Meng Jinyang stuck out her tongue and slipped back to her seat.

Gu Mang’s arrival silenced the entire class.

Her presence was powerful—the boys acted as if they had just seen the headmaster, pulling their legs back from the aisle and putting away their phones.

They pretended to open their Chinese textbooks, but their eyes couldn’t help sneaking glances at Gu Mang.

So cool, so aloof—the ultimate boss.
