Chapter 37: The White Fox Appears
Chapter 37: The White Fox Appears
Midnight. The Tianshuo was at its most vibrant.
In the women's restroom, Gu Mang was alone. A laser projection of a virtual red keyboard shimmered on the marble vanity. A miniature projector cast lines of scrolling code onto the wall.
Gu Mang stood with one leg bent, her expression languid. Her slender, graceful fingers flew across the virtual keyboard with a speed that defied the eye. A cigarette hung between her lips, unlit. Her gaze was cold, and the faint curve of her lips held a trace of something wickedly rebellious buried deep within her bones.
Suddenly, her rapid movements ceased. Her beautiful eyes narrowed slightly.
At that same moment, chaos erupted in the Tianshuo’s security room. Every screen plunged into darkness, reflecting the panic and disorder of the room.
Ten minutes later, Gu Mang received a message: [Done. Retreat.]
Shortly after, a large group of men in black began scouring the Tianshuo, as if searching for someone. Gu Mang adjusted her watch, necklace, earrings, and gold-rimmed glasses before leaving the restroom. She lowered the brim of her cap and walked out with an air of indifference.
Just as she reached the entrance, "Stop," a few men in black stepped forward, scanning her up and down.
Deep within her lowered eyes, a flash of cold, icy darkness emerged.
"Miss Gu?" A familiar male voice suddenly sounded from behind her.
Gu Mang glanced over to see Lu Chengzhou. The man had one hand in his pocket, his black shirt lending him an air of disciplined restraint. The corners of his eyes were tilted upward, sharp and cold.
Seeing it was Lu Chengzhou, the men in black bowed respectfully. "Young Master Lu, is this your friend?"
"Yes." Lu Chengzhou kept his eyes fixed on Gu Mang as he spoke.
The men quickly apologized, "Apologies, Miss. We offended you."
"It's fine," Gu Mang replied politely.
Once they stepped outside the Tianshuo, Lu Chengzhou looked at the reticent girl. "Why did you come to the Tianshuo so late?"
"To make money," Gu Mang replied coolly.
"Are you that short on cash?"
Gu Mang lowered her bright, dark eyes to look at him. "Young Master Lu, are you not aware of my financial situation?"
Lu Chengzhou had investigated her: her parents had passed away in an accident not long ago, leaving her an orphan forced to fend for herself.
"Didn't I pay you two hundred thousand for the consultation?" he asked.
Gu Mang was ever-cautious. "One shouldn't sit idle and consume their savings."
Watching the earnest look on her face, a smile touched his cold eyes. "Let's go. I'll take you back to school."
"No need. A friend is coming to pick me up."
No sooner had she spoken than a white SUV pulled up in the distance. The window rolled down, and Lin Shuang called out, "Gu Mang, let's go."
Gu Mang gave a polite nod to Lu Chengzhou. "Goodbye, Young Master Lu."
Lu Chengzhou watched the girl's slender figure retreat. In his heart, the only word that truly described her was "beautiful." Yet, it felt as though every word in the dictionary would pale in comparison to her.
Once she drove off, he turned and headed back into the Tianshuo.
At a bar booth, Qin Fang and He Yidu were waiting. Seeing Lu Chengzhou return so quickly, they were surprised but dared not pry into his business. They went straight to the point. "Brother Cheng, the Shadow Alliance ruined the deal. The one who took the mission was Nine-Tail."
Lu Chengzhou leaned back into the sofa, his long, clean fingers tapping lightly on the armrest. His voice was casual. "Nine-Tail doesn't have the skill to hack the Tianshuo’s security system."
Qin Fang and He Yidu exchanged glances.
Did that mean someone else was helping Nine-Tail from the shadows?
Who could it be? The elusive and unpredictable White Fox?
...
Lin Shuang drove the SUV at high speed, streetlights blurring past. Her hand rested casually on the steering wheel, her eyes darting repeatedly toward the passenger seat.
After holding back for a long time, she finally blurted out, "Little Gu, what's going on between you and Lu Chengzhou?"
The two of them had walked out together, standing so close.
There was definitely something fishy going on.
