Chapter 05
At four in the afternoon, Xia Zui yawned while eating her takeout and opened the Cat Paw app.
Before she could even click to follow, she saw that Suan Suan’s profile picture on the homepage looked like she was about to cry.
Curious, Xia Zui clicked into Suan Suan’s livestream. Today, Suan Suan was dressed like Little Red Riding Hood, looking quite pretty, but her complexion was pale and unhealthy.
Even the live chat was a mess.
“Stop pretending. If the big brother asks you to sing, then just sing.”
“She’s just a performer selling smiles, thinking she’s somebody important.”
“If you don’t like it, then get lost. Suan Suan already said she won’t sing.”
“Suan Suan, ignore them. They have no manners.”
“Think money makes you special?”
At that moment, Suan Suan spoke up, “I will refund the money from Cat Planet. Please leave my livestream.”
Xia Zui was baffled.
“Xia Xia Xia: What’s going on?”
Suan Suan noticed Xia Xia Xia and forced a small smile, softly saying, “Welcome, Sister Xia Xia.”
Looking at the chaotic chat, Xia Zui pieced together what had happened.
A user named Jiang Yue asked how many gifts it would take to request a song. Someone replied that one Cat Bowl would be enough.
The Cat Bowl cost about twenty yuan.
Jiang Yue then sent a Cat Planet gift, demanding Suan Suan sing "Itchy Wind."
This so-called "Itchy Wind" was a highly provocative song, with explicit lyrics and plenty of moaning mixed in.
Suan Suan had never heard the song before, and after listening, her expression turned grim. Meanwhile, Jiang Yue egged her on, insulting her and demanding a more seductive performance.
A group of lecherous viewers joined in, loudly encouraging her to sing.
Suan Suan refused to sing the song and asked the owner to change it, only for the owner to curse at her, calling her a singing prostitute and accusing streamers of scamming gifts if they don’t comply.
After reading all this, Xia Zui took a deep breath and typed:
“Xia Xia Xia: Oh? Five thousand yuan isn’t much?”
“Xia Xia Xia: Jiang Yue, how about I give you five thousand if you sing 'Itchy Wind' for me?”
“Xia Xia Xia? Holy crap! Isn’t she the rich woman who spent 990,000 in a single day?”
“Suan Suan! Xia Xia Xia is here!”
“Jiang Yue, keep pretending. You think Suan Suan hasn’t seen the world?”
Jiang Yue glared at the golden messages on screen, lighting a cigarette. He had come to the stream just for fun and wasn’t expecting the streamer to be so uncooperative—let alone be challenged by someone else.
After spending 990,000, what was that worth? Probably all gone by now.
“Jiang Yue: What? You don’t like that?”
“Jiang Yue: I told you, you’re just a dog. Can’t you understand? Come on, knock me down if you can.”
Suan Suan saw the situation escalating and quickly said, “Wife Xia, please don’t lose your temper.”
Then she addressed Jiang Yue: “I will refund your five thousand yuan, but please leave my stream.”
There was nothing she could do. Jiang Yue had spent nearly a few million on the Cat Paw platform and had privileges that even moderators couldn’t remove.
Xia Zui scoffed and typed, “Alright, come on. How do you want to fight?”
Jiang Yue didn’t expect this person to actually challenge him. As a small company boss, surely he could teach this random someone a lesson.
“Jiang Yue: Let’s do a live PK. I’ll have Monkey connect with you. Don’t chicken out.”
“Xia Xia Xia: Suan Suan, agree to the connection.”
The chat grew tense and excited.
“Can the rich lady beat him?”
“That Jiang Yue is known for spending millions on Monkey already.”
“The rich lady’s power isn’t weak either—she spent 990,000 in a day.”
“Suan Suan, don’t be afraid, fight him.”
“But I’m worried the rich lady might run out of money.”
Jiang Yue had already left the stream. Xia Zui typed, “Don’t worry, I have enough pocket money to take him down.”
“Wow, pocket money to fight Jiang Yue?”
“Rich lady is amazing!”
“Suan Suan, connect the mic now!”
Suan Suan was already under immense pressure. If she refused to connect now, not only would she lose face, but Xia Xia Xia would be dragged down as well. Moreover, her loyal fans would feel let down.
She knew Monkey well—the streamer liked to raid other streams with his fans, who were equally sleazy.
Suan Suan had been raided twice before and had changed her streaming schedule just to avoid him.
Yet now she had to connect with him.
Suan Suan clicked to accept Monkey’s connection request.
Soon, Monkey’s face appeared on screen—sharp-featured, with inverted triangle eyes staring at the phone.
“So you’re the streamer who pissed off my big brother.”
“Alright, no time for talk—let’s PK. Loser kneels and kowtows ten times.”
Suan Suan was about to reply when she saw Xia Xia Xia’s message in the chat. Taking a deep breath, she said, “Fine. Kneel and kowtow while apologizing to Boss Xia Xia.”
Monkey smirked, seeing Jiang Yue had agreed, and gave an “OK” gesture.
He muted his mic. Suan Suan’s fans immediately saw Monkey’s gift progress bar shoot up to 50,000.
“Everyone, this is intolerable! Do you really want to see Suan Suan kowtow to that bastard?”
“Don’t rely solely on Boss Xia. Let’s all chip in and crowdfund!”
“Suan Suan, don’t be afraid—we’re here for you!”
Her fans had stood by her through highs and lows, and their unity was strong.
Tears glistened in Suan Suan’s eyes as she nodded in thanks, “Thank you all! Thank you for staying with me!”
Xia Zui watched the gift bar climb, finished her last bite of takeout, drank some water, and prepared to start.
Monkey, seeing the abundance of gifts, grinned, “Thanks, Brother Jiang! Let’s give Jiang a 666!”
Jiang Yue had sent ten Mermaid gifts but saw no response from the other side. He sneered, “What kind of opponent is this?”
“Jiang Yue: Seems like they can’t keep up.”
No sooner had he said that, the opposing gift bar suddenly surpassed theirs.
Xia Zui silently tapped on Mermaid gifts. She had nine million in Cat Paw.
She could afford to send over nine hundred Mermaids. There was no way she would lose to Jiang Yue.
Suan Suan, watching the stream of Mermaids appearing, wondered if this was the same scene when Boss Xia sent 99 Mermaids that day.
As more and more Mermaids flooded the screen, the viewer count swelled.
“What’s going on?”
“PK battles are this intense?”
“Wife Xia?”
“Wife Xia, are you abandoning Cola Wife now?”
“Wow, thirty-five gifts already.”
“The other side is still sending gifts too.”
Jiang Yue frowned as he saw the gift bar climb again. He recharged another 200,000 yuan.
Spending tens of thousands at once—was Xia Xia Xia crazy?
She had just spent nearly a million days ago and was spending again. Could her finances really hold up?
Jiang Yue guessed she was struggling to keep up and definitely couldn’t spend another million.
Smirking, he kept sending gifts to Monkey, who knew how to play.
Monkey often invited him to fun events and had even hung out offline a few times.
For Jiang Yue, spending a few million wasn’t a big deal. This time, he planned to use 500,000 to crush the opponent.
He was determined to see if this person’s money was endless.
But the gift bar on the other side already surpassed 500,000, and the crowd kept growing.
Jiang Yue darkened and added another 200,000.
Though wealthy, Jiang Yue usually spent little by little on Cat Paw.
This aggressive spending tactic was giving him a stomachache.
Monkey then rallied his fans, “Monkey army! Don’t let Brother Jiang fight alone! Everyone, send gifts too!”
“Let’s take down that old witch!”
“6666666666!”
“Look at the excitement! They’ve spent over a million combined between the two streams.”
“So lively, so lively!”
“I’m helping Brother Jiang too!”
Meanwhile, Suan Suan’s stream was flooded with gifts, though all were overshadowed by Xia Zui’s Mermaid effects.
Xia Zui didn’t spam gifts but carefully outpaced the other side’s gift bar. When they caught up, she sent more.
She wanted to drain Jiang Yue’s funds.
If she dumped millions at once, Jiang Yue might just flee.
After all, her money wasn’t hard-earned, but his might be.
She didn’t care.
Jiang Yue clenched his teeth as the opposing gift bar kept rising.
He decided to go all out and spent another 200,000 at once.
The gift bar shot past the other side, and he exhaled in relief, standing tall.
“66666! As expected of Boss Jiang!”
“Boss Jiang is awesome!”
“Wow, tens of thousands in one go—terrifying!”
“Gods battling, mortals beware.”
Monkey praised Jiang Yue, “Only Brother Jiang can do it! Let’s crush them…”
Before he finished, the opposing gift bar suddenly surged to one million.
Jiang Yue stormed into Suan Suan’s stream and saw Xia Xia Xia had sent over fifty Mermaids at once.
“Is this person insane?”
Jiang Yue clenched his phone and shook his head.
No, he couldn’t back down now after spending so much.
Otherwise, he’d become the biggest joke on Cat Paw.
Grim-faced, he recharged another 400,000.
One million was nothing compared to his 1.1 million.
He was determined to crush this opponent once and for all.
