Chapter 48

Yu Yan was sitting on the sofa watching a livestream when the shout about the snail noodles startled her so much she almost dropped her phone.
She watched as Chen Wu’s off-road vehicle sped forward like a streak of lightning.
All the zombies that hadn’t dodged in time were launched into the air by the crash. For a moment, the sky was filled with zombies falling like dumplings.
“Roar oooh oooh!”
Snail Noodles: “Aaaaaaaaah!”
[Stop screaming, you nearly made me drop my phone.]
[What on earth are you howling about? The zombies haven’t even touched you!]
[Aaaaaah! So many zombies!]
[I think he’s just scared by the driving skills.]
Snail Noodles was gripping the handle with one hand and clutching the seatbelt with the other, mumbling, “Slow down, slow down, aaaaah!”
He felt like his soul and stomach were about to be tossed out.
His vision blurred, and after seeing a few zombies at the start, he soon became dizzy and disoriented.
Chen Wu exclaimed, “Sorry, sorry, hahaha, I’m just used to driving like this in the apocalypse.”
“Alright, I’ll slow down.”
Since the car was protected with a golden shield, as long as the tourists stayed inside, the zombies wouldn’t get close.
Even if they went outside, it wouldn’t matter much, since they all had golden shields.
Chen Wu eased off the accelerator. “Better now?”
Snail Noodles felt his stomach settle back into place. Pale-faced, he stared at the grotesque zombies outside, no longer feeling fear.
Compared to Chen Wu’s driving skills, zombies weren’t so scary after all!
After catching his breath, he glanced at the rearview mirror. A huge horde of zombies was chasing the car.
They clawed and snarled, their eyes glowing green, fixated on Snail Noodles. They even drooled as they lunged.
“Thrilling! Really thrilling!”
It felt just like being hunted by zombies in a desperate escape.
Chen Wu laughed heartily, “It’d be even more exciting without the golden shield!”
Back when they were fleeing, they’d sweat profusely, wishing they could speed the car into flight.
Snail Noodles quickly shook his head, “No way! I’m too useless. Without the golden shield, I wouldn’t dare come here.”
He peered out the window. The city was desolate, overrun by zombies, with abandoned buildings everywhere.
The viewers in the livestream saw the car circling the city, a massive zombie horde in hot pursuit.
[Damn, this feels kind of festive.]
[Exciting, but not that scary, mainly because we know zombies can’t catch them. Without the golden shield, it’d be a different story.]
[Without the golden shield, the streamer wouldn’t last.]
[Is this city tour included in the package? I want to sign up.]
[Hey, can we record the whole thing with drones? I want to show my friends—I’ve been chased by zombies too.]
[Roar roar roar!]
From time to time, a zombie would suddenly leap onto the car window beside Snail Noodles, facing him with its ghastly face.
“Aaaaaah!”
Chen Wu chuckled as he heard Snail Noodles scream, still focused on driving.
Sometimes zombies were flung onto the hood, lying there snarling and even trying to bite.
But the golden shield protected the car; when a zombie swiped its claws, its own nails broke first.

“Want some music?” Chen Wu clicked play, and a burst of rock music poured from the speakers.
With the strong rhythm, the zombies writhed and rolled on the hood.
“Boom boom bam bam!” Snail Noodles shook his head and moved his body to the beat.
[Zombie dance party?]
[Can we throw a party in a pile of zombies?]
[Suddenly zombies don’t seem so scary. Might as well treat it like a holographic game.]
[Lol, zombies never expected people would want to party with them.]
[Who’s that? So fast, the slots are already full. Can this tour company open more spots?]
Yu Yan wanted to sign up too but saw the spots were already full. She followed the channel, planning to grab a spot at midnight.
Right, she’d bring Gu Miyue along!
They could beautifully experience being chased by zombies!
At the square, Xia Zui was leading a group of tourists to watch psychic performances.
The fire psychic waved his hands, unleashing roaring flames that looked like the sky was ablaze.
He even controlled the fire to explode like fireworks—truly magnificent.
The water psychic rode in on a water dragon, though unfortunately the water she controlled wasn’t potable; otherwise, the base wouldn’t be short on water.
There was also an ice psychic who froze the ground with a gesture.
Xia Zui thought to herself and pulled the ice psychic aside. “Go talk to your leader. Get a patch of ground and build an ice castle for tourists to play in.”
“Can you do it?”
The ice psychic’s eyes lit up instantly. “I can!”
Why hadn’t he thought of this before? An ice castle or ice amusement park.
Though it might be labor-intensive, he wasn’t the only ice psychic at the base.
Besides, the weather was still fairly cold, and since he controlled the ice, it wouldn’t melt.
Perfect for tourists to enjoy!
Great! Another way to make money!
“I’ll go find the leader now!”
Xia Zui rubbed her chin and resumed watching the show. Meanwhile, You You, who had been playing cards all morning, said, “It’s time to add some shops to enhance the tourist experience.”
“Draw a card, Xia Xia-chan!”
Xia Zui: !!!
You You had told her that besides local specialties, a tourist city needed basic facilities; otherwise, visitors might not feel comfortable.
Xia Zui pictured a spinning wheel in her mind, featuring a coffee shop, internet café, milk tea shop, stamp-collecting store, arcade...
If she wanted to draw a prize, it would definitely be the arcade.
After all, the arcade was the biggest, though she wasn’t sure if tourists would like it.
She gave the wheel a strong spin. It whirled and whirled until the pointer stopped on the internet café.
“The internet café will be next to the restaurant,” You You said as she played cards.
Xia Zui nodded.
Alright, an internet café it is.
She led the tourists to the city wall. As soon as they reached the top, the tourists eagerly looked down.
A roar echoed.
Looking closely, it was a horde of zombies chasing a car.

“Looks like Snail Noodles’ city tour experience!”
“Wow, that looks so thrilling! Can we try it tomorrow?”
“With so many zombies, won’t we get caught and turned into zombies too?”
“No way! We have golden shields!”
Xia Zui waved her small red flag. “Tomorrow morning, everyone can experience driving around the city. That concludes today’s tour. Those who don’t want to try the city tour can enjoy other activities.”
As she turned to leave the wall, a thin man suddenly blocked her path.
“Hello, I want to discuss some business with you,” Rao Lian said, pulling a business card from his pocket and handing it to her.
Xia Zui took the card and glanced at it. “Director?”
Directors have business cards?
“Hello, hello. What exactly do you want to discuss?”
Rao Lian replied, “I saw your tour only offers a three-day, two-night package. I want to shoot a film here and wondered if I could stay longer.”
Xia Zui raised an eyebrow. “What about the actors and crew? How do you plan to manage that? You’re not shooting alone, right?”
Rao Lian smiled. “I think the psychics here are perfect actors, and the zombies are already present.”
“But don’t worry, I will pay them! Though maybe not a lot.”
“As for the crew, there should be people here. If not, I can train them from scratch.”
He had already set his sights on this place. No need for special effects or sets; everything was ready.
He stayed up all night writing the script and was determined to make this shoot a success.
Xia Zui pondered for a moment. The three-day, two-night tour wasn’t a system rule but her own decision.
She limited it to avoid overcrowding at the base.
But he wanted to film a movie...
“Do you have any notable works?”
Rao Lian expected the question and answered quickly, “I previously directed ‘Moon of the Lost City.’”
Hearing this, Xia Zui immediately recognized the title. “You directed that? But the director’s name was Zhang Mu.”
Rao Lian chuckled awkwardly. “Stage name, stage name.”
Xia Zui had seen the film; it was a surprise hit at the time, but she hadn’t heard of the director since.
So that was a pseudonym.
“If you don’t believe me, I can show you my Weibo!”
Rao Lian was about to pull out his phone.
To be safe, Xia Zui glanced at it and then, seeing his hopeful expression, said, “Can I have a role too?”
Although not using her real identity, she didn’t mind.
If she had fun acting, that was enough.
Rao Lian looked at her and said, “Of course!”
Xia Zui nodded. “Then let’s have a pleasant cooperation. How long do you plan to shoot here? I’ll give you a friendly discount.”
Rao Lian thought for a moment. “At least three months.”
“Then ten thousand for the location fee. You handle the rest with the base leader. I don’t need a salary, just give me a villain role! Hehehe!”
Xia Zui said happily.
She’d never played a villain before.
Rao Lian quickly agreed, “Alright, then please help introduce me to the base leader.”
