Chapter 56: The Mysterious Female Teacher from Last Class Is Very Beautiful
Inside the classroom.
During the break between classes.
Ji Xian pulled Qiu Yu aside to whisper.
“Boss Qiu, Duan Ming has been out with that tall fool for almost two periods now. Do you think something might have happened? If those two really are as useless as they seem and were lost from the start, they probably would have been revived and escaped by now. That would mean we’ve lost two meat shields.”
Qiu Yu frowned. “Sigh, if that’s the case, there’s nothing we can do. Looks like we overestimated Duan Ming. Luckily, we still have the mute…”
Their gazes shifted to where the mute, Zeng Yanliang, was burying his head deep into a pile of books, becoming the focus of that small corner.
“Come on, let’s go build some rapport.”
Qiu Yu stood first and walked over. The moment he patted Zeng Yanliang on the back, the latter shuddered, immediately lifting his face from its expressionless state to one of sheer terror, babbling incessantly.
“It’s okay, relax, it’s me,” Qiu Yu said kindly with a smile.
“Bababa~”
Qiu Yu’s lips curved slightly, calmly responding, “Really, there’s no need to be so nervous. You were chosen as an outstanding candidate for the assessment, so you must have some extraordinary qualities. As long as you can overcome your anxiety, there’s no reason you can’t get through this B-level mission safely.”
“How about we work together? I’ll handle finding ways to earn credits, but I’ll need you to step up when it really counts. How about it?”
“Bababa bababa~”
Qiu Yu rubbed his forehead in frustration.
Just then, the trio of ruffians returned to the classroom, joking and laughing.
Duan Ming spotted Qiu Yu beside Zeng Yanliang and enthusiastically greeted him.
“Hey, still alive, huh?”
(_)x2
Qiu Yu suppressed his emotions and smiled faintly. “Yeah, better to be cautious when you’re new here. How about you two? All good?”
“Nooo problem. It was just a trip to the disciplinary office—old business, no big deal. And we made a new friend.”
Liang Zhichao nodded anxiously, then dropped his head again.
“Haha, well, I wish your friendship all the best,” Qiu Yu said awkwardly, then turned to Liang Zhichao with a change of tone. “Oh, by the way, since we’re all friends now, would it be possible for you to tell us how to earn credits at Phoenix Fairy High?”
“Well…”
Liang Zhichao hesitated and glanced at Duan Ming. Seeing him nod, he then revealed every detail about the credits system.
Qiu Yu and Ji Xian listened carefully and suddenly understood, but worry also crept onto their faces.
They instantly grasped the underlying secret.
The land of ghost stories really was a place they must go.

After some thought, Qiu Yu seriously addressed Duan Ming: “Thanks, but I have a suggestion. When we move, the five of us must stick together. Your glowing folding stool has quite a restraining effect on the spirits here, and the two of us won’t let you down either.”
“Sure!” Duan Ming agreed without a care in the world.
The two smiled and parted ways, returning to their seats.
Ji Xian: “Hey, those two idiots, blabbing everything out loud.”
Qiu Yu: “True, but those fools might actually be useful.”
…
“Those two fools might actually be useful,” Duan Ming said quietly, watching Qiu Yu and Ji Xian walk away.
“Just hope they don’t have ill intentions,” He Nian sneered.
Zeng Yanliang: “Definitely no good intentions.”
“Any other findings?”
Duan Ming immediately pulled out Liang Zhichao’s masterpiece and tossed it over. “You think I’m dumb? I held back some info.”
Zeng Yanliang flipped through the booklet, his eyes lighting up. “You’re impressive. I definitely didn’t choose the wrong teammates.”
“But during the two periods you were gone, I also discovered some information.”
“What is it?”
“The female ghost teacher from last class is very beautiful.”
“???” x2
“Don’t get the wrong idea,” Zeng Yanliang blushed. “This is one of my contracted spirit’s abilities. Although it’s lost its hearing, it excels in sensing.”
“The female ghost teacher’s beauty isn’t just skin deep. My contracted spirit told me she recently had intimate contact with a human. That mingling of life and death gives her a strange aura.”
He Nian blinked. “Wh... what do you mean?”
Duan Ming pondered thoughtfully.
“So you suspect this female teacher might not be so hostile towards us? You want to use her as a breakthrough?”
“Yeah. Plus, considering the information you brought back, if we need help from the school administration, she’d be the best candidate to approach.”
“Makes sense. We’ll try to get close to her tomorrow. But right now, we have more important things to handle.”
“What’s that?”
“Liang Zhichao!” Duan Ming suddenly called out.

“Coming, coming! Boss, what’s the order?”
Liang Zhichao ran over with his hands on his head, then put them down again.
Duan Ming asked, “Do all missions have to be accepted through the Student Council?”
Liang Zhichao’s eyes widened. “I say, guys, you’re not seriously playing with fire, are you? Someone’s gonna get killed.”
“Cut the nonsense. Just answer yes or no.”
“Yes. All missions, including those in the land of ghost stories. But not everyone can take them. The Student Council holds this power partly to control all students, and partly to prevent some from recklessly losing their lives.”
He Nian: “What requirements must be met to get high-credit missions?”
“That depends on your strength. For example, the ‘self-harming maniac’ mission is relatively simple. If you have the level of a malevolent spirit, you can accept it. Most students just don’t want to take the risk.”
“Malevolent spirit level? So only those two can accept missions?” He Nian glanced sourly at Qiu Yu and Ji Xian.
“Yeah, it’s just those two,” Duan Ming said indifferently, leaning back with his hands behind his head. “Liang Zhichao already said, missions in the land of ghost stories don’t split credits among more than ten people. Having a couple extra muscle guys is a bonus. If those two don’t have bad intentions, they’ll pull their weight. If they do, it’s easy to throw them under the bus.”
He Nian thought for a moment, then chuckled. “Makes sense. The eldest son is just like his father—wicked to the core, heh.”
At that moment, Liang Zhichao timidly raised his hand.
Duan Ming: “Speak.”
He said, “Big brothers, I want to remind you that the president of our Phoenix Fairy High Student Council isn’t very kind to you living people. Though rules prevent her from easily taking your lives, accepting missions won’t be so simple either.”
A moment of silence.
After a long pause, Duan Ming waved his hand. “Forget it. We’ll respond as things come. For now, we still need to earn a full seventy points academically.”
“Oh, by the way, Liang Zhichao, how’s your studying going?”
Liang Zhichao just finished fixing his middle-parted, dirty blond hair.
“Huh? What did you say?”
“Ah, never mind.”
Duan Ming continued to glance around.
He Nian: “Don’t look at me. I’ve always copied from you since childhood, Dad.”
Zeng Yanliang: “Bababa bababa~”
